  1. Nice looking box. I've had my terriers get hold of wire like that and pull it loose. Only now use expanded metal that has smaller openings and is a lot stronger and bolt it through with a fender washer.. Also now always slope the bolts so that if a dog is working the door, the bolt always tries to fall closed. A hasp with a clip also works reliably. Just never want dogs getting loose. Again, very nice looking piece of work.
  2. Thank you. It was fun getting in the time machine and finding them. Bernie, the first one is now in his dotage. Tom, the second one with the ticking is getting there. Liberator the fit bitch died young of cancer in her tubinates. She produced some pretty good stuff before leaving us though. No pictures of them that I can show here though if you get my drift.
  3. She never was. Just an incredible naturally fit bitch. RIP Liberator.
  4. Not many I know hunt so nice and neat as that. I'm going out to the workshop right now and painting all my shovels. I'll not be shown up that easily.
  5. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
  6. MOST Russells will bay and mix when they get the chance. They're more opportunistic biters and fighters in the earth than MOST patts. But like I said, there's a world of dogs out there and they are all individuals. You might get one that believes his first hold is his best hold. It sure worked for old Skinny boy. But as I've said he's the only Russell I've personally owned that was reliably that way from early on. He's hunting in the sky now, darn it. Right now my best terrier is a six year old bitch. She started out baying everything. Nothing ever ran over her but she didn't scrap
  7. Then you don't want the Russell. I've had exactly one that was what I would call a reliable hold fast type.
  8. Her head puts me in mind of a bitch I used to have. Nice looking coat too. Best of luck with her.
  9. Depends 100% on the dog. In GENERAL you'll find most Russells to not be quite so driven to smash and grab as most patts. But there's so much variation out there as to make the generalization useless. Me? I keep Russells, the good ones have always been able to do what I want done. That said I hunt with several folks who keep colored terriers and they get it done too, just in maybe a little different style. It all comes down to what you want and what the dog you get actually does.
  10. There no use when you have to get about on this Terrain ,Someone keen" Soft "in the head is best Spritely = F****D for a few days  Soft in the head. That description fits me, or I'd find something to do that pays better. Who said ANYTHING about Pay  for the Fun & the Joy of the Hunt and maybe a wee chance of a Dig !! The last time I went out we: 1. Walked between a wet soybean field and a ditch and got soaked to the armpits within five minutes of leaving the truck. 2. Walked in a cane brake with cane 15' tall growing on about 6" centers. 3. D
