  1. Nice little dog, mate. What's it bred from?
  2. Well, we don't want to offend the muslims do we? By the way, Christmas used to be called Saturnalia in the Roman times, before Christianity. It was a time to party during the winter and was the mark of when the days started to get longer. Christianity hijacked a pagan holiday. But HO HO HO Day??? That's just ridiculous.
  3. ear mites or a grass seed of some sort, maybe? A vet visit might have to be the go, as dogger said.
  4. I feel for you, pal. I lost a great dog/mate to a boar in Oz about 10 years ago. He was just unlucky, doing what he did best but got cooped up between a tree and the boar. I cried like a teenage girl.
  5. From memory you can use scent dogs to find, track and flush deer for shooting but I'm not sure if you can use running dogs to bring them down??? I could be wrong, deer are feral in Oz so it might be gloves off. When I lived there I never went deer hunting, although there are plenty around depending where you are.
  6. no saluki. the way it was explained to me was, that one of the blokes who had them first. wanted a flash name to go after the "bull". im not sure but i think money was a big infulence. he had a doberman in the yard called "arab"....so the arab bit comes from an unrelated doberman just to sell a few more pups. incidentely his line that he is selling now has the catchy handle of "bull enduro's" lol, and he's got another line he calls Bull Stop. The bull enduro pics I've seen they look the business but I've never seen one hunt or have never heard any first hand stories about them hunt
  7. i was there in2006 what a scorcher that was too 44 on boxing day ,my brother lives on the vines(upper swan valley) right next to the golf club ,saw loads of roos some males a hell of a size what are the legalities now catching roos ?do different districts have different rules ? we went fishing in freemantle but caught nothing of size ,very disapointed were going back prob next or year after ,can i book days hunting , thanks lee//// Not too sure about the other states but in West Oz you can't dog roos anymore. You can still shoot them on private property with the permission of the far
  8. ///////I have also stayed in Perth, It was Christmas 2007 for 3 weeks, Travelled up to Kalbarri stopping off at Lancelin Dunes, The pinnacles, Geraldton, Pink Lake, Monkey Mia and lots of other interesting places, The furthest south I got was Freemantle, I loved it over there and it was the hottest Christmas Day on record! Love to go back someday//// I remember that Xmas, mate. From memory the mercury hit 45 degrees Celcius. Yep, it was a roaster for sure. Kalbarri huh? Did you see the feral goats in the gorges? They are good hunting and good eating too. There are also plenty of ro
  9. That dog looks in very good nick, mate. Credit to ya.
  10. Gidgegannup is north east of Perth. Yep, I have dual citizenship, it's great. Maybe I'll get sick of the UK soon, but I doubt it. Been here for nearly 2 years now and am loving it. There are loads of poms emigrating to Oz at the moment. I lived on a street with 4 recently emigrated families, good blokes every one of 'em. Might have to get a lurcher and do some hunting while I'm here. I need a dog of some sort, even if I don't get out much on the hunt.
  11. I moved out here to the UK cos my missus is an English woman and she was nagging to go back home for a while. I have loads of family here too. I emigrated to Oz when I was about 10. I've been back and forth between here and Oz loads of times, mainly for 4 weeks at a time. I love England though, but it's a little over crowded at the moment I reckon. I'll probably talk her into going back to Oz in about 6 or 7 years. I'm in no hurry although I do miss the hunting. There are rabbits and foxes galore at Gidgegannup, about 90kms from Perth. Lots of open country too.
  12. Hey Captain Jack. Yeah, he was one hell of a guard dog. In fact he was dangerous to be around if he didn't know you. Even my brother, a good dog man, used to say to me ''That f*****g thing is a loaded gun, he's gonna kill someone one day'' Lucky I knew that so when I had visitors I'd keep him away and always had him on a lead and muzzled in public. He was fine with other dogs though.
  13. Hi Tomo, I was in Perth, western australia. There are forest pigs in the south west of the state. Loads of foxes and rabbits just outside of Perth and loads of goats north of Perth. I travelled some big distances on hunts with mates. Always a good laugh and a great way to stock the freezer. I'll try and find some pics of the hunts I did. I did take some over the years but usually you're too involved in the hunt to remember the camera. I've got loads of pics of the dogs I have used over the years though. They're on a different computer though so I'll have to burn them on disc and transfer
  14. Cheers, mate. Yep I had loads of fun hunting in Oz. Plenty of feral game, lots of excitement, lots of danger, magnificent scenery and weather. My greyhound cross bitch above, Maggie, was best used in cooler weather. She had potential to over heat and she didn't have the stamina of my other dogs, but she could run like the wind and could hold a pig on her own. She retired at 7 years and spent the next 6 years chilling on my loungeroom floor. Laziest dog ever, when she wasn't hunting ;-)
  15. I also ran a Ridgeback/English Bull Terrier but I can't find a pic of him yet.
  16. Here's Doris. She is a pure labrador (working blood) over a Fila Braziliano from working stock. Lovely natured dog, very heavy but surprisingly agile. Weighed about 40 kilos She was just getting started as a hunter, but she could find and hold decent pigs once she got her courage up. Great nose on her and she would have made an excellent dog had I not relocated to England.
  17. Here's Cuz. He's a Jeep pitbull dam crossed with a doberman sire. First cross. I got him as a guard dog to start with, and he was a bloody good guard dog. Nobody could jump my fence when he was on duty. Stood 24 tts, weighed 38 kilos working weight. He also turned out to be a bloody good pig dog.
  18. Hi guys, loving the lurchers on these boards. Thought I'd show you the last pack I worked with in Australia. I hunted them on pigs, rabbits, foxes and goats. (hope I can get these pics up) Here's Maggie, She's a pure greyhound crossed with a 3/8 english bull terrier 5/8 greyhound. Great all rounder.
  19. Roo hunting with dogs has now been outlawed, mate. You can still dog pigs, foxes, goats, scrub bulls etc...but they've protected the native marsupials. Shame really, it's quite a sight to watch a good lurcher after a big roo. Good luck, you'll love it.
  20. if we're talking about dog fighting I'd probably agree. I'm not a dogfighter but the choose pits for a reason. But I've used pits for pig hunting and I've found they fight the pig, not hold it. I'd rather use an EBT or a staff for pigging.
  21. Funnily enough its' the breed bans that is making the pitbull in England a dangerous dog. Because of the ban people are mating pits willy nilly with any other pit they can find. The short gene pool is being overbred and carelessly bred, resulting in unstable dogs that make the papers. I have lived in the US and I have met hundreds of great natured, stable pibulls who can be trusted with people 100%. That is purely because there is a good gene pool to choose from. The pits I have met here and in Australia are invariably a little psychotic due to over inbreeding thanks to a limited gene pool an
