  1. Hi I got my English Springer Jumping over the Ferret Count Door frame which is low but high enough to stop the ferrets running out. He knows there is ferret kibble in there and he ilkes to feed with the ferrets. Kills to birds with one stone, Gets them used to the ferret. and jumping at the same time. He can jump over a rabbit proof fence which is high enough for me. I know lurchers can jump much higher than that but its good enough for me. Regards Roger. PS if my dog knows the action is on the other side of the fence he soon finds a way.
  2. Mole catcher, No i don't trip on the net in the pic i am close to the end peg. Me personally, i pull the nets bag tight near the pin so that it is easier to place the pins together and the hold the pins together with castation rings, quiter than elastic bands they just roll off . May have picked the net up and not put the pin throught the net and just through the head and foot lines thats why ithwe net has dropped so low. Well spotted thought. I usually only do 150yds. 2 50yd in the pockets and 1 50yarder over the shoulder. the pockets could hold 75yds in 4 ply in each pocket. In nylo

  8. It will be a happy day when you have finished your first longnet. Regards Roger.
  9. Your right there is no way you are going to catch rabbit with the net at hip height. Needs to be set at knee sort of height Regards Roger If there is 4 or five guys on site i wonder now much noise you are making. Maybe the reason you have had to dig.

  12. Hello everyone in lurcher land. I am planning on getting a lurcher pup in the new year. At the moment it is only a twinkle in has daddies eye. In other works the breeder bitch has not gone into season yet. I am hope to get a boy. My current dog is a boy called Jack and am struggling to come up with a good name for the pup. So if you have any ideas let me know regards Roger.
  13. Have to say its a strong we beasty Rabbiteer you have there. Just me but i don't think you needed the salvage but thats just me. If did put a salvage like that on me nets i would be having problems on me end pins especially if it was a 50yd net. Nice to see you haven't been tight on bag though. Its a funny thing bag too little and they bounce too much and it just gets in the way. Hope everyone had a great xmas regards Roger.
  14. Rabbiteer, Have you used hemp for the salvage or something else (spun nylon) and what length did tyou make the longnet in the end, Regards Roger I have decided to keep it simple to keep weight down on the hemper and not bother with a salvage and just see hoe it goes. I think that if you have several nets and you don't use the same net all the time it will last longer. Same principle as clothing really.
  15. Does anyone have any pics of there netting jackets heres mine regards roger
  16. Nice bit of poaching mate Your not supposed to shoot game birds with airrifles, If a keeper caught you you might lose more than just your birds!!!!!!
  17. http://www.surplusandadventure.com/shop/cl...7-o-219197.html This is what i use and they are preitty good. just need to remove buttons and add pocket for pegs and long nets regards roger. ps you can see the coat with me waring it.
  18. Should have thought about this a bit more before getting ferrets!!!!. Sounds like you need to get your own hob and get him "vesectimated". Problem solved. Or take your jills to a rescue they usually have proven hobs that can take your girls out of season. Or call you local vet for contacts with ferrets who maybe able to help. or get jill jabs but not sure about them myself. Regards Roger.
  19. Ace pics, no pics of you setting the longnet then. Or is that it hanging of the fence posts? Regards Roger.
  20. Always keep a spare purse net in your pocket to replace the net that caught a rabbit. Saves time and possibly a lost rabbit. Regards Roger
  21. If you put a ferret in do the rabbits bolt 50yd away? If they do, net the whole bank, or at least put longnets between the sets in the bank. Regards Roger. PS Ferrets work better up hill. So start at the bottom of the bank and work your way to the top.
  22. Its 4ply hemp from KP&S nets is seems to be smooth to the touch not rough like stuff that i have had in the past. Nice to work with. Regards Roger.
  23. Question, so when do you use a salvage, ie nylon??
  24. Thanks for reply molecatcher. Do use traditional nets most of the time because its alot easier to carry the nets and make less noise. In my mind they seem to run out quicker as well but thats just me. Interested in this basket that you mentioned, don't understand the bit about the jig and been able to carry three baskets???? Please enlighting me. Regards Roger. PS thinking about scrapping the fibre glass poles and using hazle to cut wait and noise.
