  1. single duvet from tesco is about £6, rip all the dachron stuff out and use that light fluffy warm and cheap and one will probably last most of a year
  2. from what ive been told hobs dont like small trays or corner trays as they think they cant get their arses in
  3. im trying lino twinned with a small pooper scooper, with kitchen roll and "small animal safe" cleaning spray from pets at home to clean up whats left. once ive got the jill going loo in the same corner as the hob i'll probably still cut out a square of floor and put a tray underneath with a cage/wiremesh over top to prevent falling in
  4. got a wide based bowl for less than a pound from wilkinsons and they havnt nocked it over in mine yet, i cant pick it up myself unless i jam it against the wall and dig my nails under it due to smooth rounded edges lol
  5. asked advice on here, mainly found in this topic then i looked on the freeads website and the ad trader paper. if they list loads of different markings available and that theyll come nip trained then chances are theyre a tidy breeder. went to the rescue lady in barry today and she said even though she doesnt agree with the mass breeding like the breeder does (thats why she gets most of her rescue ferrets) she could see my two were in lovely condition etc and only slightly nippy which was soon solved with some firm "no"s and some stewing steak
  6. i would upload some pictures but 200kb is rediculous for a picture upload limit and i gave up on photo bucket ages ago, youll just have to take my word for it that theyre cute at first loki (hob) was cuddley as hell and poppy (jill) was the devil incarnate now theyve pretty much switched a few days later, loki has torn my hand ragged today but he's started making an odd noise like hes got a hair in his throat so i think hes agitated by that. eating and drinking fine so not overly worried its just painful for me lol and blame the girlfriend for the names, didnt mind loki as its the nor
  7. dont know about ferrets but i know wolves and some other animals actually pull the fur out ready for the pups to find teats easier
  8. spent all of today painting the hutch and trying to make a table for it to raise it off the floor, better not fall over when i finish tomorrow lol the cuprinol stuff got lower fume emissions and is wax and water based so its less poisonous if the ferret or the neighbours kid chews on it
  9. after an hour of crying about the b and q website being useless then changing to google ive found that the cuprinol garden shades range is ok but people tend to mix linseed oil in because its not effective enough otherwise. another that people seem to think is brilliant is the cuprinol ducksback as its wax based so its a bit more waterproof. both say suitable for around pets in the info if you look on enough websites thanks for the point in the right direction seany
  10. idealtion whereabout in south wales are you based? would love the chance to go out with someone who knows what theyre doing before the season starts so i can learn the basics
  11. guy in work who hates animals of all kind had a cat that kept crapping in the garden so the one day when he was out there with the kids he said "hey kids you want to see a cat fly?" then proceeded to shotput the cat as high as he could (bear in mind he's 17 stone of beefcake), it came back the next day so he did it again, never came back after that strangely
  12. any of you guys repainted/varnished hutches with ferrets in them? want to top up on the plywood at the back as its peeled a bit plus ive added a floor and legs that need protecting, but dont want to poison my ferrets in the first week lol
  13. are there any jabs etc i need to get done straight away? ive been told about worming so ive bought some worming syrup ready. how often do i clean the ears out because ive seen somewhere that they get quite alot of build up?
  14. went for a drive round various ferret places, first of all rspca f***ing shocking never going to bother with them again. after filling out loads of paperwork and pretty much promising to adopt something i was allowed to look at 1 of 6 ferrets they have there, the woman didnt want to know anyway but when i said i wanted to work them i was the worst person in the world and she locked the ferret away and waited for me to leave... went to a rescue place in ammanford which was alot better but didnt have the colourings we wanted so agreed to probably go back in a month to look at newbies. then w
  15. maybe its a come look at what ive done thing? most animals are trained by seeing the owner as the dominant male/father so maybe she wants to show off?
  16. i guess i could ask to see how beaten up the tracking collars/nets etc are
  17. revelation ive had about working ferrets because of what you guys have said about the ferret lady stretching the truth, how do i know that the working parents arent bloody useless but the owner tried once and wants to make a bit of pocket money by selling kits?
  18. i work full time during the week so i dont want to breed them, i was planning on doing the various snips/jabs as needed but something that was pointed out to me is that you should leave it until they are at least 9 months old otherwise it causes problems later and shortens lifespan :S i would like to get someone to take me out to smooth out the process but as ive learnt from using the guns no one usually wants to know as they think youll steal their permissions, or in the case of one or two just dont want to know even though you share a permission on a large farm. if i need to i can get my
  19. lol all this is just creating more questions in my head maybe try out a jill and hob team? im sure ive seen somewhere that people work them together. the warrens i have access to arent exactly big, i think the biggest one ive found so far has 7 or 8 holes in the space of 5/10 yards so it wouldnt take a very adventurous ferret to find the far end lol its hard work trying to balance up in my head the risk difference between getting slightly older ferrets of probably unknown experience/lineage to be able to use them this year, or get kits from a good line but more than likely miss ou
  20. at first i was thinking along the lines of small jills as theyre easier to carry etc but the nice lady pointed out that jills are a bit more of a handfull and 3 years is a good age for a first timer :S forgot my third question lol, is there anyone in or near cardiff who wouldnt mind a helper/observer coming along on a trip or two? im experienced with using shotguns and air rifles so im not exactly a clueless towny, just with the technicals of using animals rather than killing them
  21. im looking into getting ferrets for the loong loong periods that its too windy and wet to take the air rifle out, ive got my eyes on two 3(ish) year old hobs in a local rescue thats really a ferret fan with some hutches in the garden. the lady has done a brilliant job with all the ferrets and only the most stubborn still nip a bit so theyre friendly and playful but also lively and always wanting to explore so thought theyd be worth a shot but ive got a few doubts as im a first timer. my first question is is there a maximum size which is acceptable for working ferrets to ensure they can get

  23. what calibre? carbine or rifle length?
  24. the gun in the pictures isnt a carbine mate
