You're right mate I could shoot 'em with my cannon but it's not exactly covert is it? :11: As for meat damage on deer the only thing that gets really damaged with the 30-06 is Muntys from my limited experience thus far Even lads who use .22-250's and have owned the .222's in the past say that the "little" .222 was a deadly accurate tool. INTERESTING What say you Baldie?

As a lot of you will know I'm virtually a rifle virgin having only got a .22 just over a year ago and my 30-06 5 months ago. Anyways, I've got a space allocated to a .223 on my ticket and it's got me wondering what calibre I'd go for? My choices as I see it would be .223, .22-250, .204, .6mm PPC or .243. What do you lads think?

You're right peg it is big but it's the only big rifle I own and it'll kill everything in the UK and I want to do some boar as well so it's ideal really. Deerstalker what do you mean "more weight"? It's at the taxidermists at the moment then i'll send it off It's all new to me to be honest as I've only been stalking for months not years.

Here's a nice Buck I shot whilst down in Sussex recently. Had just climbed down from a high seat with thoughts of heading home as I'd seen bugger all in 2 hours and just caught a glimpse of this fella mooching about in some fern about 70 yards away. Shot him with my Sauer 30-06 and he dropped like a stone. Lovely head on him. Going to have it mounted once it's been scored .

How the hell can you compare an air rifle or rimmy with a .410 anyway...............totally different beasts. If you're shooting woodies flying in to roost as they come over mature oak trees what range is that? I'd say it's about 40 - 50 yds wouldn't you? I'm with peg on this one. I own a lot of shotguns and my .410's are always what I take out when walking the dogs for downing the odd pigeon or rabbit. The silenced Hushpowers are shit hot and I've shot woodies coming into roost with it regularly (40-50 yards easy).
