The Dáil today, and Seanad tomorrow will be passing legislation to put some Covid-19 emergency measures formally into place: - Mass gatherings will be banned; - Doctors will have the power to force people to stay at home if they are a potential source of infection, and if they refuse to do so; - Gardaí will have the power to enforce the bans on gatherings etc.; - The Minister for Health will have the power to restrict travel both inside Ireland and internationally, he will also have the power to 'shut down' specific parts of the country if necessary; - The measures about sick pay

  13. Coronavirus Social Distancing Irish style... This photo of the Saint Patrick passing North West Greenland 1993 is possibly the most spectacular photo ever taken of a Galway Hooker. The 1906 Casey's of Mweenish, Connemara, built Saint Patrick - Bád Chonraí, while skippered by Paddy Barry, crossed the Atlantic in 1986, before sailing to Greenland in 1993. She also sailed to other Artic destinations including beyond the 80° latitude parallel of Spitzbergen at the edge of the Polar Ice Pack in 1990 which resulted in Paddy being awarded the coveted Blue Water Medal of the Cruising C

  19. ???? I can see polytunnels and allotments popping up every where over night. Could be the best thing to happen, more self reliant. Wasn't there a dig for victory campaign during the war in the UK. Most if not every back garden in Britain was used to grow some sort of veg and keep chickens and meat rabbits. Atb j

  21. What I can't understand is, why people are acting like there's going to be a famine, we are not running out of food. The toilet roll thing is utterly ridiculous. I'd be more concerned about medical supplies running low or out, but don't see that happening either. Atb j
