  2. I have had a number of enquiries as to whether Welsh, English and Scottish competitors are eligible to come and compete for the ALL IRELAND TITLES and prizes and the answer is YES! Apart from the Master Mc Grath which is pre -qualify and dogs from England, Scotland and Wales have qualified to meet dogs from allover Ireland in the final all other competitions are ENTRY on the DAY and OPEN TO ALLCOMERS. This is what makes the prestige of winning an ALL IRELAND TERRIER, WHIPPET , LURCHER or even PUPPY title so great and one of the most prestiogous in these islands. Your dog has defeated all
  3. A warm invitation is extended to Welsh owners of working dogs to come and compete in the 25th All Ireland Terrier & Lurcher Championships at our 50th Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle on the 7th & 8th July. All competitions except the Master Mc Grath Final are open to all and the prizes are unrivalled in either Scotland or Ireland. With special ferry & accommodation rates available why not try for an All Ireland Racing Title on the Saturday or an All Ireland Show Title on the Sunday. The lurcher champion goes forward to the Five Nations Championships at our other fair at Birr Castle

  6. Barry, Thanks for your good wishes - hope the tap is turned off for the last week in June and the first week in July. Weather usually changes around 21st June!
  7. well i mustn't know what] i am doing, even though all i meant was that even if the pup only ever had its teeth into a couple of quarry it wud already be more of a "working dog" than most of the dogs that you see in the ring. and pups not getting placed cause of injuries cause of hard ground, not round ere the place is a swamp cause of the rain we get, i will be watching( in the puppy classes) out for the lame, hop along pups that shouldnt of bin allowed out of the kennel til they were 2 year old. most of the dogs in the ring are show ponies, what odds if they are, if thats what their owners r
  8. MTF , For better or for worse the decision has been taken on the All Ireland Championships that pups are not eligible to compete for the overall championships BUT as I have said we do have a Puppy Championship where the whippet, lurcher & terrier pup compete against each other under three judges to be judged All Ireland Puppy Champion 2012 and apart from the title the winner will have a tankard and £25. Albertj
  9. Yes on both counts. JBS with nets and range of gear and Wildhunter - lamps . calls etc plus a lot of other stands with relevant dog , hunting products.
  10. Tango, As usual the voice of reason. But I will look at topping up the Puppy Champions Prize again. But I should have thought having your puppy dog as All Ireland Puppy Champion at the 25th All Ireland show under three judges should have been satisfying enough. Albert fair enough.good to hear there is a puppy championship,I remember few years ago at a few "smaller"shows an 11 month old pup winning puppy class and going onto win reserve champion, it just shows at 11 months it looked the part, the judge had a good eye for a dog/pup as it turned out a great worker too . im not all int
  11. Good idea we are giving hip flasks as prizes. Will you make it up I owe you a couple of tickets for a show of your choice? Im definately going to be able to make it to birr but not sure about shanes yet as my van is falling apart again and im back into antique dealing again Let me know and I'll get you a couple of tickets to a show of your choice. Albert
  12. Hope this is the end of this particular thread. As far as I am aware no one has brought forward any proof of cheating. My current post on prizes and classification at Shanes Castle indocates the way we will deal with allegations in future. Albertj

  14. at least 1 year old, but sure is puppy class not for 1 year olds and younger, so if the winner of puppy class is 1 year old exactly then would it not be old enough to be a fine example of its breed type. is this the way all shows work the puppy winner does not be in the final along with all the other class winners of its breed. I think you will find that at most if not all of the shows, a puppy is classes as a dog under the age of 1 year, on the day it turns 12 months and has it's first birthday it is no longer a puppy it is an adult and has to enter the appropriate class. at least

  17. We hear there are some fast terriers coming from the Uk and South of ireland. You'll have to get in some serious training!
  18. I too am looking forward to getting it completed as my 50th Fair! You will note that we have given whippets equivalent prizes ( and some would say extra classes!) throughout except for our feature lurcher races. If we get a good turnout of whippets we may consider something special for them in 2013. albertj
  19. Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine in the shops tomorrow. We have chosen as our cover a great painting by John R Moore of the Massereene Hound against the backdrop of Clotworthy House, the old stable block of Antrim Castle. This is the 400th anniversary of the carving of the statue of the legendary hound who saved Lady Marion from a wolf and then went on to save the castle from attackers. There will be a special class for wolfhounds at the fair on Sunday we hope to see up to 20 of these great dogs there. Albertj
  20. I had discussed splitting all the classes into dogs & bitches with the organising club but the terrier entries at the three shows I have been at Ballywalter, Mourne and Moira didn't in our opinion warrant splitting the classes. Depending on the entry at Shanes we will review this for Birr and for 2013. Albertj
  21. It has always been the classification at our events but you have put forward a suggestion which I will put to the Rosscrea Club who are organising the show at Birr.
  22. And if he has an eye for a rough....................?
  23. Flash, Sorry I misunderstood you - we do have a Puppy Champion which I missed out on. Now added in. Not a bad idea about putting rough's and smooths separated . will ask Rosscrea Club to consider this for Birr. Albertj
  24. Flash, We have a lot of racing to get through and as this is a Championship Show we have gone for adult racing only. We have tried to separate more 'elite' dogs from novice dogs and given rough; terrier cross and smooth novices their own races with a final. Ultimately we can have a rough dog elite class too. But we have tried to give as much width to the racing to give as many people as possible a crack at the prizes without diluting the prestige of the show as the All Ireland Terrier, Whippet & Lurcher Championships open to all comers so if your dog wins you can genuinely claim to be
