  1. I've been using a S400 with a Rowan mag for the last few months. It works ok, but is no substitute for the real thing. I'm in the process of changing my 400 for a 410. Sure, it does the same job, but the 410 is that bit easier. Paul.
  2. Ha ha! You must have been talking to the same bloke.
  3. That may have been my flaw. As I said, it's a kiddys fort thing, about 5 foot off the floor, big wooden jobby.....it's even got a slide, Woo Hoo! However, no doubt the birds would have seen me go in. The rabbit was laid on its side with a good splatter of blood around its head. When you say look natural, do you mean like a live one munching grass? Somebody told me a bird of prey decoy placed over the carcass works. Ever tried that?
  4. Last week my permission owner asked me to sort her crow problem. I managed to stalk and bag a youngster on wednesday, but since then no luck. I changed tactics this morning, snagged a little buggsy and layed him out for all the world to see. I then tucked m'self away in my hidey hole, which is a disused kiddys wooden fort thing, screened myself from the front and waited....and waited...and waited. Nothing. the crows were mooching around the field, well out of range, but refused to come near enough. Even had a couple fly overheadbut showed no interest. The final insult was 3 magpies crashing ar
  5. I've heard of the name and someone has recomended their assortment pellet packs. Never had any dealings though.
  6. Bit hard to distinguish in amongst all those tail feathers. I was out with a mate a while back who took a bunny up the chuff with his .22 rimmy. Made the loudest 'plop' noise, kinda like scooping a large spoon of jelly from a bowl....How we laughed!!
  7. I take the quick reload option, wait a few seconds to see if it's gonna jump up and decamp, give a second shot if it does. If it still wriggles, I will be fast footing over there for a neck stretching.
  8. Thanks for all the replies, heads it is
  9. Hi All, it's no doubt been asked a gazillion times before, but the lady who owns my permission has asked me to, *ahem*, harass some big black birds who are killing all the songbird chicks and scoffing the eggs etc. No doubt crows 'cos I caught one 'inspecting' one of my shot bunnies last time I was there. To the point, with a .177 S400, which is the best option for clean kills? Ta Paul.
  10. 'er indoors is recovering from a broken neck, (horse riding) so she knows more than most about neck pain (no jokes about living with me, or else). She has a cocktail of the following: slow release anti-inflamatory, ibuprofen type of thing. Dihydracodeine, basically kick arse codeine. finally, to complement the codeine, 2 paracetamol. Every 4-6 hours, every day of the week. I've tried this occasionaly, when in constant pain from an old bike injury and it works very well. Makes you pretty mellow too
  11. If the filthy li'l scrotes get in our back garden they get introduced to the greyhound. In the front we have a sonic device which works very well. b*****ds should be kept on leads, or in a cage. An 'aquaintance' once proudly regaled me with a story about how his cat had killed a nesting pair of kingfishers at the bottom of his garden. knob....
  12. I don't bother. I've been stewing it in a slow cooker lately, we don't even notice it.
  13. Right-o everybody, thanks for all the advice. Here's how the last effort went. Shot m'self a nice big bugger, not sure if it was buck or doe. Did the usual then soaked in saline solution overnight. Jointed it, then stuck it in the freezer. Got it out last night to thaw for the slow cooker today. Fried it off with some onion, lobbed it in the slow cooker with a pint and a half of chicken/veg stock. Added spuds, carrotts and parsnip and cooked it for 8hrs. The result was sooo-perb! Even she was impressed. Wasn't quite falling off the bone but came away without much persuasion. Definately be doin
