  1. hi he also works on his own like a lurcher in what way?!! i have lurchers and a gos and work them seperate. my lurchers been fully tame to and even protective over my gos but if i took both gos and lurchers out on rabbits then my lurhers would be dragging the rabbit around with the gos attactched. you have trained your saluki to be a stand offish lurcher i.e. he is playing second fiddle to the hawk, just like dirtwinger off here hunts his gyr with his lurchers on jack rabbits.(which he does successfully) for me its seems a waste of a saluki to to cover work i.e. to flush pheasants to
  2. I.e - is it totally down to what you work on with the dog i think you answerd your own quetion. some do just one particular field sport with there dogs. be it ferreting, lamping, mooching, coursing e.t.c. some use there dogs for all sorts and have done since they were young and the dog will be better at some things and less so at others. thats just the way dogs are. should the owner have there dogs do eveything rather than just one thing i.e lamping or ferreting. well thats up to the owner and just because a dog only does one thing.if the owner is happy with the dog is all that matters

you should know there is no fresh out of the aviary birds at this time of year. have ya flown a bird of prey before? if not then ud advise get reading and if you can get out with someone who fly,s to gt some experience before ya decide on getting a bird. with different ones then yes there are big and small ones lol but all will take what a gos should take.
  4. any small lurcher will do for what you want, but i would go for a lurcher rather than a longdog,

  16. thats the quote of the year, you never had a good dog in your life NONE of your dogs did more than a single hare in a day, the fact you have shot the same dog because it jacked , your a joke your dogs are a joke, as the guy said this is mens talk go and change your ugly wifes nappy or something pmsl dont waste arguing with that moron kid. he is a great boy to rob your money the bum and call you and your child names just like he is good at calling me names! when is his next signing on date lol. but when i seen him last he drove by with me signaling him to pull over but he drove on the
  17. lol.i was wondering what was going on
  18. it means when you pull ypur young gos from the pen you keep it awake and on the fist for 48hours or more. on the after the first and second night show your gos as much as you can, dog,s,livestock, veichle,s everything. he will be too tired to do anytthing but wil still take it all in. it,s suppose to take the edge off the gos and tames it down quicker. i had a short season with him falconer. had his first kill on the 29th of august and ripped one of his talons off on a rabbit mid november. he had 114 kills to that date. killed rook,s,grey crow, jackdaw, maggie,s,rabbit, black back gull,2 rat
  19. i waked mine last season. i have not had another bird to compare as this was my first gos but it seemed to take the a good edge off my gos, still done the usual manning and training but he seemed very laid back for a p/r gos. this is him a few months after the waking.
  20. i have ferreted without collars when i was younger.you will rarely dig to the ferret as you wont know where he has killed the rabbit, plain and simple lol. you can find some with some field craft and using a thorny briar to find some. if the ferret does stay on a rabbit which happens then without a locater and collar then you will just have to wait. thing is if ya know exactly where the ferret is and its a shallow dig then instead of waiting half an hour for the ferret to come out and having no extra rabbit in the bag, with the locator you can have the ferret dug to in 5-10mins or less which
  21. sorry but this post has to be a piss take?
