  1. do you expect them to do it for nowt? in uni for 5 years no life for 5 years, i think they earn it!

No one wants them to do it for nothing, but just think if you had a electricion wire a plug for you and he charged you a £100 for it you would prob think the money was bigger than the job as well!. All any one is saying realy is fairs fair its to much for what was done, and is in most cases. I know a lad who had a lurcher only 6 months old fell and broke its leg. Strait to the vets x ray clean break he plastered it up several visits were made over the next few months the total vet bill for that was £1200 and it came out the other side of that with a limp and in the end he gave it away as a pet. You tell me thats fair!.

  2. oh they certainly do mate.was at vets yesterday with my pup,he had an ear prob.build of wax.16 tablets (which are 12p each online, but need a prescription medrone v)and a wee bottle of suralan drops.£50quid.used to get my drontalfrom the vets at £14 a tab can get them online for £3.however guess there some things you have to go and see him about, but im always prepared to dig deep when i do.there was a report few month back in the mews of the world, where the vets mark up on drugs was in some cases 5 times the price.I know they have over heads and got to make a living.however some just totally kick the arse out of it.Also reading some of the posts on here about guys going to vets and getting bad advice makes me doubt them even more.

Robbing gets charged me £15.55 for pre-anaesthetic check that means I put her on the scales and then put her in a cage ready to have it done. £55.43 to put her out and all that for 5 stitches

  3. Make sure you are in the right spot ie between rabbit and where it wants to get to, Pick your rabbit and give your dog the very best chance you can, Dont be tempted on daft slips you could spoil a young dog if you start slipping on long rabbits that your dog has no chance of catching .Its still very early days for her and always try finish on a good note good luck and let us know how you get on. Sorry not closer other wise would go for a walk.

  4. Hi I just got back from the vets, Ouch, I have a bloody plumberm Terrier that from time to time just takes a bite out of my lurcher for no reason at all. Any way plummer jumped up and bit her just in front of hind leg and gave her a rip about 3" long just into her side and down the flap of skin. I took her to my vet that I am very happy with his work but, the cost, drugs and sundries £19 the doing of it £107 all plus vat total £147. The vet called me two hrs after dropping her off and said she had came around and was ready to be collected. He made a good job of it but boy do they know how to charge.

  5. Aknow we all love a good wind when we'r out lamping but earlier 1 of the boys foned asked if I fancied a shine tonight but it's proper blowing of gale here just know really stormy winds so I decided for the safety of myself and the dogs to give it a pass tonight but made me wonder if any of yous would venture out in they conditions for a nights lamping?

I stop when you have to hold your lead like a kite string (vertical).

  6. To change the beam you can also remove the outer case DO NOT touch the lense, if you do you can use meths to clean it but be carefull. Some times you will not be able to get a true hot spot even when you push the bulb back or forward . With the outer lense off look around the edge of the screw you will find a small lug that holds it all together. Very carfully with a small screw driver push between thred and lens and lens should pop out. Now at the back of the bulb you will see a clamp that holds the bulb holder its self normaly need plyers for this . With the clamp off push or pull the bulb holder back or forward only a very small amount and this will give you a new position for your bulb now you have more ajustment. If I remember right from base off lense to bulb holder there is about 4mm recess but remember only a small ajustment is normaly enough, you might have to play with it for a bit to get it but you will, you can try it with it in bits and fine tune it get the best you can then fine tune the bulb.

  7. hi whitby sam just a couple of questions for you as this is a hunting site are you a hunting man if you answer yes to this question then my next question would be why do you pay direct debit to the same people who want to see an end to all hunting not being assey just observant

Yes I am a hunting man and I started paying the RSPCA a long long time ago. I did this because at the time I wanted to do my bit for mis-treated animals. I guess I should've cancelled it sooner. I've been naeve about what cause I was supporting with my hard earned.

If they were all about saving anamals would they realy need to spend so much on new vans so often, and have you seen there main HQ not just the normal office no a big big fancy no expense spaired building. It takes a lot of people like your good self to pay and keep that going.

  8. Is any one feeding there dogs on Autarky food if so what do you think of it and what do you pay for it.I have just got through first bag dogs love it and one of them is a bit fusy with food they look well on it and they dont need as much as there old food. Best price I can find is £17.00 bit more than I would like as I got two lurchers and a plummer. What do you feed and how much do you pay?.

  9. Good luck with finding it. I never walk away from a bury unless I fill in, if you left her there to carry on chances are she came out for a wonder and could be any where by now, if it were me I would look around and not rely on your ferret being still in there. Traps work well and so would putting her box or bag with straw and food in there good luck hope you get her back.

  10. The one on e bay is a dog locator, I rang B/F six months back and they said they do not do ferret finders and had no plans to do so so unless they have just started, I dont think they do but if you find out different I for one would buy one. Theres not much choice out there so I for one hope they do .

  11. Has any one got a foxpro game call. I am thinking of getting a Firestorm mostly for Foxing. Just wondering have you ever used one or seen one in action. I have used several types of calls I mostly use mouth calls but there so many real animal calls on them wondering if they are worth the money. What do you think?.

  12. I am after a .204 for foxing and was initally looking at it in a Sako 85, not available and then tried to get it in the Winchester Model 70 Coyote Light - again, not available, apparently browning never made a 204 for the UK market.

Anyone know of any rifle similar to the winchester/sako available in 204?

I have looked at the Remington 700 Varmint SF, but not sure if im keen on it. I know aesthetics are not important and wont affect performance, but they are to me in any gun I buy. I really liked the look of the Winchester!

Failing that I may just go for the winchester in 22-250.

    All opinions and comments welcome.

Hi I have a 85 sako 22-250 and love it. It will do all that a 204 will do and at agreater distance away when the wind stops your 204. Easer to reload if you are in to it easer to find new or used better new if you can. Only down side very loud unless you put a moderator on it if you do much better and nicer to shoot all round good gun. If you do your bit you will not get a fox move from the spot. With the 204 if you strike bone they have a habbit off exploding on the surface and you will not find him dont get me wrong 204 shoots flat and is not a bad round , but side by side I know I would grab my 250 every time. If you are having trouble finding your gun why not have a think about buying used and have a custom barral fitted you will end up with a good gun that way at not daft money.

  13. Start off with a large target pinned to a suitable back stop at a range you are comfortable with.

Look here if you don't have any targets : http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/952-shooting-targets/

If you are new to shooting start quite close (15 Mtrs or so) and either rest the rifle on something solid or lie prone.

Take a few shots and see where they are landing, adjust scope a few clicks at a time up / down and or left / right and repeat.

As you get more accurate choose smaller targets.

Take your time, don't get frustrated and above all enjoy! :gunsmilie:

Dont forget if you shoot a springer that is rested on some thing hard it will jump all over the place best use a rice filled sock etc take your time enjoy

  14. Coundnt we all make a big deal about our own lines and strains of ferrets?

Its a load of bullshit mate ferrets are ferrets you get good ones and bad ones regaurdless on what strain there off

I have had working ferrets for nearly 40 yrs I know ferrets are ferrets some good some not so good. All I asked has any one had any from this line of ferrets, that should have been a simple enough thing to ask. I knew a old guy a few years back used to bread a few they were all slightly smaller than normal which is what I like, and every one I had from him went strait to work, and I have had one or two over the years. Same with this line of ferrets all I asked are they any good I know you cant say all of them will work but some one must have had some from this line and just say yes mine were good /bad what ever it may have been. That should not have made people angry. If I am short of a jill and I want to pay what ever I like thats up to me I have baught and sold many in 40 years and a ferret is worth what its worth to the buyer. This forum should be a place where any one can ask a simple question and get a answer with out the anger that this caused.
