  1. I don't want to be overlooking something simplistic but knowing what I do about animals/pets I've had before some hybrids and sub species can require specific needs and different lifestyles compared to the original specie.

I am quite proud of my pets as I don't have kids, so they're like my babies instead and I like to be prepared for any ill no doubt be getting- however, no books on micro ferrets and the net holds many opinions on this subject than factual notes.

  2. Dunno about micro ferrets, I work jills and other half refers to them as 'weasels' so they might be similiar lol.

I've kept ferrets for years and I've kept them in chinchilla/indoor cages and in a hutch.

If you are having male ferrets in the house you defo want them neutered yes as no matter how clean you keep them they will still have that musky smell.

My ferrets are pets as well as workers, mine have names, and if they're buggering about down a rabbit hole and i whistle on them they come out, anyway I digress.

Your ferrets will either work or not. I mean its in them instinctually. You can work your ferrets but still they can be pets, take them out and work them one day and then the next get them out in the house let them run about the couch etc.

When I lived in town I had a jill ferret and I would leave the cage open when I was able to supervise and she would gallop about the flat, she automatically took herself back into cage to go poop, very clean animals. Funniest thing is a hyper ferret galloping about laminate flooring at speed!

My other half has 2 massive entire ferrets, they don't have names, he looks after them well enough but they're not pets.

Feel free to PM me if you want a ferret related chat, I've had hobs and jills over the years and as I say kept inside and outside so might be able to help with any queries you have.

    Cheers

    Jenny

Thanks Jenny, you're a star

I already have two hobs (one pole' and one albino, brothers) and they're funny as any pet I've had before. No need for laminate flooring as these are the chuckle brothers of the ferret world. However, I keep these in a luxurious outdoor hutch and soon to castrate them, to see if it enhances attitudes and lessens the smell to eventually bring them indoors.

My main interest in the topic is for the misses. She's a typical lass: house proud and loves anything pink and fluffy/smooth; not my large, rough playing and rather smelly boys but she'd love micros if she could get some.

She wants Jill's and to keep them indoors and let them roam free, as we did with the rats but I'd like to know if they're like our usual fez's and need to get out in the field once in a while or whether they're the sort to stay insides.

I'm assuming your fella has some Polecats of sorts?

May message you soon ;) take care and thank you dearly for the comment.

  3. I know it sounds soft but I've moved from Telford back to my mums on the Wirral (same journey almost) but there places around here covered by farm land, the farmers and landowners aren't on google so it's a case of hopping on your bicycle sometimes and finding even the odd house to ask who owns the land behind them....

It will all pay off, it's hard work initially but you'll get there and I'm sure you'll be pleased you went the extra mile to get it

The forum is full of people who have done this process once or many times before, so were all here to share our experience, advice or give ideas.

Keep us posted on your progress ;)

  4. Falcon accuracy plus in my .177 hw98 . Aye that was in the field where it matters never even been to an indoor range.

I had a 95k luxus and the stock wasnt for me .. the 98 makes the difference by its adjustable butt and comb for ne. Im a weird shape lol and i shoot left handed. The adjustability on the 98 makes it fit anybody. Amazing.

Had a hw97kt both beech and synthetic the beech was a lot nicer to hold especially with the adjustable butt and ambi cheekpiece for us leftys . I do prefer a thumbhole but the 98 is very nicely fitting around the pistol grip so can still hole her consistently shot after shot.

Im out now on the permission with the hw100kt and its boringly accurate ! Should have brought a jerry springer lol.

Bottom line. Get a 98. No regrets mate amazing rifles . Even untuned it will still be pellet on pellet . Might be twangy or grindy out the box but thats an easy fix if you have a spanner screwdriver hammer pin punch and some wet&dry paper and some moly grease

Haha I think I've just become so accustomed to my break barrel springers, I feel like I'm better (and perhaps more challenging) sticking to what I know.

Underlevers seem great and I wouldn't mind a Diana sidelever but for my current and previous permissions of waking the woods, minimal movement and quick reloading is something we all appreciate, compared to the privileges of sitting on a field edge hunting rabbits.

I think the 98 is a step up from my BSA's and I feel like it's a rifle I could tune up and would make a difference too, did it cost much at SFS?

Looks a beautiful stock too, altogether a beautiful rifle. It's a shame you don't see many of these around :)

    Thank you for your help

  5. Hi White Rabbit,

I have a HW98 in .177 which I have had for a few months (not tuned) and just attached a couple of pics on the Airgunforum (thread HW98 pellets) of some 5 shot groups that I shot this morning outside in a breeze at 36 yards which you may like to look at to give you an idea what is possible for an un-tuned HW98.

Nice group there mate, what pellets are you using?

    Thanks pal.

I managed to find the thread but by the time I found your post, I couldn't get to see the pictures without signing up- not sure if it's something I want to do at the moment but I appreciate the comment and idea of groupings of an untuned 98 :)

How are you finding it untuned? Do you feel the need or see sense in tuning it?

  6. Hi Pappabear,

Sorry for the delay :) been busy and didn't notice your notification right away, apologies.

I guess if you sat on the other end of the field, there may be slight difference in sound?

I did watch a video where they put a few rifles in a sound booth and checked the decibels but that's all fine for lab testing but out in the field is where tests should be made for accusations such as these!

For sub £300 and for a first rifle, I think id be rather pleased with one of theses. Glad you've enjoyed it though and had many more kills since?
