  1. small gap for a fat bloke sent my mate shotgunandy back down to get my stick back lol it was a trick place to get to andy's collie and my lurcher had chased it into the building block and he ad forced him into stacks of trays but the terrier guided us in otherwise we would have been shifting 100's of boxes. alot of work for one rabbit but well worth it the dogs know that we will trust them!!!!! and thats worth its weight in gold!!!!
  2. she is well into a rabbit that was hiding behind trays!!! she did good she was deturmended to get to it!!! move some trays and after 15 min we were close within one row!! if i had lefter she would have bit and ripped her way to it ripping chuncks of wood of the trays!!!! well pleased with the out come.
  3. Hi mate glad you could join is your in safe hands on this site you have good advice on tap!!!! sometimes LOL. best advice for any work dog thats got the basic commands sused is to get them out with trained workers they pick it up very quick. with that type of dog i would say that you should walk in zig zags when ever out walking they will learn to cover more area when you are beating your own brash. but dont listen to me to much as i aint a gun dog man i work terrier's!!! O make sure he dont flinch under the gun if he dont like the gun fire he is aint much good!! try dropping the food bowl a
  4. It would be a few time to set up my rifle and to look good when the Firearms officer comes around thats it! i would end up using it more to get the use out of it but i would want to use the time hunting!
  5. well Sunday went well poor start through lack of experience got it sused by about 2-3hour in our first set-up was poorly placed went on a drive around the fram to check where they were dropping spotted a nice place!!! set up and were pulling them in while we were seting the hide up (this got me thinking dont put the deeks out first!!!!) learning on the job is best i have found. was refining the technique as we went and getting good!! ended up with 12 but this was mainly through our shooting we were missing wildly early on but we got better very very quick. thanks to you all for help an
  6. I think i will setup in the morning shoot till midday ish then go up the other farm to have a word with the farmer few things to sort ;-) then go back in the afternoon will leave the hide up in all day!!
  7. never thought of that makes sense!!!!
  8. I know it maybe very frustrating not having land to shoot on and it goes without saying you would think of paying if you thought that you could get some shooting permission or a one off shoot. But think of this lads and ladies you pay this year £40 the next year farmer Gilles starts to see pound signes over his pests so next year its £50, the year after its £60 and so on and so on!!!! the price has no limit coz he has what you want!!!! if all pests are worth nothing and everyone sticks to that then the price of nothing will alway be nothing!!! you are saving him money on crop and your a
  9. any cloths u use to hunt in SHOULD NEVER BE WASHED WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN PLAIN WATER!. if anything wash in plain water in a bowl, NO SOAP AT ALL of any kind, dont want strong sent on your stuff, u will find that most washing powders will leave UV film on your cloths as it helps to reduce the damage done by the sun ie bleaching colours. Also thi sgos for any hunting .. shower befor u go hunting BUT DO NOT USE SOAP! just plain water.. Pluse i would advise you only wash your hunting kit if you really have to.. I my self choise not to.. and i keep all my hunting kit apart, ir deer, rabb
  10. thats what i text my mate when he told me about the topic last night!!!!!
  11. you need to get out the day before mate with the binoculars, set yourself up somewhere near the area your going to shoot and watch over it for a couple hours, you will soon see where they are going to and from and fields they are dropping into, might have a drive up this afternoon for a look!!! whens best early morning ? do they drop off during midday?
  12. I am off tomorrow for a decent go at deeking i have picked up my kit and am ready to have a go!!! any good tips on flight path's is it pot luck or is it an educated guess using layout of land (i.e do they fly more or less when near tree locations, ponds, hedges large fields, small fields?)
  13. yep i found the minsterly club but its a little steep for annual membership i thought!! £180 quid or something!!
  14. Hi anyone one know of any rifle clubs in the Shrewsbury area or is the best way to find out by calling BASC????
  15. i think its got to long this topic new people are jumping in and posting there ideas on .243's that wasn't the idea or the original post. In basic the topic has worked!! we have worked out that .17hmr although a nice bit of kit it is costly to run and becomes a bit of a handful if the wind picks up due to the weight of the round. The .22lr is a good starter rifle that no ticket should be without the .22 hornet is a fox cal. that can be used on smaller ground game with the right skill and shot awarenes and can be very cheap to run when loading you own. .223 is a good fox rifle that is pa
  16. also if you load your own does that mean you have to have an explosives cert too????
  17. No, Hornet is a centrefire, LR is rimfire. I've heard of people who had .22RF on their cert but still couldn't buy a WMR, just LR. You're correct in that the form isn't that specific but the FEO would tie you down to a specific rifle in the end. so when i get my visit he would want to know what type: lr, hornet or magnum and i would be stuck with the choice?
  18. you dont have to put the round type if i am reading the form right just the Cal so if i put .22 it would cover .22lr or hornet right??
  19. Best of luck though if you can get it granted then fair play and happy hunting
  20. lol dont sound that hilly to me now i read the first post again !! but he says its a little hilly
  21. and i was worried about getting a .22 and .223 granted on 400acr lol that said depends on the land it might be a small valley if it is you might be lucky
  22. yes i would like to have a crack at munt when i catch one in my sights with the right tool's yum yum !!!!! i think i will leave off the .243 for now but will bring it up in the interview that i will be looking to add it in the next couple of years. having just said that should i put it on and see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .22lr and .223 i think then !!
  23. fair enough i think i like your plan!! i will give him a call see what he says. If i was to put down .243 and it not be granted would the whole application be turned down or just that Cal. at the mo on my permission the only dear that can be found is muntjac but have a friend that has offered some big game when i get sorted. I am looking to go on the Dear society course's this year and next.
  24. what to do what to do more research and opinions needed the laugh of it is i was talking to my local dealer and she said put all 3 down its a fair comment but i dont want to look to cock sure on my aplication just coz i cant make my mind up!!
