Thanks for taking the time to do this Jack. I've pm'd you, but just in case you don't get it, yes please I'd like the phone number for the pups, I like the look of them

if w.yorkshire is not to far, there might be some pups left these are docked as i got 1 from the last litter JACK I'm in West Yorks myself. I've pm'd you - would be great if there were docked parson pups close by!

I'm after a Parson Russell pup at the moment. I want one for bushing and ratting and, truth be told, for old times sake because we used to have them when I was a kid. There's a litter avilable not far from me, but they're undocked. I've always preferred them docked and there are litters of docked pups around, just not available now and not close. Is it a big deal to have an undocked terrier for this kind of work? What are the disadvantages? Are there any advantages? (I know, by the way, that a docked pup would have to have a vets cert). Thanks for your help.

This is a really useful thread. Looks like you and i might have similar plans LG!

Of hypothermia, on a cold winter beach, drunk on tequila, looking at the sea, before I'm too decrepit to look after myself anymore. Had it planned for ages

Don't use an electric collar for this - the problem is the dog is likely to associate the zap with the dog it's pinning and may become more aggressive as a result. My dog used to be similar - he hadn't been socialised much at all and was 2 by the time I got him. It took a few months of introducing him to various breeds of dogs in a varitey of situations for him to get more steady. The other thing that helped was working on his bond with me - the more confident and trusting he got with me, the better he behaved with other dogs. It took a while for him to realise he didn't have to be responsibl

Grew up with working border collies for the cows and jack russels for ratting The a border terrier x Jack Russel x whippet (b*****d of a dog and lived for 18 bloody years!) 2 x lurchers

Oh yes, milk churns - I used to help my grandad with the milking and I remember the sound of them as he rolled them across the yard. And the sound of the milking machines too. And the corona man coming with a van full of pop bottles - we got ice cream soda. Johnny Morris on Animal Magic. Fields full of butterflies. The rag and bone man.

I love these dogs - stunning to look at. I know there's no use for them here but I wish there was.

Thanks, that's useful advice, I'll pass it on. Whaen you say NHS office, what's that exactly?!

Immigration certainly isn't the issue here. We live in an area where there are virtually no immigrant families at all - unless you count Southerners. HuntingD, if you read the original post you'll see that I said it was the second missed appointment - the last one being over two years ago. I appreciate missed appointments are a problem but we're talking about a CHILD here, who is now effectively deprived of free dental treatment. His mother has a lot to deal with and with the best will in the world things go astray. But even if she was a total piss taker, I don't believe dentists should be

The thing that infuriates me is I don't think there's anything you can do short of calling by the surgery with a great big f*****g stick with a nail in the end.......... which is tempting at the moment.

My friend, a single mother with a low income, was ill recently and as a result forgot about her 11 year old son's dental appointment. This dentist has a 'two strikes and you're out' policy for NHS patients. Because he also missed an appointment over two years ago her son has been struck off their NHS list. She begged them on the phone to reconsider, give her another chance and finally, in tears, asked them to keep HIM registered and chuck her off instead but they totally refused to budge. There's one NHS dentist over 10 miles away. You have to ring up, leave your details on an answer phone and

The rescue probably said lab/pointer rather than bull because lots of people are reluctant to rehome bull crosses.

Puppy Litters & Rescue Lurchers
Scallywag replied to cúagusgiorraí's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
This could have been an interesting thread but it turned very quickly into something else. Looking through it all again it seems to me the thread is mostly about Kate's need for the internet equivalent of a scrap in the car park. This thread is about meeting her needs, not about the original topic. If you want to scrap in the car park with her, great. If not, the worse thing you could do to her is ignore her. -
Personally, I feel sorry for the poor f*****g goat.

Well OK but I was enjoying a bit of a scrap -
Well I have to admit to admiring any animal with that degree of drive and life force!

Puppy Litters & Rescue Lurchers
Scallywag replied to cúagusgiorraí's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Well I'll have to take your word for how the rescues in the US work Kate. There are some people with similar attitudes over here but not many and none of the rescues I'm involved with give a toss about those things. In fact recently a rescue I know held back on rehoming a dog with someone because their current dog was unfit and overweight. And I KNOW it's about the breeders interpretation. That's why I said KC and breeders between them, I think it's a joint effort. And you're right, not everyone works lurchers and terriers but many do and now you're just nit picking. In fact your entire last -
Puppy Litters & Rescue Lurchers
Scallywag replied to cúagusgiorraí's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
That's right, if we stuck to purebred dogs we'd get rid of the useless junk like lurchers and the handy terrier crosses we're all working and be left with the fantastically useful chinese crested or cavalier king charles spaniel or even the show hounds and terriers who couldn't do a days work because they're no longer fit for purpose because of the ridiculous breed standards the Kennel Club and the breeders cook up between them. Much better. And whilst I agree with you that fluffy wuffy attitudes to dogs are repulsive, in my experience many rescues talk about 'adopting' rather than 'buying' a -

What a disaster. I know it's not a popular point of view but I think the more rigorous we are about preventing breeding the more danger there is of ruining dogs - you end up with highly bred pedigree dogs with defects instead of healthy and robust cross breeds. Pedigree breeders and the Kennel Club between them have managed to ruin many breeds - I was horrified to see the shape the borzois were in at crufts for instance. I don't know what the answer is but leaving the future of dogs in the hands of pedigree breeders who are happy to churn out dogs that can't breathe and who's hips give up the
