  1. I would advice people to read posts on the greyhound data about this subject. There is some very good information about manageing dogs diet wise to bring dogs back to as near the same level as possible.

The posts also bring into question the use of recharge and newtradex due to certain substances in the products which can compound the situation.

Something which i have been using with the best of intensions to keep the dogs healthy but something i will be now changing.

This appears to be something that the greyhound circle has been aware of for some time even though some vets are still advocating the use of it.

If you go on greyhound data then forum and onto health section and search acidosis you will find information.

  2. rodenticide strengh is classified by a term called LD50 which is the lethal dose required to kill 50% of mamals being treated.

As i have been instructed a mamal wieghing 5kg in body wieght would have to eat 2kg of bait. This is for external use baits which have active ingredient of difenacoum or bromadiolone.

Internal use only baits based on an active of brodifacom or flocoumafen are a stronger and would require less.

Rodenticides are multiple feed piosons. For the first 4 days rodents feed on them without outward ill effects and then from 4 to 7 days gradually become unwell from blood loss and ultimately by seven days die. This all in theory but from experience these guide lines vary from treatment to treatment.

I fail to see how a pet that has fed on rodenticide once is going to die when you look at the quantity required to kill a mamal weighing 5 kg in body weight and the need for multiple feed.Again this is all in theory and the age and health of the animal can have a bearing.

One of the commest reasons for people failing to succesfully treat rodent infestations is insufficient rodenticide and not rebaiting often enough prooving the need for multiple feed in suffficient quantity.

People are advocating that you induce vomiting and i can see the reasoning behind this but the safety information we give advices not to do this which is i believe advice on the product safety data sheet.

The main thing is the dog is ok and you have had it treated but i question weather a blood transfusion is necessary.

  3. i have recently had a pup vaccinated and was adviced to get a third parvo jab at 16 weeks.

I questioned the vet why the third jab and it was explianed that in some pups the imunity passed on from the mother can interfere with the uptake of initial vaccinations.

The only sure way to check after two vaccinations would be to blood test the dog.It is far cheaper to give the dog a third vaccinaton at 16 weeks which will ensure it is covered.

  4. If it is possible i would advice to get some practicle experience with an experienced technician particularily in relation to the use of insecticides and information you need to give to customers,

Training courses will only teach you so much.

I spent nearly 8 weeks on the job training with other technicians prior to undertaking any treatments which was invaluable experience.

Without this practicle experience you will need to be very carefull what you are doing.

  5. I have a first cross bedi greyhound about 22 1/2 inches he will be 9 this year.

He has been a fantastic dog.

Tough as boot,100% with ferrets and all stock.Good lamping dog.

Getting the right bedlington breeding is the secret and if you do a little research they are still outthere.

  6. I have a first cross bedlington greyhound he will be eight this year.

He has been a cracking dog.

Very obedient, sound with ferrets, all stock, good lamping dog, very very tough, quiet as a mouse in the kennel and cheap to keep.

There is a lad with a litter down at the moment bred from genuine working bedlington which is the key and the bitch advertised on here what some one else has mentioned is also bred out of the real makoy working bedlington with traceable lines to george newcombes rillington strain.

The bitch advertised on here is located in wales.

2 friends have pups booked out of the litter which are about 3 weeks old if you are interested pm me your contact details and i will pass your number on.

There is a bedlington site and there is some good information on there about bedlingtons.

The Bedlington is the key to getting a good dog ensure it is from working stock.

  7. Exactly what has been diagnosed as being wrong with the toe by the greyhound vet.

    I use Richard Thor near the east midlands airport 01 509 50 70 80.

I would advice you if possible to visit him.

The main issue is to correctly diagnose the problem is it bone or is it ligament damage and i can assure you he will do this.

He is very realistic on price not like your pet dog vets.

    ATB.

  8. The activity is wood mice it is something i see all the time on jobs both internal and external. It is a natural instinct for the mice to cover the bait in order to save it for harder times. On commercial jobs the items found has to be seen with trays covered with screws suspended cieling clips all sorts. In domestic lofts trays are often covered totally with insulation.

There is a relationship between rats and mice and when you are seeing mice activity it is a good indicator there is no longer any rat activity.

Do not keep baiting for the sake of it and continue killing mice for no reason and risk secondary piosoning of non target species owls kestrels.

  9. Took bitch to Richard Torr today following running her at weekend and going lame on back leg.

Small tear found in gracilis muscle bitch given thorough check from nose to tail.

Time spent explaining how to manage injury with application of massage solution and how to stretch out muscle manually to get best recovery.

Advice given on time scales to bring back dog and what will take place to injury site.

Advice given on exercise regeme to assist recovery and use of portamag and suplement with fish oils.

£25 for consultation and £25 for tensolvet £61 with vat.

Finding injuries is one thing but as important if not more so is the advice on managing the injury to get the best out come and succesfull recovery.

Every time i have visited Richard i have had a positive visit and the time he takes to explain things excellent.

Worth every single penny of the £61.

  10. British Bulldog do a Spade Called a rabbiting spade with a fibreglass shaft. My mate has one and it is an excellent spade and the shaft is superb. My mate is an animal with a spade and puchased this one after breaking numerous wooden shafted spades. He has had this one for years.just placed an order for one bit expensive £57 but you get what you pay for.

May be a bit narrow bladed for some.

    With a yellow shaft

  11. I think many people are kidding themselves including me when we go to these so called bone men.

I have used grehound vets Plunkit Devil first then Dennis Beary who i believed was trianed by Plunkit and Richard Torr.

When you watch any of these check a dog it has to been seen and the lenght of time taken to check the dog is significant and they never fail to find the injury, undertake treatment and give superb advice on managing the dog to aid succesfull recovery. The price charged is very different from your pet dog vets.

I took a dog to one of these bone men with a toe injury who said the dog was completly sound and he adviced to get it run.

I was not happy with the dog and took it to Richard Torr. The dog had damaged ligaments in the toe and a jiont.

We all try to save a buck especially in the current climate and there is no doubt these bone men are cheap but you only get what you pay for in this world.

This is only my experience and i know a lot of people use these people including some top greyhound trainers so maybe its finding the right man.
