  1. Hi, I am thinking about building a kennel/run so I can get a pup and start back after my lay off. Before I start with pen and paper and design the ultimate building to run my obsession from I was just wondering what you lot look for or would be on your list. I am looking to house two-3 bitches lurcher, terrier, sprolly, two working jills plus all equipment. I will need the facilities to breed but it would only be a litter every four years or so for my own purposes not commercial. It must be of timber construction as I live in rented accommodation but are looking to stay for about 5 years, t
  2. I feed all my dogs on rabbit as much a posible Gut them leave the jackets and heads on but keep a good worming regime. Ferrets had the same but always left the heads never produced a hard mouthed dog or a bad ferret just health animals who would work harder if they knew what is coming at the end of the day. Simon
  3. Hi lads its nice to see some other addicts. I fish the Wye and Lugg stunning rivers Simon
  4. A couple of questions. Have you had the dog from a pup ? Have you entered it along the lines of rabbit rat and something a bit feisty such as a mink ? Does it go to ground or dig at any of the above holes If you can answer yes to all these questions the dog is almost ready for fox. You need a fresh carcass for him to worry if the dog shows no interest drag it about until she is really keen. Do this for a while until the sight of the cadaver send the dog into a state of excitement? Take the dog to many likely looking earths and let the dog make its mind up d
  5. I total agree with eating your quarry I have eat most including fox (meat of the devil). Its just that ours guest, through no fault of their own see to be unaware of the need for licences or permission. Education is the answer but that is a long term thing. Simon

  7. Hi, In the fishing world theses visitors welcome as they are, are helping them selves to the coarse fish for the table. Knowing the sporting dog world well and the people who exist in this subculture I would expect that any sporting dog owner would be only to gald it inform any polish or other member of the european community of the code of conduct Have any of you lot come across any helping them selves to rabbits or other animals for the pot. If so what reaction did you get from them. My personal experience is they can be quiet vocal but I persist in educating them to the rules
  8. Hi I have been looking a lot at the pics on here. I notice a lot contain images of lurchers with bunnies most of them look dead. Is a soft mouth no longer a quality people have in their lurchers. I used to sell my rabbits to a game dealer for a £1.00 with jackets on 100 at a time early 90`s. Are rabbits no longer valuable and just good for ferret/dog food. Not having a go at anybody just a question as I have been out of touch for 10years. Simon
  9. Thanks for the replies. I understands the fact that he is a commercial breeder and his dogs are just commodities but, I do expect the kennels to be well managed and the dogs fit and healthy. He may breed good dogs but If all the reports of his poor stockmanship are true I will not spend any money there. As you can imagine since posting on this site my days and night have been spent with thoughts of dogs past and future. I will have lots of question over the coming weeks I hope some can be answered on hear Are Deerhounds capable of the below Ferreting- just to mop up any bolter

  11. Hi, I have owned 3/4 greyhound collie lurchers in the past and a 3/4whippet collie lurcher also. I always fancied a hancock lurcher is he still about and throwing out quality dogs. I would be working it with ferrets and lamp but not hard work 4 bunnies once a week on the lamp but out every day for a couple of hours bushing. My old greyhound lurcher would take a fox not sure if it still legal though as I am out of touch with the new laws I suppose I would have to stop the dog if a fox got up infront of a bunny while lamping as I want to stay with in the law. The ground I cover is of
  12. Hi, Hope you have read my intro on the main board I want two jill ferrets perhaps one that is towards the end of her working life I can use as a school mistress for the new stock this coming winter and The other one just starting. I must get some ferreting in by the end of this winter to get my pup started and my 10 year old son. I don`t mind getting them from different people but all from the same bloodline would be nice for future breeding programme. I am a builder/carpenter so housing is not going to be a problem I have owned ferrets for many years before packing it in due to family s
