  1. i have read various items in the sporting press that there are several chocolates being run in trials, and doing reasonably well. several more trainers are taking them on and doing quite well. chocolates like any other are only as good as the man/women training them. mine, he is mediocre because of my faults not his, but he does reasonably well on our walked up rough shoot. might have gone overboard with the pics...sorry. i have probably put thses pics up before but: not the best grip with my mates black bitch: favourite dummy: posing: w

  8. that is a cracking looking pup, i hope she goes well for you. she looks the part just go nice and steady with her and she'll be the business. lock down the stop whistle and recall when she is ready and you cant go far wrong. thanks for letting us see the pics, she really is a cracking wee bitch
  9. from what i remember, these dogs work a lot up in West Cumbria [the ones in the pics] the woman gave a little talk about them, the breed itself was a favourite amongst old gamekeepers, where its size came in handy for seeing off the odd poacher, quite an old breed. they fell out of favour and were replace by flatcoats who in their turn lost out to labs.
  10. i saw a couple in a display at coniston show, the looked very useful, much bigger than a lab which surprised me.
  11. he is an unregistered lab, the bitch was a choc [belonged to a friend of a friend] she saw limited work but from what i was told she was a nice steady bitch. the dog was a strong powerful black dog from perthshire, unregistered, but a solid worker. so a pretty undistinguished line. we were given a rough and ready ped but there are few prefixes on it and no kennel names [drakeshead etc] that i recognise. a few more pics: with his brother [the one on the left, he has hip dysplasia (?? spelling)]: right poser: waiting: another posing lad
  12. heard something about an 11 stone dog but seen nowt didnt know what breed or anything.....fecking disgrace! twats
  13. hi thurso must admit i was shocked when i read it, first time in over 25 years too. it was an interesting issue that one [gun dog wise] the guy trialling the chocs, they were very nice looking dogs, and then a goldie winning the championship, then next week i was reading about a shoot where the majority of dogs are flatcoats. i admire people for keeping these breeds in the field, saw a woman working curly coated retrievers at coniston. ours is really spaniel shoot, being walked up an everything, ive toyed with getting a clumber but will probably end up with either a springer or a cocker bu
  14. you're right there. this is the dog: and a link to ST's write up: Retriever Championship, ST feature
  15. cheers, he is ok no trial dog but a decent enough type., his failings are pretty much down to me interestingly a couple of weeks back there was an article in ST about a retriever panel A judge who is running two chocolates in trials, cant remember where but down south somewhere*, and ive heard of a few more being put into trials. then another choc turned up on the front cover of Sporting Shooter. ive also seen photos of a few working chocs on the Nobs site. i think the more triallers who run them the more you'll see especially if a few dogs get made up to FTCH and their genes enter gene pool.
  16. a few of my lab, light not great, me concentrating on too many things = poor quality photographs but there ya go......  a damp one:
  17. good pics mate, these are a few i took in the summer at the zoo. its been a tiring day, yawn. chicken on a stick [took a load of these, climbing the pole to get at it] humping rhino
  18. i am sure i read an article in ST about a shoot where somebody used a rottie for picking up, its very much the exception though.
  19. see how he matures mate, labs are notoriously immature and at 16 months he is still very young.
