Ireland GET LEGAL WITH YOUR DOG AT THE BALLYWALTER FAIR
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
One thing would be in our favour is that the dog license in the Uk was abolished in 1988 and they have a smaller unwanted dog problem than we have in NI! So as a form of control there is nothing in favour of it. From my discussions with politicians the only thing they could come up with in favour of it was that it finances the dog wardens - whose main job is to deal with abandoned or lost dogs! Now if everyone has their dogs microchipped this should reduce the workload greatly of the dog wardens and the cost to councils AND should the responsible dog owner really be paying for irresponsib -

Ireland GET LEGAL WITH YOUR DOG AT THE BALLYWALTER FAIR
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Yes - I know that has been the case supported by heavy advertising in the run up to the legal deadline. But it is only at certain times and involves a trip to a certain vets or certain pet food stores. I am sure that there are many people like me for whom it was more convenient to simply take the dog to the local vet and pay for it. What we are offering at Ballywalter is not something that is unique but something that is convenient if you have your unchipped dog there. We are indebted to the Dog Trust for facilitating this. Ireland GET LEGAL WITH YOUR DOG AT THE BALLYWALTER FAIR

Neil, That's why I thought it was the better form of control and of course even if you have to pay for it is a 'one off' fee. The Dog License is simply a method of Councils trying to recoup the cost of their dog wardens in effect it is a tax on dog ownership. -
Microchipping your dog became a legal requirement today in Northern Ireland. In the consultation process on dog control I had put it to the representative organisations that they should support complusory mucro chipping as a trade off against abolishing the Dog License Fee completely. Unfortunately they thought they knew better and fought compulsory microchipping AND LOST. So we now have compulsory micropchipping AND this has been accompanied by a severe hike in license fees. So far this has cost me three microchip fees plus an extra £20 in dog license with a block license moving

Our Game Fairs are not just about Terriers, Lurchers and Whippets! Yes , we have good showing and racing planned for Sunday 6th May NOTE EARLIER STARTING TIME of 11.00am and main arena displays on the Saturday but the fair has also many other attractions for the whole family. Apart from there being more stands of all varieties, we have further improved the layout. Thanks Tully, We will have many other good prizes throughout the show. I forgot to say that the Over & Under 23" dogs from Shane Lee's recent racing meeting have also qualified for the Master Mc Grath Final. We are happy to take another couple of Irish Shows , one more Welsh one and a couple more English shows to give a good representation from all over these islands. Albertj -

Thanks guys - Ballywalter looks like being an excellent event with some good new attractions and competitions and new stands coming in each day. But with Shanes being our 50th Fair we really will be pulling out all of the stops to make it a 'spectacular'. Shanes Website will go live within the next couple of weeks. Albertj

Change of Sponsorship: Because we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Ireland's longest running and most prestigious Terrier , Lurcher and Whippet Championships - THE ALL IRELAND TERRIER & LURCHER CHAMPIONSHIPS and our 50th Game Fair I have been able to persuade my fellow directors of the Great Game Fairs of Ireland to celebrate these milestones in Irish country sports history by taking on the sponsorship of the terrier, lurcher and whippet events under our own brand to demonstrate just how much we have put back into the sports. We will be making similar celebratory commitments to

Judges for Ballywalter Game Fair
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. With nearly 6,000 visits I have to say I am delighted with the 'publicity' for the Ballywalter Game Fair and few people won't know its on the 5th & 6th May! However I am saddened slightly that our selection of judges has generated such heat before they have judged. I have always believed in giving everyone their chance to see what they could do. I am grateful to those who have agreed to disagree with my opinions and our selection of judges as well as those who thought our judge selection was fine. Robust debate is healthy & welcom -
WNM, You must have set a record for this forum since you joined it on the 24 March - FOR THE MOST NEGATIVE POSTS ! At a time when I should have thought it was important for working terrier and lurcher enthusiasts to get together ready to defend their sports I find it bizarre that people like you are so vehement against someone judging a dog show. Be lovely to see something positive from you. Albertj

Judges for Ballywalter Game Fair
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
WDN, We have run Game Fairs for 34 years ( 50th fair at Shanes) and terrier & lurcher shows for 33 of those years with a range of judges - of course it is absolute nonsense for you to think we consider there are only three judges who can judge . Unfortunately your criticism and your four posts to date appear to be some sort of vendetta against the McCoys. Ballywalter will be a fun day and I personally consider we have three good judges with the terrier judge Barrie Wade , someone who, as I have said before, truly has the interest of the woring terrier at heart and who was respo -
WNM, I see you joined the forum yesterday and it must be a record - FIRST FOUR POSTS FILLED WITH CRITICISM! I wasn't at Rosscrea but it was good to read Margaret's report. As LesleyD says her reports serve a very useful purpose and that's why I am going to show my support for her and the positive people on this forum by asking her to become a regular contributor to our magazine Irish Countrysports and Country Life ( free to read online at www.countrysportsandcountrylife.com) . If she will acept this then I am sure she will invite people to send her news. Goodness knows this is time for

LV, I see you posted again on the Ballywalter judging thread - I have made it clear that I will only answer your questions, ponts or assertions on this personal thread or through pms - although I suspect you are more interested in voicing your criticisms publicly To answer the points /your questions on the judging thread: LV "Point 1) if you could highlight to me, exactly where in all of my 6 replies have I spoke of Rose(other than page 3 reply34) or Fox Gun Tom for that matter? You made an attack on us not appointing working judges - and as Rose was the only only one of ou

LV, I am not going to answer your posts on anything but the personal thread I have started or by pm. Albertj -
No bitching just answering Leeview's attack on our judges. Quite frankly don't really care whether he attacks me personally but I do care if he tries to get at me by attacking other people. Now I don't think I know Leeview - I certainly don't think I've ever done anything to him but if virtually everything that is put up on this forum about our events is attacked by him. This thread was to give him an outlet to attack me personally if he wishes and leave other people out of it - alternatively he can pm me and the thread can die or be removed. Albertj

Rake, Sorry you misunderstood me. LV has been constantly on my information posts including on the recent one about our judges. I put up THIS post so that if he wants to continue his attacks on me he can without involving other people. It appears to be very personal with him so I am giving him his opportunity. I do understand were you are coming from and if his attacks were solely on me I would ignore him. Albertj

Judges for Ballywalter Game Fair

Paul, Your are entitled to your opinion as I trust you believe we are ours. Our fairs attract working dogs, show dogs and racing dogs. We do not have tests for working ability in terriers and lurchers - we have shows and racing. Therefore I consider it is illogical to think that someone who solely claims 'to work their dogs' should regard this as the ONLY qualification for judging a show. One could say ideally the judge should have experience of judging, been successful at shows and works their dogs, In that order NOT the other way round. Only if it was a working test would the work -
Peter, No time like the present for our 50th fair. Special ferry rates and accommodation rates available - a weekend for two for c £250!

Fiona, I appreciate your post. What annoyed me most about him is his attacks on other people as part of some vendetta he appears to want with me. Quite frankly I don't give a toss about people like him criticising me personally. But he persistently attacks our events, without him possibly even been to them, and whilst I head up the events it is a reflection on other good people within our team. He has really irritated me by his attack on Rose and Foxgun Tom in an apparent attempt to get at me. That's why I put up this thread so he can do what he appears to want to do on a person

Anyone who goes back through posts relating to our game fairs or any opinion I put up on this forum will note that waiting in the wings to constantly offer apparently only negative criticism is 'Leeview'. Now any of you know who have had spats on this forum with me know I normally don't hold a grudge - generally we argue the point out - sometimes you come round to my way of thinking or I take your crticism on board and improve our events by taking cognisance of it or we, 'like gentlemen,' agree to disagree and get on with our lives. Now I don't know what I have done to upset 'Leeview
