  1. If i get a dozen , and a run on old red coat i am happy :victory::laugh:

No disrespect to you Bird :D ,but thats what i said earlier..have the men/woman who keep lurchers today got the drive, desire, want, need to push their dog to catch a ton? I'm not so sure? I'm like yourself nowadays,a nice few bunnies and i'm happy but back 20+ years ago it seemed the norm to try for such feats and i was no different

  2. Sorry, i'm late getting back to you LL :( ,i've spoke to my father and like you say eating LARGE meals can set off angina,he eats little and often but is exactly the same if eating a large meal, fingers crossed you have the the "stable" version ;) ,it may take weeks, months or even longer to get you on the correct medication that suits YOU,my old man took years to get right, hope yours goes much smoother.Take care. All the best PP.

  3. YA KEEP BANGING ON ABOUT THE LAMP COMP, WICH YOU WERNT IN . AND ARNT IN THIS YEAR EITHER.

ITS ONLY 3 HOURS , SO IT AINT LONG ENOUGH TO GET THAT KIND OF SCORE

Tomo,as well as that is there the type of people owning lurchers this day & age who would be commited to trying for such a number even if the dog was capable?

  4. i remember a lot of talk about tommy mcphee back in the late 80s and early 90s i heard from more than one source he kept some very handy lamp dogs and he would punish them hard with a lot of running as caithness was heavy populated with rabbits at the time. it would just be good to know if it was wifes tales or truth thats all.

That was the reason i first asked the question SBBR :D ,it was BIG news back then, would be nice to know if there was any truth in it? I have spoken to Tommy in the past (around that time) albeit by telephone about some pups he had and he did tell me back then that he did do it on more than one occasion, whether he was truthful or not i don't really know but he seemed a decent fella so i have no real reason to disbelieve him. :D .All the best PP.

  5. Just thinking back to many moons ago :icon_redface: ,i can remember a copy of the then Shooting News with an article about Tommy Mcphee and his dog which was basically Whippet/Grey catching 120+ rabbits running solo up at Caithness on the lamp,if i remember correctly there was a picture on the cover if it wasn't the rabbits he also supposedly took 23 hares solo with the same dog and it may of been that which was on the cover? Any truth in him doing the feat then folks? :D

  6. ...............the guy is a complete muppet and has had his day..................didnt his dog come 4th out of 5 in a race recently????

What does that prove? Looks like another interesting topic going off track? :wallbash:

What does that prove???? I'll tell you what it proves, 'Mark' came on these sites saying his 8 or 9 month old pup was destroying everything it raced all over the country including all the best dogs around...................thats not entirely true is it, cos he forgot to tell us about a member off here who's dog gave him a spanking, now he's had the same happen again the other week, he got spanked in the lamping comp and he knows he was lucky to make it out the first heat, running at 1000s of rabbits..........:laugh: .........he couldn't even produce 20 of them at the start of the season....................:laugh: .................oh and lets not forget his claim to fame, when he got lucky on the fens and he knows he got lucky there...........:yes: .............so what it proves is he only has average dogs and even thats debatable when you see his youtube clips....................... :feck::feck: ................but the age old thing happened to him............. he actually started to believe his own hype and convinced himself his dogs are world beaters.............:doh: .................Mark wasn't interested in an all quarry single handed challenge throughout the next season...........:no: ................dont bother making any silly challenges for big money, mark cant see them through to the end.............. :clapper::clapper::clapper:

I take it then it proves quite alot :tongue2::tongue2:

  7. Sorry to hear this,i hope your feeling much better now? Can't say your overweight can they? Your cholestrol is high, the Dr will have you on tablets to reduce that along with a change in your diet to get it down below 5,my father had a heart bypass 12 years ago and before that his cholestrol was over 14! The Gtn spray is good,my advice would be although i'm not a Dr but it's what they told my old man was if your ever going to do something strenuous then take the Gtn BEFORE you do it.I'm sure the treadmill test won't be a problem what with looking after a pack of dogs like you have lol. As for stress, well hopefully tablets will help reduce that.Hope everything goes ok for you.As for the smoking..your a big girl now so it's no good me telling you to stop is it? Good luck.

  9. Just as an example: Sheikh Mohammed buys many of the "best bred" yearlings when they are up for sale..he's not only very rich he's a realist and knows fine well that not all are going to reach the standard of their parents BUT not only is he a realist he lives in hope that maybe just one or if he's extremely lucky more of his purchases will do just that,he doesn't go to the yearling sales and buy or accept gifts of "moderate" yearlings bred from "moderate" horses,he only wants horses which are bred in the purple as it is they that are more likely to become champions .Many of the top "match" dogs are bred from "well bred proven parents" as in all walks of life that won't always be the case BUT imo it helps and at the end of the day many of best things in life are NOT for free ;) ,no we ain't Sheikh Mohammed but the principle is the same,if you want a better chance of getting a good un then you may have to dip into your hard earned if it's quality that your after and i'm sure we'd all rather have that? :D

  10. Racing greyhounds is a hobby. racing whippets is a hobby. racing pidgeons is a hobby. The list goes on and on. So because these are sold and not gifted they are peddlers. I think not. I was brought up on the assumption that if you wanted something you paid for it.

Couldn't of put it better myself :clapper:

  11. Poacherspocket 22 ....... Fecking hell that bloke caught 110 single handed on 2 consecutive night's ....... Now i'm not saying that I don't believe it but :icon_eek::whistling::D

I just searched Google and somewhere amongst the returns was that,i have never heard of him or the type he CLAIMS took those numbers  but like you say 2 consecutive nights

  12. As i'm relatively new to all of this pc's,hunting forums etc: i found this topic very interesting, just one question i'd like to ask though is this: if both dogs had say ran 25 rabbits each, one catching 20 and the other 15 and then the dog which had caught 20 go lame or became exhausted would that be the end of the match or would the dog which was trailing be given the chance to catch up and even given the opportunity to go on and win in the remaining time and therefore obviously not make the match an equal amount of runs for both dogs? Thanks in advance :victory:
