I was going to poor diesel on the roots, would that work? There is going to be a large shed/workshop going where it is, the hedge is where the entrance will be. Not ideal if it grows back lol

I was cutting down hedges with a mate at the weekend. Don't know the name of it, common garden hedge, is it privot? Anyhow, this hedge is about 30 feet long, 7 foot tall and well over 20 year old. We sawed it down till it was about a foot from the ground but by f**k the roots are hard to get out. We broke 2 forks and a spade still got loads of it to dig out. What I want to know is...... Do you need every root out or will the b*****d grow back?
