  1. Need advice on trail cameras guys What is preferred make, cost, durability etc. Thanks.
  2. Good point NP. In theory a live catch mole trap would work, but as you say, unless you release it quite quickly it will die, but if the trap is loaded with a handful of worms may keep it alive til morning!! The same technology is used for rodent monitoring Are they humane, these live catch traps? unless your sitting by the trap waiting for it to go off then the mole will probably die, what happens if it rains? ( we should all know that moles move to higher ground when the rain starts ) the mole will drown in the trap. Yes the traps would work but not ideal eh.
  3. Have not posted for a long time now, but there is a probing interest within the animal bloody rights group to out right ban the snaring of animals and I state within Wales though not as yet in England, how do we as a collective argue against this? I can understand the argument that traps are more use than snares, but we have to invoke the use of snares when dealing with foxes in certain predicaments, or am I mistaken, please somebody tell me whether I am right or wrong, I do not want to look as though I am misguided but the latest snares do not kill but restrain the animal which is a good thi
  4. Need to know what the latest laws are regarding the use of these traps, have they been updated in any form and do you need to attach info labels on the traps. cheers.
  5. Hi Phil, any photos of the bags? they sound quite interesting.
  6. Looking for a good quality mole bag { rucksack } to carry my traps, preferably a canvas bag, anyone know of any outlets.
  7. Just like to wish all a happy new year and good trapping in 2014, lets hope its a good year for the moles eh
  8. why do you "professional" mole catchers get mad when other people catch moles all I ever see you do on here is cry when others do it, is there a problem he does it for beer money ? I do domestic and commercial grounds maintenance for a living does it bother me that ricky next door book 1 goes out after work does a garden or two for money at weekend, not one bit. they aint your fukin moles like they aint my fukin gardens . The problem is bud ! you beer money boys can undercut us professionals ( who ARE professionaly qualified and fully insured which costs a lot of money and time to compl
  9. Totally agree with your post Heyford, hard enough working professionaly as it is without being undercut by beer money boys.
  10. Definately not short of moles, this is something that I saw on a different website, personally I totally disagree with it!
  11. This is an interesting thought, do you think that there should be a ` close season ` as regards to moles? Do you think that there are sufficient numbers of moles that would`nt warrant a ` close season `? Would a ` close season ` aid recovery of numbers? Do you think it would be financial suicide for the humble mole catcher? Would it be impossible due to whom we catch for? I think that this warrants a few thoughts eh?
  12. Really interested in this! if you could divulge a bit eh!
  13. Do you use a quad Matt? Couldn't manage the acreage I do without the bike. Really nice today to get up some speed and cool down. To be honest Moxy, I am. My fingers are aching, my knees are aching, and I've started to make funny noises when I get up. Looking on the bright side, I've still got two farms that I haven't touched yet this year, and 2 farms to do follow up visits, so it isn't looking too bad and as long as we don't have a drought, I reckon I'll be pretty much flat out until the end of June this year. What happens then is up to our stripey friends wh
  14. I have been using these traps for about 3 years now along with the duffus traps, as a professional mole catcher i have to say that i have had great success with this trap, but like any other tool of the trade it is only used in certain situations. My main tool is the duffus along with the Talpex, these 2 traps are the main catch traps in my armoury. Problems with the trapline are; 1. Unless you pin the trap down the mole will ( if not caught properly ) drag the trap back through the tunnel. 2. The spring can sometimes stretch and weaken therefore not getting a clean kill. 3. Unless you k
  15. I have never met a farmer willing to pay £16 per mole, hundreds of thousands! you do the maths.
  16. Wow! thats one hell of a blog, very interesting read, it is very worrying reading about the `overspill` affecting other animals especially deer.
  17. That is probably the only way forward with the continuation of the trials to achieve a positive end result.
  18. Totally agree with your point of view E.T. There is a nagging thought in the back of my head as to why the governing body has not yet made a defining result as to what is responsible to the spread of TB.
  19. Did`nt mention trapping them, just a bit of advice bud.
  20. Been trapping moles on a local farm and the gamekeeper has been on to me about the problem he is having with Polecats. It seems there has been a bit of an explosion in their numbers and they are being a bit of a problem with the birds on the local shoot, any thoughts? .
  21. we now have a massive problem with badgers !!!!!!!!!!!!!! you should read this weeks farmers guardian and be horrified by the amount of cattle culled because of bovine TB all down to fecking brocks Bovine TB has been ' endemic ' in the national herd, for a long time now, and im certainly not fully convinced at this stage, its all down to badgers.......... Google the thornbury experiment, the culled the badgers in that area, all of them! TB dropped to zero for around 10 years, then over time infected badgers returned and so did TB. No coincidence there! The only reason badgers
  22. I like it Matt, you probably put up with a lot of crap eh?
  23. I know this is a topical subject but I have been having a massive problem with pigs on the golf courses that I deal with ie. digging up the courses looking for the shafer grubs. the problem that I have is that I can deal with the moles but the pigs are making one hell of a mess. Don`t you think that there is a time when enough is enough and the time has come when the problem of the of the Badger has to be dealt with?. is there to much pussy footing around where Badgers are concerned? foot and mouth! do we need that again? Our jobs would be on the line if this nasty disease would ever s
