They just something I saw advertised local, my collie whippet greyhound was pts before Christmas he was 15 yo and im just looking for new member of the pack but like you said I'm going to need something fast due to the rabbits being hedge rows.....would you say straight whippet is best bet then or beddy whippet?
  2. Hi lads anyone ever worked 1 of these want a bushing dog got a cocker but need something to catch the rabbits only be used for mouching its all hedge row around here an rabbits only every run from 1 hedge to another

  5. I been training my cocker about a year now an my trainer gave me a acme gundog whistle not a silent whistle but as worked well for my dog but im sure more experienced people on here will point you in right direction atb with your new puppy
  6. Can't beat bringing on a pup my cocker is 12 months in may an I just brought another pup so got my hands full but they worth it.
  7. Thanks she knows what stop whistle means but ignore it its not every time she does it but when she does she won't come back an normally end up going to get her from the people she ran of too

I'm new to gun dogs and got my working cocker at 7 weeks an took her to a trainer at 12 weeks were he would show my what to teach her an I would go home an train her before moving on to next lesson this was all going well until the last few months first she stopped listening to the whistle so she stayed with him for two weeks an came back brilliant but now started seeing strangers an running off so they fuss her some time she just runs to them other time she stay by me an listen to what she told any one else had same problem with there gundog is it just her age ?? All help greatly received
  9. I also feed my working cocker puppy on raw mince but I do mix it with biscuits
  10. well been out with my terrier this morning and whistled her instead of calling her loads better so fingers crossed might be onto something here knocked up a few rabbits an pheasant very pleased with her today just hope it wasn't a one off hahaha
  11. yeah its like that round here as well they never bolt across the field always just close to hedge row
  12. because my terrier an an spaniel don't catch so i want some thing that will catch the rabbit not just chase it

  14. i tried giving her alot of praise when she comes back but most the time she won't come no were near me she just wants to keep hunting she is about 2 years olds so i'm starting to wounder if she is ever going to come good an i no want ya mean about her going off getting herself an me into trouble starting to think she might make better pet then working dog ??
  15. just wounder what people think of this breeding of lurcher for a bit of bushing seen some pup advertised i'm thinking of getting but the dog will need to buh with my terrier an spaniel what breeding do people think is the best????

  18. i'm new to terriers only ever ad lurchers i used for lamping but i have brought a border lakeland i was tols was a good bushing dog an she is the only problem is some times she will get a sent get very xcited an run off an will only come back if she feel like it is this down to bad training or just a trait of the terier ??
  19. been working lurchers for a long time but since my last lurcher died last year at the age of 131/2 years i got a little border lakeland an have started bushing with her she now got used to me so i got a lurcher pup few days back is there any more women on here that love hunting
