well dan if you ever have a good old retired stag that has done it all for you, Then you could give him no better reward than to live out his days of retirement servicing working deerhound bitches and lurchers over here in our Islands. you could be the man who saved the working deerhound! Im not implying that you are the type of guy who wants to make History! p.s working deerhound guys dont take offence this is only talk and Ideas. we know some of you have top notch hounds.

So true that Dan no one will sell a good dog but if I was you I would defo get the EDWARDS line over here bro if ther that good they will hae a impact on a lot of crosses There is no Edwards line. I did not breed my dogs. I dont take any credit for any of that. I didnt even own my current dogs a year ago. They were handed over to me by a friend. My friend did not even breed them. He takes no credit for that. Good dogs are where you find them, not some magical secret or breeding plan. They just crop up here and there from time to time. Nobody could just wave a wand and recreat

I think its important to keep a line of good dogs between close friends and people you trust. after all who gives a F**k what other people are running once your own dogs are top notch. Hense the reason I said stag hounds if brought over here to our isles by decent dog men, would have to be kept between a few serious clients that would breed in the correct manner.

best thing to do is someone taking their deerhound bitch over for service. that way you see the hound work. cost a lot of time and money though. artificial insemination is another option

Just a point in relation to restoring the deerhound. Would it not be better to put a stag hound into the mix as it contains the blood of the original old school working deer hound? I dont see how putting bull blood into a deerhound will fix any problem. And im not talking about breeding for type here , im dead against that kc shit. what im saying is that these staghounds contain deerhound blood that is old stock and not kc and are probably like what the scotish deerhound would look like if the kc didnt make shit of them. im not talking about any few genuine working deerhounds left before someo

Well lets hope that if stags do make it over the pond that its for the right reasons and not greed. A lot on this forum seem to be very interested in the stag hound as the American guys will know from the amount of questions that are asked and in my opinion it is only a matter of time until someone puts one on the boat. If it does happen it is something that will have to be controlled to a tea between a small number of trusted and serious enthusiasts who have the best sporting interests at mind. The worst thing that could happen it for every white trainered track suit wearing young fella to pu

There is an excellent topic on deerhounds on this forum and i didn't want to sabotage the thread with this question to you genuine deerhound, deerhound x enthusiasts. Would these stag hounds have much use at this side of the pond? could it even be a way of possibly saving the working deerhound and restoring old type? Do you think there would be much interest from the lurcher world over here if for example a couple of proven american stag hound stud dogs were brought over? Maybe the scotish deerhound is fine the way it is and there is enough good working strains. and maybe the stagh

except for people with skinny pencil necks any more pics of the stags dan?

Can you prove the dog is not eight? If you cant then it doesnt matter what you think. there is such thing as being over paranoid too mate. Its a sad state of affairs if we cant even talk about hunting without thinking about antis. If the man said "pre ban" in the sentence then it should be good enough for us.

thats interesting poacher, does that go for long dogs and half cross lurcher etc.always thought greyhound bitch as theyl take more from the mother and be faster but i suppose its not clear cut with genetics Many say that if the dam is the bigger dog in the cross she will throw bigger pups but they also say that if the dam is a lot smaller than the sire the pups will be small but will make up for it by doing a lot of growing after they are born making no difference in the long run.?

"Past" being the key word in your sentence.

Hello im new to the forum. I was wondering about your prefferences for breeding first crosses. should the dam be the racy parent (i.e greyhound or whippet etc) or the sire? does it matter if the bitch is smaller than the dog? eg breeding a big greyhound to a wheaton or small collie or whippet. do you think this effects the size of the pups and the side of the breeding they take to? What are your experiences and prefferences.
