  1. Sorry to hear about Cathy, Ned R.I.P. girl
  2. I have a neighbour who saw the film Bombón El Perro last year and spent all of two weeks "researching" the Dogo Argentino (looking at photos on the internet was the extent of his investigations I think), before buying one from Madrid. He told me that he paid more for the transport than for the dog herself (obviously a sign of real quality breeding lol). Considering he already had a bad natured Lab and absolutely horrible little terrier type thing, both of which he left on the street all day long, I thought I had better take some magazines I had on the breed so that he had an idea about what h
  3. Some great looking Bullterriers on this thread, from both KC and Ingles line. To answer the OP, I only know of a handful of working BTs-a couple of catch-dogs in US and a few doing protection work. I personally wouldn't pay such big money for a dog only to risk it on boar, for example (I'm in a boar hunting area and it's legal to hunt here), when any number of crosses, that are available for very little, can get the job done. Incidentally, I am not saying that some BTs don't make fine workers, all I'm saying is the price is prohibitive for somebody in my position. However, if a drivey BT n
  4. Pops hit the nail on the head for me-the second mortgage quip. I can't justify paying big bucks when I can just pick up a pit cross from the local pound that'll get all jobs done; however, I would still be interested in seeing how any working EBT lines are going because they look a nice dog, these more athletic types.
  5. Cheers for the information pongopalmer. Is your mate intentionally breeding them like this or was your boy just accidentally lighter boned and more athletic than the modern day EBT? Either way, I like the look of the dog and would be interested in getting something similar myself.
  6. Nicely constucted bull terrier that white one. What's the breeding pongopalmer? Cheers mate
  7. There's a Dogo club that hunts in Spain but it's very rarely. I think the guy is from this web site http://www.dogosranchoviejo.com/favorite.htm I'm not too sure if he speaks english. Also I have been told that once a year, on private land, it is possible to get a permit but you have to know the land owner etc. Unfortunately it seems a thing of the past here (at least legally, but the fines are huge and not worth the risk).
  8. Ned The activation of dormant genes thing is something I have seen time and time again. My work has taken me to a lot of different places and, whether it be in S.America, mainland europe or Asia, I always love the way that locals have their own working dogs based on supposedly useless breeds-often Eng Bullies, sometimes Boxers, Bull Mastiffs etc. We tend to write breeds off owing to the very harmful decades of show breeding but, in my experience, a lot of these supposedly shit breeds still have some very good blood running through their veins that can be activated by people who know what t
  9. Ned I have seen on a NZ site, Monteria boar hunts, that a few of the guys have been looking into publishing their boar hunting stories and experiences. I think they have been costing the whole enterprise and maybe even approaching publishers to see how to go about it. Perhaps thay could give you a bit of advice- they seem sound enough blokes. One question about your line of dogs. How is their nose? I notice there's not much bird dog (only the Pointer in the Bull Arab outcross) so I was just wondering how well they hunt at distance?
  10. I'm also sorry to hear your bad news. It's just an unfortunate part of having, and working, dogs. At least they weren't just banged up on a sofa snoozing their lives away like so many dogs out there-they got to live and work hard. Personally it never gets easier for me losing my work buddies. Best of luck.
  11. Great thread Ned. You have an appreciative audience here it seems and you've even brought me out of lurking to let you know how much I enjoy your posts. Great stuff and keep it up please mate.
