  1. got plenty of permission on ground with just as many rabbits (not telling you where though because its closer to you) but im always looking for more
  2. you could be right there, but theres plenty round there and im sure anyone who lamps round there regularly has already found similar spots
  3. Yeah did think that but i could only get up there about once a week anyway so there would be plenty to go round
  4. I was in a place called parkhead near penrith (cumbria) today and took one of the dogs for a walk down a foot path between the fields as i had an hour to kill, the fields on both sides were teaming with rabbits none of which looked like they could give a toss that i had a lurcher straining on the end of the lead wanting to get at them! i had a drive round to see if i could find a farm to ask permission at, which i could'nt. To cut a long story short has anyone got permission up there or anywhere nearby and can you please point me in the right direction to ask permission? Cheers,
  5. If its just rabbits you will be going for a whippet will be fine, but personally i would go for a whippet cross around the same height (20" tts)next time as mine has been very slow to mature and they have thin skin
  6. let the ferret nip her nose, that normally does the trick
  7. a train track runs along the side of the path i walk my dogs on, they never go anywhere near it but i always put them back on leads if i see a train coming just not worth the risk
  8. Nice looking dog, i had one a lot like it once, she was a collie/grey/bull x collie/whippet
  9. This must be the third time this week someone has posted to say they were jacking it in. If its not the hunting ban its the state of the economy meaning that people can barely keep a roof over their head never mind keep and feed dogs! I think us hunters should stage a coup and overthrow the government! Viva la revolution!
  10. That probably isn't too far fetched, i think we have all at some point had someone back track on us. It could just as easily been an overheard conversation in a pub!
  11. We hear too many of these stories. I bought a 12 month old lurcher but asked for a trial before i made an offer, i wasn't looking for a ready made perfect lurcher and his recall was pretty shocking if im honest and he had no basic obedience at all! but his recall is getting there now and he can do the basics (sit, stay, wait etc) The lad i bought him off said he could do all of these things so it just meant that i had a lot of room to haggle! I think a lot of people expect to be able to go and buy a dog and it will be able to do everything they want it to do strait away. You have to bui
  12. My whippet was too fast to start with and still gets a bit carried away on the first run or too of the night. Whenever she was slippet she would just run as fast as she could towards the rabbit and would over shoot when it turned, she is better now but still does it sometimes
  13. Got your work cut out for you there mate! ha
  14. Strong looking pup. Much heavier built than mine by the look of it
  15. The green light will go off when the battery is charged
  16. Once you move back in they will do your nut in! believe me i had to do it for 6 months and i was going crazy! Could you not kennel them in the garden or something? if your getting a job off your dad can you not just carry on living on your own/ get your own place?
  17. thats what i wantd 2 hear like, wud u limit the runs to a few a night? or would u gan balls out to get the first few? bet its gud up haltwhistle, i do a bit ferretin up haydon bridge n always do well. I would limit the runs to start with and build up. Its not a good idea to advertise where you go on a public forum though, you will get people on your permission. ha
  18. once a yapper always a yapper, every time its under pressure now it will yap,its shouting for the rabbit to come back as my old dad used to say,but thats what you get with a whippet Thats not right at all, as i said my dog did this the first couple of times but she doesn't make a sound now
  19. My whippet did this on her first couple of trips out. Make sure you are giving it easy runs or it mite make a habbit of yapping, i found that it was frustration that was making her do this. After a couple of catches she stopped yapping and has never done it since
  20. It depends a lot on the dog really. I didn't start lamping with mine untill 14 months because she was still a pup in her head (if you know what i mean) if the dog seems mature enough i would get her started on a few easy runs now imo.
  21. Worth a go if its for nothing and ready to start work. Should be fit too if he was planning on racing it
  22. There was a topic on here a couple of weeks ago about the new lithium batteries and it got me thinking about the next generation of LED lamps. This type of lamp as far as im aware is not yet available but i was thinking that it shouldn't be that hard to convert a standard lamp to LED. My question is this: Has anyone done this conversion yet and how? if not there must be someone on the forum with experience of LEDs who can supply information on how it might be possible to do it? Thanks, Adam
  23. Arther carter fieldsports or try ebay might be cheaper but not a lot of come back if it goes knackered in a few months
  24. The easiest way i found to exercise mine was to get them on the beach with a ball thrower. I normally throw one ball per dog at a time. If your really lazy you could stand in the same spot all day!
  25. I remember having to beg my mum to let me get anything! when i first started rabbiting with a mate i asked her if i could get a lurcher, at first it was an absolute no, so i got 3 years worth of back issues of the countrymans weekly off my mate and read them all cover to cover and made sure my mum saw me do this i then started to drop into conversation intersting facts about lurchers she started to soften after she saw how much i had learnt about the subject and how passionate i was about it. She said that if i was still rabbiting in a year i could get a lurcher so thats what i did and she kep
