Great news mate, hopefully she will pull through. You deserve a big pat on the back for the dedication and caring you have shown to her, a few people could learn a thing or 2 from this. Atb

Anybody recommend a vet for getting my hobs castrated in the teesside area. There is a canny few vets about but after one that has a record with ferrets, as many just seem to be your average cats, dogs etc. Have phoned a couple who have said they do treat ferrets and a few who say they don't, but obviously would prefer if somebody has a recommendation. Cheers Stretch

Cheers mate, been a canny few earlier mornings and late nights trying to find him

Yeah definately mine, was missing the hair at the top of his tail due to getting his winter coat when he went missing and it was cear he had starting getting the hair back and also his overall coat is very scraggy and plus the only one found in my area

Got him back this afternoon, he had been given into the local RSPCA centre on saturday/sunday and apart from a few patches of mud covered fur and some good stories he is perfectly fine. Thanks to everyone for their messages of advice and best wishes. Absolutely buzzing lol

Update...........Stuck an ad in the paper and didn't expect much tbh, but received a phone call around 3pm today, they said the ferret was in their garden on Monday night and tried to get at the 2 rabbits in the cage. They said they hadn't seen him since but where keeping an eye out for him. Then around 8.30pm tonight i received another call, a women had been into the local shop and mentioned to the assistant that she had found a ferret in her garden and had taken it in to a local vets. This assistant had then seen the ad in the paper and had gotten in touch with us, but the women never mentio

Ok cheers lads, thought it would just be condensation like. Will drill a few holes in the nest box front and side. Will limit the amount of time the tarp is on, but at the min with this weather its a bit hard, otherwise all the bedding and shavings just get soaked

Just checked my ferrets sleeping box and there is abit of water on the roof and the sides. Have recently re-felted the roof due to this being a problem a few weeks ago and thought i had solved the problem. The felt runs around both the top, back and sides and has no cracks for the water to get in. What i think it is, is the heat from the ferrets, condensing at the top of the cage and hence the water. The cage gets covered with a piece of taurpaulin when its chucking it down with rain and currently there is a layer of wood shavings and mixed t-shirts and shredded paper as bedding. So, any ideas

Just been out with the lamp to see if i could see anything, nothing happening. Just hope that with the weather we are having up here raining, wet, cold etc that he is just tucked up somewhere and if he does move then i'm hoping somebody will spot him. The only real concern i have, is that were he got out of the garden, if he went left he is into a hedge line and then fields that are frequented by foxes and dog walkers, so lets hope he went the opposite way.

Not sure if any of them have traps, but will have a ring around when ive finished work. Its just bloody typical that i am at work and there is nobody at home till 4ish. Going to pop around a few neighbours houses and have a look if its there.

Aye will do mate.

I haven't give up yet mate. Going to ring around the vets/pet shops etc in the area and leave a number in case anyone does find him. I'm an optimistic person and although their is alot of fields/woodland near me, there isnt a vast amount of food, so hopefully he will either come back or go to somebody elses house. Fingers crossed as he seemed to have alot of potential and seemed very willing once into the swing of things.

Opened the back door this morning around 6am to find 2 ferrets running around the garden, after a quick chase i put them in the cage, only to find my oldest hob had vanished. Fecking gutted, only had him a few weeks and he was doing well on the few occasions we had been out. Have left another hutch open with food in it, in the hope he will come back, but think its the last time ive seen him, as our house is side on too 4 farmers fields and a big beck running alongside. Feel guilty and gutted at the same time and im stuck at work thinking about it has happened.

For me its more about their maturity rather than their age, but never have worked them before 5/6 months. I like to let them be kits and then start them working. If they are mature when they reach 5/6 months i will take them out with my older hob and try them out, if not i will leave them until the end of the season or wait till the season after.

Bedding wise shavings on the bottom, a mixture of fleece blankets, t-shirts, old jumpers etc and shredded paper for there sleeping box. Also have a piece of gazebo sheeting that i pull down when its raining/windy, has the added bonus of being the window part so i can see into the hutch aswell. The main thing for me is having spare water bottles, to change over in case the others freeze up.

Ferret1988 PM Yeah i've seen it in B&Q think its about 60-70 quid for 25mtr of the 100mm. Thats the last resort for now, but looking the most likely unfortunately. Might have abit of a drive around to see if there is any building/road works going on. Kranky

Looking to buy some drainage pipe for my new run, after a few knock backs from building sites i have visited, to see if they had any spare. Checking the prices online they seem to vary quite abit. Anybody know where i could get some for a modest price and what size diameter would people recommend, as i was looking at getting some 100mm, but having got 3 hobs, 2 of which look like the might be big hobs, im thinking of getting 150/160mm. Any suggests would be great. Atb Stretch

Mine are fed exclusively on meat, that's how they were brought up so just carried it on. Chicken thighs/drumsticks/wings/carcasses, mince, rabbit, pigeon, crows, magpies, squirrel, liver etc with the odd egg thrown in about once a week. Good tip for people who feed meat/flesh is too keep an eye on the 'reduced priced' section in the supermarkets, for the stuff going out of date or with damaged packaging. Had some good bargains from there including a few whole raw chickens, that i jointed and then froze for use later.

I normally start them around 6/7 months, although that's not gospel as some are smaller and some bigger, so this would also affect the decision. You have to be the judge of that and if your confident of sending your ferret out. Don't forget they have to be big and strong to not only bolt the rabbits, but to not get hurt or discouraged as well. Sometimes i don't work kits until the next year, just depends on the circumstances.

The best thing i ever done was stick a hammock in the run and hutch. There always in it, made it out of an old pillow case/bedsheet and knotted at both ends

I've never seen or heard of a furball in a ferret or ferret laxatives for that matter. I would go to the vets with her mate personally. But i'm sure somebody with more experience will be along shortly and give you some good advice. atb

aye mate its better to have an need an not have an need as they say lol, im sure i payed 20 quid ot thereabout for mine off vet an that was a good few years ago now, i still got a good 1/3rd of the bottle left aswell, ye hardly waste any of it when spraying onto goves 1st, there will come a time when ye get a spot that is infested with fleas/ticks fookers make my skin crawl lol Yeah i payed about 20 odd quid for the one i have, under the sink waiting to be used. Seen plenty on the rabbits we have had in the past, you could see them all on the sides of the plastic bag we put them in, bu

Aye thats true, we go out maybe 1/2 times a week during the season, not catching/shooting huge amounts, but if we do get a fair few we normally skin 1/2 and leave the skin on the rest. Never had a problem with fleas or ticks, coming into my 3rd season(touch wood) and have always frozen the rabbits before feeding. There will probably be a time when i will have to use the spray and have got a bottle just incase, but at the minute what we do seem to do works for us
