  1. want to get a pair of boots for lamping/mooching ! live in my wellies for work and want something to support better! what do people recommend
  2. Not that a dog would be smoking weed... But haha
  3. Paulus!!!! If only that wasn't true! Nail on the head haha!!!
  4. Ino I've contradicted myself but it gives you two points of view on the matter
  5. If there was a proven dog "in the line" somewhere surely another one could come good? Well you'd think...? Take human siblings for example? Ino it's not dogs but same principle ! My brother is a plank! Isn't switched on at all! Doesn't enjoy work and has no drive however I enjoy working and am driven to succeed and do well! Could this be the same with dogs?
  6. Can't add any legit advice in this question beast! Maybe one of the blokes who are more in the no may be able to help?! Basically were asking if hard working in just "in the blood" or selective dogs?
  7. Just wanted people's opinions ! Like I said at the start I'm no expert ! Just enjoy the sport! A friend is looking to buy a Hancock pup so wanted people's views/advice/opinions! Purely for my own benefit so I'm in the no!
  8. I think it comes down to the standard of dog you want... Like mentioned before! Any dog will hunt! Well so it is supposed! But it also is then to the ability of the owner/trainer of the dog to make something of it! For example someone who has years of experience in training running dogs might stand a better chance of training a dog with non working parents! But obviously that person if involved for years wouldn't fall into the trap of having a dog with out working parents
  9. That's another point you've covered arcticgun! Do they feel they are providing/producing good working dogs or Isit just a financial wonder they feel they should take for there own benefit ?! No one noes what they do it for ! However if they do make some decent working pups that is satisfying enough for then to carry or??
  10. Ha no i didn't just mean "chase shit" was looking for a more in depth view on it rather than the one you expected haha no I understand exactly what you mean by the different standards of working dog! I also see we're your coming from about the variables (speed heart strength etc etc) however I feel you get this through breeding certain dogs
  11. I do also believe it is a natural instinct for a dog to work...on the defense of those who believe you don't need working parents
  12. Well that's what I'm wondering? When taking on a pup you want it to be a good as possible... So do whatever you can to make it tht way! However certain breeders don't use working stock and still produce good dogs
  13. Ye I understand wear your coming from!! I see that working parents are the fundamentals of a pup but I wasn't sure how other people's perceptions were of dogs that didn't have "proven/working" parents !!
  14. Hi all. What's everyone's thoughts on the importance of having working parents in a pup? My thoughts are that a pup will be what you make it, however I'm no expert. Hancock pups are a prime example. You'll get good and bad in every litter I guess. Just wondering other people's thoughts.
  15. What age do you enter terriers into an earth? Ino we wait for a Lurcher to be ready ! Is there much difference in terriers? Or are they started younger or older?
  16. What would you say is the best way to do it then?
  17. Maybe I will just make a mix up of all the suggested ingredients?? Just keep leaving a hump of it there for them
  18. Really? I was expecting some sort of special horse meal or something!! I heard apple pulp?? Is this true? Or would veg be just as good
  19. Is there any way of feeding deer to a certain point for high seat shooting?? What do you use?
  20. I could learn it if I had people Togo out digging with... So if anyone is up for a nights lamping for some digging experience
  21. I've never been at a hole watching? The terrier man keep it to them selves! That's why i asked the question because I didn't no... I would of asked them if I was close enough to them to ask! This forum is for people to learn and discuss hobbies/passions. Thanks again to those that gave sensible answers. It's not like I'm asking to see your dogs smashed up or on illegal quarry, so was a completely legitimate question to aak
  22. No need for people to try slate me for trying to get more knowledge I admitted I was not a " terrier man" and said I enjoy watching the hunt nothing wrong with that!!! Fox digger that was exactly the reply I was looking for !!! Was just curious as to how you'd train a dog to do either job (baying/mixing)! Many thanks to those who gave sensible answers!!
  23. that explains why they have so many types of terrier? so a patterdale isnt a "hard" terrier as such? im not just referring to a hunt terrier i mean like an all round terrier? if ever there was one? of course a bull type terrier wouldnt be much good for baying up a fox?
  24. I couldn't tell you what terriers specific breed they were Pernod I should imagen it's a patterdale? Or maybe some sort of Russell cross, I'm not clueless to earth work just never had an Involvment, a lurcherman I am ha! I'd love to get my own terrier as I could have a fair bit of work for it , it's just i don't no enough about it to risk the dogs safety...
