  1. Many thanks for all your support guys. As soon as I work out how to post pictures I will post one! It feels great to have a running dog at long last!
  2. Hi everyone. I have just returned home from picking up my first lurcher. She is a bedlington whippet and is 14m old. I have always wanted this breed of lurcher and am over the moon with her! The guy took me out out for a walk up with her and she was very impresive!! I have ran terriers all my life and i am now very excited about this new edition to my pack. She is yet to be trained on the lamp so I will soon be picking all your brains as to which is the best one to get for rabbiting and any tips on getting her started! All the best Neil.
  3. found two in the stop end 2 sundays ago. Have found 5 in an artificial out hunting [pre ban] Hounds run more than one to ground in the same earth quite regularly.
  4. Totally agree with dogs-n-natives im afraid. Some dogs are cut out for it and some are not, that is of course if you can be sure the earths were holding! You certainly cant train a terrier to stay with their quarry. Maybe you you entered the dog before it was really ready? Or like I would imagine most people will say.... Its just not cut out for it. And your not the first and will not be the last to come across a problem such as this! Good luck mate.
  5. Go for it!! It may not be a problem at all. There are quite a few undocked spaniels on our shoot. Some have problems with their tails and others dont. And there are quite a few in the trialing world too. I would not be put off by it at all. If it does become a problem, then as long as your vet knows what has been happening and has seen evidence of the tail damage then they shouldnt have any problem in removing it! Good luck!!!
  6. Never used an o/u or even seen one. I do own a yeoman sbs though. I dont use it much anymore, it was my fathers and holds some sentimental value! Although it still works very well and I wouldnt dream of selling it [not that it would be worth much of course!] good luck
  7. welcome mate P.S love big sed's photo!!!!!
  8. Are you a member of the fell and moorland terrier club?? It is well worth it, it costs a tenner a year and if you lose your terrier to ground they will do there very best to help you find it. Lots of very knowledgeable terriermen come out with evey tool you can think of, even mini diggers. As for locators, bellman and flint are without doubt the best! You can only buy from them. Type them into google and there web page will come up. You can sometimes find a second hand one on here or ebay or something. Id love to tell you exactly why they are the best but if you look and read on the
  9. I dont think anyone can say more than Geoff.c!! Perfect advice!!
  10. The way I always do it is to 'dog in' for the local shoots. Especially before the season starts. If you have a word with the keeper he/she may let you dog in the boundarys of the shoot. have you trained your dog to 'sit/stop to flush'? If so, the second it flushes a bird get on that stop whistle as fast as you can. I always keep my whistle in my mouth at all times when working my dogs, it saves vital seconds in fiddling around!! Also, like alot of guys on here have said, a few days in a rabbit pen which hopefully should have some birds in there too will certainly help! Then I would move
  11. My little pack consists of..... a jack russell [dog], a russell/lakeland [bitch] and a patterdale [dog]. I take them bushing and i dig to all three of them! Which is best? That is very difficult to say but if I had to then..... for bushing/ratting, the lakeland/russell is my best. For Digging, it totally depends what type of earth it is and what you need to be done. My Patterdale is fine with other dogs and he has been dug to over 50 times. I think it totally depends on the individual dog and on the owner what the the dog is like with other dogs. My personal opinion [and every
  12. Try breezybrook gundogs in bedfordshire. They a have a good website [just type it into google]. I have had a cocker from them, very nice dog and very well bred!
  13. I cant believe that! B******S. Im going to the fell and moorland show this evening so will make sure everyone is aware of what has happened!! And tell them to keep an eye out for the dogs!! All the best in finding them, I hope for their safe return soon.
