  1. i have always wondered this? you can have a good tame ferret handled by a few strangers well then bites another. i have met some who have said that ferrets just bite them. This happened last year, I have 2 great well tamed workers and have a few mates who can handle her without a nip but one mate who handles her no differently to the others gets bitten 50% of the time. He gave up keeping them as he was convinced the ferrets had put a curse on him...LOL But this is not an isolated case and i have seen it many times. Some handlers just seem to be excepted more than others. Dogs are the sam
  2. Are you saying call them to the fist for part of a chick and then take it off them?. Perhaps i have taken it out of context ... Not the full offering so as soon as they land on the glove take it off them so they have jumped for nothing, let them break into the chick have a little meat then remove the rest and call back straight away, ive found it helps alot That bird will be running off with its kill everytime.Never ever let a bird see you take food from it chick or otherwise or you will create a 'Carrier'. It will run with it's quarry and carry it as soon as you approach it as it th

    Redtail Info

Had both male and female. Still got original female and have to say females are faster, stronger (bigger). Not in an additional burst they are not. A rabbit bolting say to about 25 yards the smaller male is quicker and then after that the female would catch it quicker. Considering a rabbit usually is in cover by then a male is mutch better It's simple physics! That may be true[ never flown a male RT] but a female will crash cover like nothing else And so will a male. All RT's do. It's in their nature. They are the tanks of the hawk world and bullit proof!
  4. i would never trust a terrier round a ferret . I have two terriers and i would not even attempt it. I am sure others have with success ....
  5. my bird catches weasels all the ruddy time around warrens they stink like hell!. That JR would have shocked the hell out of me...LOL
  6. Rats? Stoats? Weazels? Fox? I once was sitting there and a ferret popped it's head up. I thought i don't know this ferret. True story
  7. So for the first time in many years i have warmed to a Hob polecat that was found and has been showed to me. The guy got it from his mum who found it wondering around, It's been vasectomised and is just the best handled ferret stray i have come across .He was a nasty git when picked up but the guy handled him much and it’s definitely almost but gone. I have 3 gills so he would compliment them being jaffered too although i know he has been on his own for a year so i will have to keep an eye on him for a bit with others Hunting as yet has to be found out but i said i would give it 3 days bef
  8. Some play harder than others so now and again you get one that gets all hyper and bites a bit harder . I have yet to have a litter without atleast one of these in the group.Just needs a bit more patience
  9. Tomo Like i said i have not got the hump but there will be pratts out there who will take that as gospel. There were two of us and about 150 guests and i can swear one will now hold it by the tail!. It's why i am not fond of forums if it were you and me face to face we would have a laugh. I guess on a forum i will have to accept that bud . ATVB
  10. Even better but give it a good pressure wash now and again

As for the mews in the moult it's horses for courses with advantages and disadvantages to both but i don't think either is the 'Wrong' way

  13. Thought this could be useful to you http://www.spellcheck.net/
  14. I agree completely but we should still try to educate others if we can. Most give up after a few bites as lets be honest it does bloody hurt if it really goes through to the bone but perserverence is the key and if you are not tough enough then you should not be hunting at all with any animal
  15. Well it started a few years back most of the posters on the thread were one season wonders pedallers or now own a bull x , all long gone and forgotten now ,: ) ain't it malt : ) : ) Yes i agree but that is not always the case. Many learn on here and then just go off and do their own thing. It's a compliment to the member and the forum. . You probably don't think that way but give yourself praise you have helped some and the others ? Well they have packed up anyway so it makes no difference

    My Birds

Redtails are bullit proof. I have partly written a book on them which is worldwide. Don't fly them like a HH though as you will not see the best of them it's a different style all together. RT love squirrels and squirrel hunting is the most exiting hawking there is

    Help Please

Some birds literally come out at flying weight or below. You think about it, they are not moving about so metabolism is low. The mistake many make is to lower the weight. Remember 'Conditioning' is much more important than weight
  18. Oh Jeez... Just because a new member comes on a forum don't automatically think they no nothing about hunting. Computers are not my thing due to some who think in the same manner. It was an open debate of which has been around for years , In fact when i started 40 years ago. I have hunted with ferret, gun, dog and hawk. I have hunted with golden eagles in Siberia and the Ukraine and many other places. I have learnt different teqnique's but that question crops up very often Not got the hump , just need to hopefully make others understand like yourself
  19. Yes, BOP attack them from above as mine have attacked weasels and stoats. Two handed support is not always possible as i have a hawk on my other fist but i agree underhand is safer and no sudden darting at it to pick it up this can also put it into a defence mode as it was us. I also believe with youngsters is if being fed before handled they nip far less than if they had not been fed. In fact i had one once that if she was not fed she would turn and hiss at you. feed her before like say 1 hour before you would seriously not know it's the same ferret. She was extremes at either end but in
  20. Behind the head or over the top of the belly behind the front legs?
  21. I have noticed over the years that picking the ferret from the underneath the belly instead of picking up from the top causes less nipping. it was a debate a few of us had recently. What views do you guys have
  22. Believe me there is much snobbery in field sports beyond belief. The stupid thing is that everybody has variation on what is in effect the same method. I met some guys the other day who said the ferrets had come from a bloodline of this guy and that guy who mated it with this bloodline so should be good. Dropped about 6 names and i knew none of them and didn’t care. My best ever ferret came from a rescue centre that was a pet and never been down a hole in 3 years. One season later he was the fastest worker and brilliant. Treat your ferrets well and just enjoy.
  23. Keep trying. You may have to pay for permission it's just how it is nowadays. Nothing is for free.
  24. I think in general hobbs do kill down the hole more but they can be better workers than the Jills. i think you take your chances with a hob they can be damn good!
