This time of year don't actually soak them put enough water on them to keep them moist and feed them when they start to sprout,your birds will love them and they are a great feed and do them in stages not all at once or you will end up with a solid entangled bucket of sprouted oats , Regards Old Charlie.

I did a little experiment by taking a cock from a hen,the pair had been together for over a month I then let the hen lay out dated all the eggs then put them in an incubator there was 23 eggs only 8 were fertile and the last 11 she laid were all clear but only tried this once so not saying it would happen all the time,but have read in a few books that the hen would be clear in 2-3 weeks The book bullx mentioned is prob Atkinsons book and I find that very hard to believe and occasionally the other colour thrown can be thrown from generations down the line possibly before Atkinson had the strai

I would personally be cautious of the purity of any game strain laying a tinted blue egg and I have personally never seen any Spanish strain that lays one,but have seen them come henny,tasselled,muffed and rumpless the friend I mentioned earlier had some rumpless black reds but there is something about them that's just not right he has a lot of Spanish birds and they come in a large array of colours,generally even though very uniform and virtually identical in hand they don't breed true in colour and even if mating a black red cock to a partridge hen most any colour can be thrown probably due

Don't think anyone said they could see Carlisle blood in your stag,but you said you didn't think your birds would fair well in the show pens as they are broader in the chest than the show types,I was stating that these are the types of bird that a lot of people show at the Midland and most Oxford breeders would also agree with me that a lot of showmen have infused Carlisle blood into Oxfords for the show pen it is a well known fact,although I have heard that at the moment they are trying to get back to the proper type and the standard of birds is improving it was also said that one very succe

I agree with duckwing,that stag is of the type they seem to prefer at shows such as the Midland where that broader type of bird seems to do better,a lot of birds there look like they have a fair amount of Carlisle blood in them.
