  1. Where I am currently staying. Andujar; the capital of monteria.
  2. I got it out with some Podenco Xarnego on my last trip rabbiting. He hasn’t had a chance to do as much as he liked but it’s a smart thing and I think it will click if he keeps getting out with the rehalas. He’s only just found a rehala pack to join after my last visit to spain
  3. Thanks all, tomorrow I’m hunting hares with saluki’s and falcons. Spains hare population has been ravaged by the rhv2 disease or whatever it’s called and mixy (Granada hare can catch mixy). Because of this I’m expecting tomorrow to be difficult and I think we’re hunting the falcon in olive groves which is not normal falcon flying ground. I’m supposed to be doing the same Sunday but that all depends on how we manage tomorrow. Saturday I’m at the galgo final, feel like I should have went to the quarters or semis instead as only two dogs will be running but the timing wasn’t right for the ot
  4. The Podenco Paternino work more like a hound than the rehala dogs on my last trip. Instead of meandering along at pace pushing quarry these find scent and work the scent in a line etc. pick up the pace when they sight quarry and are quick enough to make the boar bay up, they stand off until the Alano’s arrive and then get stuck in. The alanos stay head end of the boar and DO NOT LET GO at all, brilliant dogs. Being in a gorse bush with a boar could be dicey but these dogs know their job and there wasn’t a single ropey moment. the Rehalero (master of hounds) has done it all his life and wh
  5. So I came back, couldn’t stay away! Saturday and Sunday I hunted boar with Podenco Paternino, I was offered the chance to dispatch a boar and ended up with two. I think they wanted to see if I was an anti as the president of the Assosciation said afterward he was not sure if I would do it. I relished the chance, first boar the Rehalero held by the legs whilst I dispatched and then the second was in the middle of gorse and there was no room for two of us so I held it by leg with one hand and dispatched with the other. They were shocked to hear that they were my first boar and so I was “baptised
  6. Actually thinking of taking an English dog over there in a couple of years and seeing if the hares are faster or their dogs are slower. Only way to find out I think
  7. Well I’m unfortunately now back in England but already planning my return after missing out on a few things due to hunting being on certain days etc.
  8. Couple more images of the Paternino, I have been gifted a book on the history, standards etc for the breed but it’s in Spanish ?
  9. Home today, unfortunately didn’t get my final day Rehala as it was cancelled due to rain. Instead visited the kennels of the Rehala president to see and discuss his dogs. we met on the Friday for a drink and tapas and discussed the various issues faced by us in the uk and those in Spain at the hands of the antis. I put him in touch with the president of French terrierwork so that both organisations can liaise and discuss their plans etc. Which is nice. Here our organisations just take the donations then turn their back on us. Alfonso works a breed of podenco called Podenco Paternino,
  10. Just an update, not had much chance to edit and upload any photos yet as I literally haven’t stopped. Wednesday I hunted podenco xarnego valenciano in the actual valencian orange groves which was nice, we had 4 rabbits and one was released. Yesterday I hunted Rehala again and we had around 50 reds and 30 boar with both dogs and guns, great day. this evening I am meeting with and having a meal with the president of the Rehala association, think he wants to understand my intentions, suss me out type thing. tomorrow I hunt Rehala with him for the first time, it was tough saying go
  11. I speak very very little spanish. Just hello, rabbit, boar, fallow, red deer etc. Google translates my best mate
  12. If you can get an invite to hunt in this country with someone you have not met before then doing the same in another country is just as easy. They’re just dog men who like hunting dogs too. I had about 50 invites in place before heading over here but won’t be able to fit them all in, all manner of hunting. Been to France digging and Utah mountain lion hunting twice too by doing the same thing.
  13. To be honest I didn’t ask, I did ask “to stop the blood clotting?” And he said yes but I’d didn’t press further. yes potentially, very big farms though. I didn’t see a car where I thought “ah he’s only got a couple” everyone seemed to have a full trailer
  14. This fallow fell over its own shadow. the wound was boar inflicted and the dog was injected with anticoagulant and stapled up on the spot
  15. Didn’t catch any bloody barbel they wouldn’t touch anything I threw at them Dan, frustrating as hell.
  16. So there was around 25 Rehala present (packs) each comprising of around 12 collar (couple). At the start of the day you all meet up and the hunt organiser comes and gives you your starting points. The outright goal is to drive to the guns who shoot trophy boar, bucks and stags etc. However a lot of boar don’t flush and a lot of deer crash etc. These are fair game for the dogs. The hillside we was on had four Rehala who made our way up in turn, Rehala one released and headed to top of hill, followed by Rehala two who headed 3/4 way up, Rehala three 1/2 way up and Rehala one stays just a quarte
  17. Morning all, I don’t come on here as often as I used to but thought I’d drop on and share some images from my current trip to Spain. I am out here hunting and photographing various working dogs for a fortnight all over the country. On Thursday I hunted with various Rehalas on one of the most important monteria in the country. Throughout the day we were always in full view of the sanctuary de la Virgen de la Cabeza, patron saint of hunting and as such the area was sacred and meant a lot to the hunters present. We took around 25 red deer, 20 fallow deer, 15 boar, 3 foxes and 2 mouf
