  1. mine is a 4-16x50 and keep meaning to take it off my .300 and put it on my .25-06 as i use this for Foxing as well as Deer. Hold my hands up i am shocked as i use the .300 a lot early season an the scope has "NEVER" missed a beat in all the time i have used it, if i did have one compaint even on the lower setting the ir is to bright, but then again i never use it
  2. A 300% "YES" Mick i have had one on my .300 Win -Mag for the last 2yrs and it has not let me down yet
  3. If you are takin "Moonlght" you need a Mackerel sky very very light cloud you can see through.Best times are 2 night before a Full moon up to three nights after (for Geese that use a moon) "YES" we are very lucky in that it is Legal to shoot Wildfowl. Avoid starlight night's
  4. trust me im trying to help you. I NEVER said they were feedingat Night. Unless it is Moonlght. Right your Geese are Grey-lags and Canada Geese. get ur butt out before light, the Geese will arrive from the water roost eg Lake, reservoire or coastal mud flat's these species of Geese will then leave approx 2-4hr later back to roost.-2-3hr before dark back again onto the field when its dark off they go again to water roost. What i think you have seen is the Geese arriving for there late feed going away before the Geese leave and becauce ur not there first light u see the Geese and think they have
  5. A-TEC :clapping: Had them both, use the over the barrel on my .300 Win-Mag, CMM4-AL on .25-06 know at least 8 people useing this mod on .243,.25-06,6.5x55,.308 and 30-06
  6. mate trust me unless it is "Moonlight" Geese roost an NIGHT and FEED during the DAY. Your Geese wandering about are FEEDING. For some calling can be easy others NEVER master the art, but rest assured a Call an blowing ur butt inside out does not get u Geese. Get up watch listen an learn wait for the right weather conditions, get well hid on the flight line into feed Happy days.
  7. about 9.30pm you say???????? If so why was they lamping!!!!! Did you witness them lamping Deer!!!!!! I was stalking last Sunday evening my last shot was 8.40pm no lamp all above board an legal picked my two Deer up then went 1 mile aprox picked my mate and his Deer up at about 9.30 we started to grolloch our Deer. Unless i have missread your post had you came upon my self and mate would you be posting we had been lamping Deer If see something i think is wrong i find the fact's eg i would have asked in a polite manner, your had some luck chaps etc before i jumped to conclusions
  8. As allready stated they are comming to feef NOT Roost. My advice get up in the morning an watch them into the field, where they come from and wind direction, small early skein will an can with the right calling be fooled in to range. I have inland Goose shooting where i get 60000+ Pinks each winter i never ever shoot them on the field they feed on !!!!!!!!!!!! your clear them off. thats fine if you want no more shooting. As for you having Pinks i'd say 99.9% they are Grey-Lag's. Dont forget NON TOXIC SHOT pick the right morning with a bit of wind and enjoy. But you must do you home work
  9. what species of Geese are they ?????????? Roosting on a field???????? never ever heard of that. So give us the true fact's (1)in the morning (pitch black, say 04.30am) where are the Geese???? (2)what species (3)how many are there . hopfully answer those questions an my self or someone can help an advise you
  10. maybe not but i dont shoot geese for sport . . . i do it with a rifle for PEST CONTROLand unless youve shot geese on my permission please dont tell me what to do and what not to do . . . i am a sportsmen but part of my job as an underkeeper also means that pest control comes before sport and i have hundreds of other jobs to do then wait for close range geese . . . not that i need to justify it and i have never shot geese out of season . . . aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhh bless touch a raw nerve!!!!!!!
  11. Funny how the Canada's are the problem, and NOT the Grey-Lag's !!!!!!!!!!! If your any sportsman at all get off you butt and scare them by fair mean's Rifle's and flaunting the law has "NO" right in the sporting world. Just in case you have not allready seen post's by me where i shoot i have 60,000 + Geese have had for 35+yrs and NEVER EVER shot one out of season or with Rifle and STILL have my shooting.
  12. Samearl14 I live in Camb's. Stalked for 35+yrs and have open F.A.C. You or farmer got a Deer prob!!!!!!! I'll sort it and i "DONT" Charge. PM me
  13. Good luck to you both above, enjoy your shooting for the coming season. Hope to see of some your future post's of success
  14. Depending on make. any where from £5. (fiochi, saga) per 25 up to £20 per 25 for Remington. Saga,Victory and Gambore can be bought in box's of ten.Without doubt the early Steel was a bit dodgy, Most i have tried in the last 2yrs is getting better, Steel also does take a bit of getting used to, do to it's "FAST" speed. This i feel is where people can give Steel a bad name of "NOT" killing and eratic. eg they miss or only catch a bird on the fringe of the Pattern, the comment being "missed most, cliped wouded a few but i DID KILL a couple!!!!!!!!! My advice to any one is before you spend Big mo
  15. First of all, "SORRY" Guy's, I was expecting another "STEEL" Dont kill debate's. With out doubt HD is awesome but for me the Price does not stand up to the Advantage over the other non toxic. I have been Very Very lucky to have had and still have Many Many opportunity's, to try various Non Toxic on Geese of many species, I personaly use 36gm Steel 3s-2s-1s Gamebore,Remington,Saga and this season i will be trying Fiochi. I use a 3" Steel profed 12ga 1/4-1/2 choke-sbs, if i do my bit up 50-55yrd a Goose will be Killed very cleanly every time, i have to say i belive "CONFIDENCE" is a "BIG" Factor
  16. I hope I'm wrong but I feel your post seems a little condescending, as with the tense in my post, I haven't actually had the opportunity to shoot geese or any other waterfowl for that matter, but there's nothing to beat enthusiasm and I'd like to be prepared that's all. I guess for me, "range" would be about 40-50m (personally I'd try and not shoot at ranges over 40m as targets at the clay ground don't go out further than that, so I wouldn't be confident of how much lead to give, but one pellet behind the ear'ole is better than 300 behind it's butt! having said that, live game is much differe
  17. First of all, What do you call "RANGE" I hear this so many times Steel is Shite etc etc To be totally honest in Most cases its the man behind the Gun!!!!!!!!! They are occasional Goose shooters/WILDFOWLERS and not used to shooting Geese. 36gm 1s or 3s are more than cappable of Killing Geese cleanly time after time, get in front of them, shoot at the head as though it is a Snipe. Result one very Dead Goose forshore or not. The mith that Forshore Geese are harder to kill is Bull, 50-60yrds is just that, but in truth most Geese are shot at out of Range.
  18. tricky can and could be done "Kenzie took more than one Disabled Fowler onto Shep's foreshore
  19. needs must though sometimes.. why would you risk losing your permissions for the sake of a couple shots at canada geese, they arent sport, the migratory birds are sport... the couple of shots at canadas that keep your farmer happy..the geese soon forget about it So you would rather lose your SGC or FAC or both?????? You are corect Canada are "NO" sport what so ever shooting them with Rifle and or Shotguns out of season. I have for 35+year shot a area where in winter 60,000+ Geese are feeding (1) I have "NEVER" shot them out of season (2)Never with a "RIFLE" (3) "NOT" Lost my shooting (
  20. or if your mate is a dab hand with a "Tig" Welder get a cheap Aluminum Ladder add the seat rail's from Alu or try and source alu tower frame to weld to the Ladder paint Green light strong or if you have permmision pick suitable tree/tree's make a wooden Ladder then add shooting rail's to tree, i use this method where public could be a problem with a static hight seat
  21. There is 6 boxs of ten (60 cartridges) @ £30 per ten they are my Father's
  22. "NOT" Looking for a ruck here, only trying to help. So why are Mod's not all got the same hole in the end???????? i have "ALLWAYS" been advised to use the correct size Mod to the Cal of Rifle eg .22 for .22- 6mm for 6mm- 6.5 for 6.5 and .30 for .30 as it is the most effective. Yes it cost more as in my case .22 for a .220 Swift-6.5 for my .25-06 and .30 for my .300 Win-Mag i have them "ALL" threaded different so i can "NOT" fit a small cal mod to a bigger cal Rfle. jmho
  23. where are you shooting???????? England or Scotland?? Gamebore or Fiochi 3" Steel 1 or 2 shot if in England 2.75 1-1/2oz 3 shot Lead if in Scotland. i personaly would not waste your money on 3.5 shell's to much bang, kick and money for nothing imho
  24. i have shot and reloaded .25-06 for a lot of year's have shot all six species of deer + boar. I shoot 120-150 Fallow and 10-15 Very Big Red each season My load i use in my Tikka t3 hunter is 50.5 OF IMR4831 (different to H4831) Fed Gold Match Primer and 120g Nossler Partition or 120g Grand Slam this Premiuon Bullets are hard and driven at 2,800-3,100fps no abnormal meat damage, soft light constructed bullet's from the .25 will cause a lot of meat damage. "KEEP" Those light pretty coloured tipped bullets for fox's. With patience and care your .25 will do "ALL" you ask of it mine will ragged hol
  25. out of season at the moment. Normanly cull (NOT PARK OR FARMED) 120-150 each season to my own rifle
