Good for you mate. Too much thoughtless breeding IMHO. I think what Stubby's trying to say is that if the technology is there you should use it. As much for the ferret's sake as for yours. it was more a case of you saying that they didnt use locators years ago, so you dont, and me saying years ago they would'ent have a snipped hob, its not impossible to stop ferts breeding without one, where did I say you couldent use it for ferreting I have snipped and castrated that are used Personally i just dont want a locator,i dont see the point but if i wanted to i will try one

Hey up! Just a wee update from my last topic, this one brings some good news. Lovely day today, the sun was shining, was actually warm today. Tried 1st 2 sets, nothin so we shifted to another feild and BINGO got 2 bolts and 2 rabs bagged!! There a lovely size at the moment. Started gutting them and forgot about taking some pictures, Next time i will get some pics up!! FM

Bad start and a reasonable good ending. Well done!! ATB for next time

a contradiciting statement if you ask me, you say its ok to use ferts like they did 30yrs ago, yet admit to having a snipped hob, surely something they wouldent have done 30yrs ago, yes years ago the ferreted without locators, but ask WHY I would imagine because they did'nt have the money, it was more to put food on the table, than a pastime as it is now, back then money did'nt come easy, christ some people that live off the state get more money than me as a full time worker, so you cant even really use money as an excuse, at the end of the day though, its horses for courses, you have y

Nah i didnt loose it pal, the returned no probs!

i agree with u pal. But im no one to want a locator, takes the fun out the game i think. Ferreting is a waiting game. More oftern than not my ferrets come out they work the holes pretty well and they give you a sure sign nobody is home under ground cos they pop back up right away! Before i think about buyin a collar i would like to see one in use to see the difference. Have you noticed any differnce with the way they work While wearin a collar? FM

OK im listening to u all, i wont put a muzzel on and still im not getting a locator!! Wether u think im greedy or not, thats just a stupid statement may i add cos what did people do in the days before a locator...people seem to forget a ferret is bread for this kinda stuff and if let go into wild it will still continue to go down burrown and catch rabbits themselves. Where would a ferret sleep in the wild? More oftern than not down a burrow...? best place for them in the wilsd away from predators....haha snakes in the middle of winter in scotland...deary me man!! Right am away, i know what i

Nah i still dont wanna use a locator there way to expensive, and like a fella said on here they will come out eventually. The burrow was only a 2 holer and there wasnt any other rabbits in there or they would of bolted [bANNED TEXT] i left them that day. Whats wrong with blocking the ferret in over night? Its only 6 hours or so? i wasnt going to forget about them. And they were perfectly fine the next morning. Its better than loosing to perfectly good workers. FM

Yea i wasnt too keen on the idea of muzzels either but i thought it would be an easy solution. Anyway if i had got one i dont think i would even manage to get it on him. Aye alot of people say why dont i get a locator since i have a vesectimised hob, reason is cos i dont see the point in them. They can too go wrong. Come off the ferret or somthing. But Anyway i stuffed turf in both holes to block them in over night, i arrived to the spot this morning, something had been diggin at one hole and had left it wide open to the world at 1st i thought NOWAY....this is gettin to be a joke. But No i g

Aye well i did that too, but neither of the ferrets came back out so i know they have been fed, will fetch them back in the morning! Thats twice my hob has layed up i may need muzzle the bugger lol FM

Ahh lovely day today so went a long walk with my lurcher, thought about going ferreting soo that was the plan (not knowin i was going to get hailed upon!) Well me and my mate took to the feilds, found some good holes, ferret down, 2 bolted grrr!! Then we saw the 3rd bolt and go down another burrow, so we took to the burrow knowing the rabbit was down. 20 mins past, rabbit squealing - ferret had it by the head n pulled it back down the hole - i thought NOWAY!! Still im at home now after being snowed upon n hailed- shoved loads of turf in the entries of the burrow and will b returning there in

How many pups did she have!? Congrats btw!! FM

i dont see the point in locators. I have never used one yet. Just a waste of money in my eyes. Aye there handy, but like you say [bANNED TEXT] happens when they fall off ur stuffed then - not completely cos a good ferret will pop up every now n then to check whats goin on and better when a rabbit bolts it should pop up. FM

Most o the snow has gone here too lol. Man u got some waitin to do for that to thore out! yikes i thought my kneck of the woods was bad - south scotland. Just the ground is really hard . FM

Mine are both fed on Pets at home ferret biscuits. Goes down well in this weather. Plus my ferrets dont let it sit for long enough to let it freeze!! lol FM -

thanks for the advice lads i only slipped her on two and she nailed them easy so i think she coped with the harder rabbits just fine but she is still young so thats why she only had two runs and home and that will be her for atleast 2 -3 month i just took her oot as a wee tester to see how she coped and she exceded my expectation
