That went down like lead balloon!
Just be clear, I'm not after a pistol. I would if it was legal but it ain't.
I would however consider a 24" barrelled shotgun minus stock, pistol gripped if legal. It looks as though a non auto or pump action has no overall length requirements held on a shotgun cert.
Is that how others understand the law?
Just after factual help, not wanting to cause trouble.
Yes SD, so long as it’s not semi auto or pump action and the barrel is 24 inches or more, regardless of overall length it remains section 2. If the barrel is less than 24 inches but not less than 12 inches it is section 1 but the overall length must still remain 24 inches or more. Nothing less than 24 inches overall or it will be section 5.

Good shooting bn, how do get on with the eye relief on the pard 007 ?I’ve used one on a browning t bolt and couldn’t shoot free standing as I couldn’t get the rifle butt into my shoulder for a steady hold. Was ok off the bonnet/bipod though

there made by Kent Cartridge
I know the shot size seems a bit over kill but I recon it'll balance out about the same energy as 5/6 lead at same distance!
them eco wad have got to be some kind of pva based compound and I know from years of fishing and using pva stuff that it turns to shit when it gets damp..
how will the cartridges hold up to getting damp when there in you bag or pockets and getting put away again
That’s something to consider, after looking at the video that longshanx put on. It makes you wonder how long the cartridges can be kept and still retain the integrity to protect your barrel? Those wads turned to mosh in a few hours.

Who makes the SilverSteel Si ?

Anyway, has anybody actually used any of these bleddy things, do they actually exist? If so, are they any good performance wise?

there was one in my local shop and a lad drove from Wales to Scarborough to get it.. that would of been a coupe of months back!
Must’ve been keen. Personally I wouldn’t swap my anschutz for one in a million years. Each to their own though.

Not many 457 in the country at the moment if any . I am after one in .17 or.22 so phoned around not one in stock . So I phoned the importer the answer I had ,won’t see them until January or February
That’s odd. I’ve already seen one in the countryman derby. Sold now though. That was a while ago too...

The spread is the variation between the highest and lowest velocity in a string of shots. So the velocity figure is an average from that barrel and of an unknown number of shots.
As the barrel shortens the variation gets less in this example (not a rule, it can go the other way).
If that is a common trend for the Hornady mouse rimfire it could be argued the shorter barrels are more efficient. It would need more data to confirm that assumption.
Could be win win on that then SD, confined spaces and mouse shooting generally go hand in hand

So as a newby, in real life terms what do they actually mean?
It means that any loss in velocity from a shorter barrel won’t be noticeable. Get whatever length barrel suits your needs best. Handle a few and see what you feel most comfortable with. Remember that a moderator will add more length though.

If you want to shoot from a vehicle go for the 16.5 without a doubt. Two of my friends have 16.5 t bolts and both are deadly accurate. I had my hmr cut down from 22.5 inch to 15 inch, best thing I did with it. Lost 70 FPS at the muzzle, that’s not hardly worth a mention, as it handles so much better now. Just as accurate as before but much nicer to handle. No noticeable loss in performance at all.

Excellent. The old hornet often overlooked, still floats my boat ( what ever that means). .
What bullet?
The .22 hornet is a nice round, I use Remington or Hornady 35 grain ballistic tip, very accurate. For me it does everything the mouse gun does and a lot more.

Fiocchi do a 3" #7&1/2, they seem good with a good pellet count .
I like fiocchi, I’ll pick some up from moorhall stores next time I’m in Bakewell.

Nice shooting SD. I’ve recently picked up a sbs fourten, chokes marked half and three quarter. Done a bit of pattern testing and the eley extralongs threw a decent pattern at 22 and 28 yards (paces) respectively. They were #6 shot. I’m going to pick some more of these up in #7 shot, give them a try and see how they compare pattern wise. Haven’t had much time for a play with it yet and the squirrels are everywhere at the moment round here. I agree about the squirrels needing a hard hitting cartridge in fourten, some of the 2:1/2 inch loads I’ve used struggle to drop them cleanly so I’m sticking with the three inch magnums for the squirrels ?.
Old HW77 full length .177.
