    Very nice person as well

a few years back he said to me  I earn 160 a day but that day ended up 10. 12, or 14 hour day and he could go and earn more money with less hours going back to electrics again

No wonder he’s packing it in. Shame though?

Yes mine and Trish's Xmas present arrived a short while ago ...................................................... really exciting.........NOT. Our new central heating boiler is here ready for installation tomorrow so no chrissie pressies for us this year but at least we will have a nice new effecient boiler to keep us warm this Christmas instead of our aging old boiler.

Oh well such is life and who wants a pard 008 anyway ?

    Phil

Enjoy your new boiler Phil. As for who wants a pard 008, after trying my pals out on his t bolt...........I DO?

With using subs in 22lr  which most do and slugs in FAC air  it’s on par with each other and I would say groups at 100 yards would tighter with FAC air

In reply to that, I’ve head shot rabbits out to 180 yards lasered with .22 subs. Purely for pest control, they could be taken with body shots further out than that. Can fac air achieve this? I doubt that they would carry the energy, but then I haven’t had the opportunity to try these slugs. The thing is though, at 22 grains that’s half the weight and less than half the muzzle energy of a .22 sub, I can’t see how they would perform favourably. As for shooting into trees, there’s cb longs etc at 29 grains and 35 ish ft lbs easily available. I keep an open mind and I know how useful fac air is, but as for them being superior to rimfire I reserve judgement.

The re-chargeable batteries are still holding up. I thought that I had caught the bait thief........

A mulot. Last night I put a smaller trap out and caught it. But after watching the recordings it seems like there were two visitors........

I got a rat running about all over the traps. This is next to my garage door that leads into the basement. I know from bitter experience that these barstewards can get through the slight gap between the door and wall and in that part of the basement are four large plastic boxes with fishing bait and bird seed in them. There is no footage of it going into the cage trap so I've swapped the live catch cage for a home made Mk. IV Welcome Pack.

    Fingers crossed.

Got to say that I am impressed with the trail-cam that Greyman recommended.

    MkIV welcome pack, lol?

I do believe that in many cases, fac air with or without slugs will do a great deal towards equaling the effect in the field on rabbits and similar but it is the flexibility of load in a .22lr that gives the advantage. Wind resistance is something we will learn about as time goes buy and I have .25 slugs to try.

Everyone have there opinions and he is not the first person to say it

after shooting and testing these  slugs  , I have come to a conclusion myself about 22lr nobody else has forced me into my thoughts

True enough about opinions vm. Although how these slugs can outperform a .22 bullet I don’t know? Shot from a 40ft lb air rifle they’re never going to match the energy at any range, a .22 subsonic bullet will retain 70-80ft lbs at 100 yards. The comments from your gun shop puzzle me in that respect, not quite sure what he means by that statement. However, I am intrigued and will look forward to finding out for myself. Just need the crown now...........and some slugs?

But H&N an slugs £11 for 200 and these work I can tell you that and a lot cheaper than .22lr ammo . I would imagine JSB slugs will be about the same price as H&N , when they come out .

we had a bit of wind last night and the slugs hitting the mark at 100 yards

When they’re available I’ll buy some anyway, just to try them out, but I can get VERY accurate.22 rimfire ammunition for under £10/100 that may be cheaper than the FX hybrid slugs? What I need now though is an fac crown, some slugs and some time to play. It would be interesting to compare fac air using slugs and .22 rf side by side.

  8. Any British prices for these slugs available? Just found pyramidair price $14:99 /100 slugs. As these type of things usually turn out to be cheaper in the US, they’ll probably work out more expensive than decent rimfire ammo for us. I’d be interested in trying them, but they could be priced out realistically?

I used to no a farmer back in my youth that would take a catty with a pouch full of bb shot out and when we had starlings in huge flocks he would shoot into a flock bring a couple down pick them up and say that’s tea sorted think deep fried goldfinch,s are still a black market delicacy abroad so yes if it’s made of meat why not ✌️

I once cooked a starling on my dads’ garden fire. I used a garden fork to break it open and it looked and smelled like roast chicken ?. I would’ve had to be a lot hungrier than I was to eat it though?

    Are these new or old?

These are old now, 30 grains. I have two tins of them (300 in a tin) labelled Eley Wasp Magnum. They were originally bought to use in a Theoben Eliminator, but the Eliminator didn’t like them. I achieved reasonable groups with them with my little contour, but I only tried them at 15 yards and muzzle energy was down compared to bisley magnums etc. They performed much better than h&n rabbit magnums though. The contour sprayed the rabbit magnums all over the place. Some .25 slugs for sale on eBay as well, might be worth a try for anyone with an fac .25?

I found myself invoved in a bit of Old School air-gunning today.

I was in the middle of checking a few squirrel cages in a customer's garden when a call came from farmer . Half a dozen feral pigeons were doing what pigeons do ,all over things they shouldn't  be doing what pigeons do over .

I could have nipped home for something more professional-looking but decided to make do with  the squirrel dispatch tool I already had in the van . Namely a 48 year old Relum with iron sights.

It turned out there were six hardcore offenders . In a sort of OK Corral ( should that be Coorral? I'll get my coat.) face-off I dropped four into the dust and one onto a barn roof. Number six did an Ike Clanton and escaped.

Only one of the shots was  over 25 yards so I claim no great skill but it was liberating not to have to worry about denting stocks, knocking scopes or charging cylinders .

Only four pigeons in the picture. Number five is still on the roof.

The 22lr will have the potential for ricochet Mitch but thats is where backdrops and safe distance come in to play but don't over think it. I have gone a bought another rimmy simply because most of our perms are on the Lincolshire wolds and prone to winds which at times can be a real pain, the rimmy with hv ammo or subs can give an advantage over the pellet. the other reason is that we have one farmer who is seriously pestered by hares when the sugar beet starts to show and whilst my .25 fac Impact will stop one, I prefer to use the 40gr slug as a better stopper than the 25gr pellet on hares.

I am also happier to get the rimmy wet compared to the Impact although I do not normally shoot in the rain unless we are on the estate where I can shoot from the car window. They are a useful tool Mitch and in my mind more so than the .17hmr which is why even though I have a slot on my ticket, I don't have much use for one but that doesn't mean that I will not buy one however.....................perhaps.

Same here Phil, I use .22 at least ten times more than.17 it’s so versatile. If I need more I usually reach for the hornet.  But then, if I’m on mouse patrol.............?
