It was a toss up between fishing on the kayak or ferreting today the ferrets hadn't been out since last season and Mathew had been harassing me for a couple of weeks so ferreting it was.
Not a bad day weather wise, not too warm, a few half grown still kicking about but done not bad with twenty decent sized in the bag, good to be out again, cheers

it bothers me that anyone who reads that article is going to be put off getting a collie x for there first dog,
imo a 3/4 bred collie x is ideal for a beginner/ easy to train, you certainly shouldn,t need to give its human equivelant prozac lol,
I get the impression he's not the type who can appreciate the finer qualitys of a collie infused mutt, seems to me its all about whats in the bag and not the hunt itself ?

some good points about tractability etc lads, I think if we were only adding collie for brains alone we wouldn't bother lol, its the other stuff they bring, the general toughness can't be under estimated
ps Weasle > I like saying CUR

Coat, stamina, feet, general toughness
I do get your point though about turning etc,
I'll give you a typical day out ferreting though with the whippet and the collie cur, the collie curs concentration/ predicting round the holes is hard to beat and she gets a good number of the bunnys before the whippet gets a chance
the whippet mops up the bunnys that get past her
so I suppose what I'm trying to say is it all evens out when ferreting
too much collie doing other work and you're at a disadvantage
dog for the job, horses for courses etc etc

I like the fisr photo twice!
The ruins always amaze me as they stand there still so proud on the top of the hill! Lucky you having so much in Scotland!
