    NZ is the mecca for a large variety of deer species. The North Is. is renown for trophy size Sika (great hunting in forested areas). Other species include Red Deer, Wapiti, Elk, Sambar, Fallow. Though the South Is. has the best reds and hybrids. Chamois and Himilayan Thar are also available. If you are keen sens me a PM and I'll put you in touch with the right blokes.

    My first litter of Patterdales were born yesterday. I'm interested in knowing at what length the tails should be docked, when and how to do it? Another thing. The bitch has 5 pups. All are jet black but one, which is a red. Is this common?

    I have a couple of pretty handy "Jeep" type bitches which have shown well and produced some winners. I have recently put my Patterdale dog over the smaller one with a view to getting some outcross vigour in the line. The Patts down here are starting to get a little close "like Tasmanians" (I'd hate to see two headed dogs down here :whistle: Do any of you chaps have similarly bred terriers and if so - how do they go?

    Patterdales! They are turbo charged fox munchers. You can't beat 'em.

    9" loop is too big and 9" high it too high. Try 7" loop 6" high (to the bottom of the loop)

    Heres a couple we shotgunned off the little red bitch (right) as she bolted them from under a shed. The Black one is my first patterdale (Pearl) at 9 weeks. I'm told that the red bitch is a Patterdale. What do you guys reckon?

    There are several other traps and restraint devices used by hunters/trappers in Australia. Contrary to popular belief steel jawed traps are quite legal in many areas. I personally use laminated offset customised steel jawed traps on predatory species such as foxes, wild dogs and feral cats. I have found that they cause very little damage and stress on the target animals. Many of our trap lines are set through remote and mountainous terrain on which there could be as many a 200 traps. We supply live specimens to government reserach facilities in an unharmed condition using propertly constructed

    It seems that I have offended some of you. For that I sincerely appologise. However, both of the foxes you see are being held by "soft catch" rubber jaw traps. These feature offset jaws which are padded with rubber, at least two swivels and a cusion spring. Niether animal was injred in the trap. It is quite legal to trap foxes in this way in most places in Australia. I'd be happy to answer any questions on the ethics and whys and wherefores of catching foxes in this way.
