Brother to sister mating is it to close,
Sherlock replied to whisperingeye's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Whisperingeye, I have keeped and bred canaries since 1994, I have tried inbreeding line breeding and out crossing. Last year with my top stud bird I mated him with four different hens his sister, his aunt, his grandmother and an unrelated out cross. In total 29 young were produced all are fit and healthy whilst showing no defects. This current breeding season the same stud bird will be mated to 2 of his daughters from his sister mating, he will also be mated to one of his aunts daughters . The fourth hen he will be mated to is his great great great grandfathers daughter. You have received a lot -
In the National Museum of Scotland Edinburgh, there is a piece of roman pottery cica 1st century A.D. This artefact was found in Argyllshire, the decorations on this pot depict a large rough haired dog chaseing a large deer .This is claimed to be a Deerhound by the Deerhound society. Cheers Sherlock.

Skycat, I have just had a look at the ancient art of the so called basenji personally I think it is the young of the animal on the left of the picture. To confirm my line of thought I asked my wife her opinion and she said exactly the same . The dalmatian dog breeders society try to claim their dog can be traced back to the pharoes using dodgy art work. It is the same with the breeders of the Lizard canary who try to claim the bird is twice as old as it is. Pet sellers probably use antiquity as a selling point. Cheers Sherlock.

"Long before it's in the papers" August 03, 2010 RETURN TO THE WORLD SCIENCE HOME PAGE “Missing link” ancestor reported found May 19, 2009 Courtesy PLoS ONE and World Science staff Scientists say they have found a 47-million-year-old fossil that is a “missing link” from apes, monkeys and humans to other mammals. Discovered in Messel Pit, Germany, the fossil, designated Darwinius masillae, is estimated to be 20 times older than most fossils that explain human evolution. Darwinius masillae, new genus and species, from Messel in Germa

#181chartpolski Extreme Hunter Members 4,296 posts Gender:Male Posted Today, 10:00 AM Did anyone watch the programme on tv last night about Pedigree Dogs ??? The part that should interest anyone contributing to this thread was the bit about how the KC have changed the shape of the Bulldogs skull out of all recognision, in only 100 years !!! By selective breeding. Surely if this could be achieved in such a relatively short time; then the "Spitz" type skull could be changed to a "running dog" type skull, in THOUSANDS of years of selective breeding ??? Cheers. Totally agree there tomo, also a different diet ie feed every day with enough food to last it till the day after in stead of gorging like they do in the wild . A wild wolf can eat between 12 and 15lbs of meat in one sitting. The homly comforts of the warm cave or camp fire would have had a massive effect on the wolfs coat, the desert can be very cold at night. We have all heard of boys and toys after the first wolf pup was tamed I bet the idea spread like wild fire. Cheers Sherlock.

Painless, how did you hear about the "mound builders" I would like to bet it was on sky television on one of those conspiracy or alien type programmes, that's where I first heard about it . These jerks are trying to add confusion two ignorance in order to make cheap moronic television programmes. These programmes are usually made by religious fanatics with the aim of deceiving people into believeing that the biblical creation myth is true, and that the earth and mankind is only six thousand years old. As for there being a cover up about the "mound builders" there is extensive information on th

A project is underway to find the genetic basis for taming. Researchers at the Max Planck Institute in Germany have obtained two sets of rats bred in Russia. One was selected for aggresiveness and another for tame ness, mimicking the process by which Neolithic farmers first domesticated animals.( lifted of wiki).

Painless, You find it hard to believe that early man could not have created the Saluki from the Gray wolf, you seem to feel it was beyond their technical capabilities. So what are your views on the Chihuahua surely this is a feat of super human endevers to produce a dog so small from such a large wolf. There are thirty nine sub species of the Gray Wolf which also happens to be the widest ranging mammal on earth after man apologies woman. Of the thirty nine sub species of wolf that could possibly be the fore father of the saluki and probably all sight hounds, Iwould have to suggest Canus Lup

Painless, it is clear from what you say that you do not accept the reality of evolution despite the wealth of evidence for it. Therefore I have to ask what is your explanation for the diversity of life on earth. Do you believe in a creator God , or in alien intervention. Cheers Sherlock.

Painless visible evolution, rat poison ,antibiotics, mixamatosis, head lice lotion, all of these examples were all designed to kill either rats rabbits headline and bacteria. All of these life forms have evolved a resistance to toxins/ infections.

Painless, your views and beliefs are so irrational and entertaining I would like to hear what you think about global warming .

DNA sequenceing has proved that the domestic dog ( Canis Lupus Familliaris ), is a direct descendant of the Gray Wolf ( Canis Lupus ).

Optimus, that tapestry was made between 1524 and 1531 in Brussels. All this shows is that there was a saluki type dog in Brussels 500 years ago.

No painless I am not a teacher , regarding how did early man keep his bitches from breeding with inferior dogs he probably ate the jackers first the spear chewers second closely followed by the biters and the yappers. Or he might have put his bitches on heat in a purse net and hoisted it up a tree, who knows and who cares.

You are putting forward what is known as " the argument from personal incredulity" or I can't see it myself". This is not an argument at all as it doe's not present any valid reason or evidence.
-
People who do not except the fact of evolution are determined to delude themselves. Presenting reasoned arguments to them is futile as they have already demonstrated that they have abandoned all reason.

Why risk the health of your line with Merle genes?
Sherlock replied to 2Painless2btrue's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Fieldsman are your whippets pure KC reg or are they non ped coursing dogs. There is so much dishonesty in the dog world I would not put my trust in many of the breeder peddlars, money corrupts. -

It's the same in canary birds one brown feather in a clear yellow pink eyed bird and it's classed as a cinnamon. I mentioned spontaneous mutation earlier but I think you would only get one young not two or three. My money is on a secret love trist. Or a slight bending of the truth. -

Moll thanks for the quick reply and the photo, there is no doubt the dog is a merle. In the wild and under domestication spontaneous mutations do occur. Maybe Woodga got lucky a DNA test could prove the parentage. Any idea what sex the pups were ? -
Painless, are you a man of deep religious conviction and which cult do you belong to. Suggested reading for you ( The Ancestors tale.) by Richard Dawkins.

Merle is a Dominant inherited gene and cannot be carried in a hidden form. A dog is either merle or it is not. Providing only one of the parents is merle you will not have any problems, otherwise Mr Hancock would have gone to the wall years ago. -
Born to run 1083, After reading almost 950 topics on this forum ,it is quite obvious to me that most of the younger lads and some of the older guy's have not got a clue about basic genetics inheritance percentages or fractions. Any experienced dog man should be able to pick a pup of quality from a litter ,but none would be able to predict how tall it will be when it has finished growing. I think my advice shoulder have been to pick the pup from a full litter that way you might get the size you are after. No offence taken and none intended towards you.
-
Born to run 1083, you just pick your pup and hope for the best. With a bit of knowledge you can increase your chances of buying the perfect pup. This will reduce its chances of being advertised on the puppy for sale sites in twelve months time. Knowledge is power,Fore armed is fore warned as they say.
