  1. Could be a number of reasons the ferret is dealing with a rabbit which has its arse to ferret, when another rabbit decides to leave the burrow with caution as its either seen the net or felt it,has heard or seen you or the dog,has been ferreted before and got away from net doing same thing.so could be any reason really.
  2. There's a sugar solution you can buy in the pharmacy cant think of the name at the minute could be glucose you only need a small amount i found it out as an old fella i know used to use it for his birds. Will find out dose and name for sure when i get it out of shed tomorrow will be good for when the weathers icy cold.
  3. Ive only used long nets a few times preferring to purse net and use dogs when ferreting no matter what the situation and if one makes it by the dogs then fare play to it.I bought 3 x 25yd long nets years ago and put poles on myself to have quick set.I'm thinking of buying 2 x100yd long nets quick set now my question is in peoples opinion on the best baskets out there as ive seen a few and not having used a basket before of my own i want to hear from them who have used them.Ive seen the basket Brian brinded sells in his video and compared to other net companies baskets it look bigger esp the pa
  4. Thanks a lot people for all the replies some good and bad points for both batteries the lead heavier, cheaper and alright lamp time, then lithium good power indicator, light weight and good lamp time. With my old lead battery to keep it at its best the manufacturers recommend you charge after every time its used weather you had it on for 4hours or 1hour.The only lithium battery ive every had is been in my mobile phone and the manufacturers say with the phone lithium battery to keep battery life length to use all the power from battery before you charge it.Would the lithium battery for the lamp be
  5. I do the same as you twice a week minamin i let the out in yard to run about and exercise, but i get out at least once a week every week ferreting.I rotate which ones go out ferreting every week.I'm going to build a big court in shed during the summer for them just for exercising on days when i cant let them out or if its pissing rain as i dont like leaving in yard on their own for any length of time as theres always one who climbs out over the 9ft wall if im not watching.
  6. Thats some bag lads well done, nice avatar wi11ow
  7. My 12v 18a lead battery is on its way out and before i replace it i want to find out peoples opinions about lead batteries or lithium batteries which is better/lasts longer before it needs a charge.I know the lithium is lighter to carry about, but if thats all it has on the lead battery then ill stick to lead.So if anybody with experiance of both types of battery could let my know their views on them i would be grateful Thanks
  8. I use a sleeping box inside the main hutch with shavings for inside main hutch. For bottom of sleeping box shavings as well with barley straw on top and have never had any trouble with pests in straw.Have housed all my ferrets this way for years breeding them in same type of bedding.Ferrets can sneeze some times if they breath in dust like any other animal, you have to change the bedding before it breaks down into dust and dont just through new barley straw in on top of the old stuff replace it each time. The main thing to watch for with straw is that it doesent get wet or damp as it will go moul
  9. Thats a shame about the ferrets if it was me id do as your doing with the traps, but i would also look about with my dogs for them.I would let the neighbours know too if you have some close by and if theres local kids nearby tell them theres a reward(as a working ferret is worth it) if they find them as kids when a few quids involved can spend hours/most the day looking another thing kids are good for is spreading the word every where theres ferrets missing and who owns them.I'm sure your grey parrots will be fine from the ferrets as any wire used to keep parrots in can keep a ferret out unles
  10. I used to think the same thing t-bone about the knob on the mk3 as i never used to use the sound option on my mk3 at first either.I do use it now tho on an occasion when im working burrows that are so old they have all joined into one big one and they go the length of a one or two acre field along the hedgerow, when you've ferrets down and you cant locate one you can just walk along the hedge at speed with the sound knob on full with locator in your hand hanging by your side not having to bend over looking at the led display which saves your neck/back aching from bending and looking at lights
  11. Can not see any picture on your post, forget this post as soon as i posted it i could see your picture and other members replies to post
  12. The land close to me has been hit with myxomatosis the last 3 years which means the rabbits are very tin on the ground so will have to leave for a few more seasons or maybe more for them to return in enough numbers so that i can hunt again in these places. The first year there was so many dead rabbits lying about the foxs had stopped eating/gathering them up to later eat that they were left rotting in the fields(unless i came across one alive with the decease that i gave to the ferrets or dogs to have). It has just meant i have had to travel further a field to get my rabbits and im glad i did tr
  13. Thanks for replies lads and have a good chrimbo and great new year
  14. Ive heard a few other lads saying they've tried the MK3 and are sticking with the MK1(knocker box),But if i can get my MK3 fixed right and it says working id be chuffed. Thanks
  15. Thats good to know i can get it fixed cheap enough.Your friend had his less than a year and they still charged him 30/35 i wonder would mine cost more as its well out of guarantee even if its the same type of fault.I take it was Deben he sent it to ,to get it fixed? nice one for reply there pretty good on their repairs as well, touch wood my one has,nt needed to go back(ive said it now) but my mates one did after about a year he sent it back and deben found a pinched wire that had been done in manufacturing and they could my mate had tampered with it in anyway so re-soldered a new wire
  16. Totally agree. Went to Morrisons yesterday (Teachers whisky £11) got the max 6 per customer and going again later to get the other 6 bottles neccessary plus I need 1 bottle of decent port and a bottle of JD (I know this farmer drinks it as I work with his daughter in law) so a total spend of about £150 gives me a years sport - Bargain of the century. Some smaller/less productive places just get a Merry Christmas though Cheers, D. I do nearly the same the farmers with good land and plenty to hunt get bottle whiskey and rolls of wire when i get it.The ones with say only small holding
  17. Did you have collar on ferret and if so what distance was it down when you lost it?Also was there any other tracks around burrow badger, fox etc.?If it was me i would fill in all the holes say bar 2 then place a live catch mink trap/rabbit trap at the two entrances with some rabbit liver etc. and see if you catch anything.

  19. I wouldn't mind so much about miss reading as i use TBAR too to find tunnel, but if mines saying im at 4 when i now its at 1and half foot really that means i can only search to 6ft when i should have 16ft thats why i was thinking of going back to MK1 8ft for time been thanks for reply.
  20. Ive had the same reading with batteries straight from pack in good dates thanks for feed back
  21. Ye make your own mines made from inch thick marine ply i got from the skips on building sites, wire on fronts is half inch x half inch square with 4mm thick wire the stuff used as anti vandal screens over windows on council offices etc. most good pigeon suppliers sell it about 40euro a big sheet 5ftx10ft.I painted all the wood inside and out with creso(make sure inside is well dry before putting ferrets in) and i got election posters of the lampposts the 5m thick plastic ones(as lets face it thats all there good for) and used over the ply for floor cleans out a treat, roof if aluminium sheeting.
