I have the bottom edge of the welded mesh stapled (with netting staples) to the wooden frame and then sunk into the concreted floor. They will need a ferret sized angle grinder to get out of there. <famous last words> /Mad

I'm a ferret newbie as well. And after reading loads of books and reading loads of posts on here, I am right at the bottom of a very steep learning curve! I have four of them in here: /Mad

Best Way to keep the water bottle attached to the cage?
Madcowz replied to a topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
We have just got a salt lick as well after noticing that the ferts went mental when I went in with very sweaty hands and arms. Our neighbour muttered something about salt rocks for the calves, jumped on his quad bike and was back in 10 minutes with two large rocks containing salt that they use for the cows. These aren't the white blocks you see but actual stone with salt in it. /Mad -
Best Way to keep the water bottle attached to the cage?

We use springs that we bought at the Ardingly Smallholders fair, they are designed to fit round bottles and have split rings at either end to attach to the wires. So much sturdier than the wire clips that come with the bottles and you don't have to take them off to change the water. Have tried to find a link on google/fleabay but no luck yet. /Mad -
I'm a ferreting newbie having only had them for 10 days now, but I try to feed them raw if not all the time, then at least as much as possible. In fact, I went out with the gun last night as the sun started to slowly sink in the beautiful blue sky after a wonderful hot Sunday and thought to myself, how fantastic is this Here I am, enjoying the countryside, getting fit and, at 16p a cartridge, feeding my ferts for next to nothing. Several bangs later and the safe scurrying of little white tails, and this quiet contemplation and serene peace with the world was soon spolit by the fact tha

They are lovely. Stubby's a nice bloke and these have gone to a very good home. /Mad

This is bad news indeed, we are very close to Guildford and our house and the others in our close all belong to the local estate/farm. And yes, they have 3 big herds of dairy cattle. If this goes the same way as last time, 3 - 4 people out of the 8 houses will probably be out of a job. Interesting note: One of the other neighbours sons works in Defra and I asked him last week how work was, and he said very busy as they were just about to start a practice foot and mouth outbreak scenario, but this time be 2 weeks into the outbreak. Mad

Hi, might want to post this in the ferret section. Mine go mental for shoelaces, unfortunately while still on my shoes on my feet. /mad

Welcome to THL. Watch out there are some right nutters on here... /Mad

I am only three inchs tall Don't you find your ferts tend to treat you as prey? /Mad

Yeah, sorry I should have said. It's for ferrets. /Mad

Hi all, I know Ebay is prob the easiest way to get one, but I would much rather give my cash to someone on this forum than some faceless seller on Ebay. So, if anyone has a Mk1 15ft collar they don't need then I have a good home for it. thanks for looking, /Mad

Perhaps would have been better to PM your phone number to him. Now anyone can call you, and there are some right nutters on this forum /Mad

Hypnosis! I think they were just very tired and all played out. They are young kits so are pretty good sleepers. My wife has now worked out that I must be related to ferrets with my 'sleep disorder' that I suffer from. Although she just calls it laziness. /Mad

I was defrosting one of their frozen 'ready meals' yesterday in time to put it into the court in the evening when it disappeared from the outhouse Needless to say, a bit of searching turned up a partially eaten meal and two happy cats with their tummies filled with rabbit. Damn them! /Mad

Some more pics of the ferts. Here they are asleep on my lap (note to self, must buy new trousers) and mucking about in their new dirt box! and chilling out in their migraine inducing coloured hammock /mad

Excellent, Can now show this to the kits so they can see their mum on television! /Mad
-
@Magwitch, are you producing these fantastic images yourself (inc your avatar) as there are some damn good Photoshop techniques there. /Mad

Good point there, but they were in a nice large Court before as Stubby has converted an old Anderson Shelter with an outside run (although the kits didn't use this) so I don't think it is a vast increase in space that is causing this. They do have a nesting box but that is on the 'first floor' accessed via two ramps and they are yet to climb up there, so are spending their time in a hammock just now. When they are older and able to explore higher up, they have a whole new world for them :-) I'm not overly worried as they are young and have yet to spend a week in their new home, but am

Well, every corner has a tray in it now and they do use the trays (sometimes), but now they have started to go right next to their food and water dish which are next to their bed. One of them has backed up right up against the food dish and parked a little black slug right there! Oh well, if it takes patience, I have plenty. I work with computers and have 3 kids, both of which require plenty of patience thanks for your input guys. /Mad

Would appreciate that as well, we are training ours by saying no and blowing on their noses, sometimes we push the finger in to their mouth further which they don't like. But the more ideas/techniques the better. Do you guys let your ferrets mouth your hands? That is what ours are doing just now. Sometimes they just mouth, other times they do, not bite, but nip. We are discouraging all of it Looking forward to the War dance, have seen it befor on other ferrets but ours are yet to do it. /Mad

Hi, babies have settled in fine, have eaten rabbit & squirrel, and part of an egg we dropped while collecting from the chooks (they loved the eggs, and how great is it to be able to shoot squirrels and not waste them!). They have been visiting and even had a trip to the garden centre. No we are not mad people who take our animals everywhere, but it was a hot day and I didn't want to leave them in the car. They are getting loads of attention, even from er indoors who originally wasn't keen on having them and said she 'would stamp on their stinky little biting heads' (that's jus

f**k me... your feeding them tyrannosaurus rex! D.S. will be impressed /Mad

Jeez, some people are just either rude or stupid or both. On the subject of forgetting kids, we recently all got in the car, started the engine and just about to pull away when we realised we had left one of our three kids locked in the house. /mad

Glad you like her, we thought she looked lovely, and yes they look tiny in the court. so ickley small and cute (but with sharp teeth) Stubby is getting confused, the nets were for me and I was meant to pick them up when I collected. But we both forgot. /Mad
