Its plain to see that a  lot of people have been affected by this debilitating illness, and its quiet clear its not a sickness youd wish on your worst enemy,,I will give you folks a little idea of how it affected my Sis...My sis was 23 when she was struck down with it,just out of the blue she folded like a deck of cards ,before that time she was a very accomplished classical spanish guitarist, she was trained by  a top instructor, she even got trials for the RTE Symphony Orchestra.her guitar teacher told my parents if she kept progressing at the rate she was going she would be a very accomplished musician,..manys an evening we as a family sat in our very run down and humble little house to listen to her play,,and her greatness was obvious to us all,she could play the church organ ,like a pro also,,you know the organs with the bige pipes and 3 sets of keyboards ? well she played at weddings ,and was a dinger on the piano and her musical talents knew no bounds ,and after all the years of learning  and practice ,she one day had a breakdown, and was hospitalised and 12 months later she was a shadow of her former self ,never again to pick up the guitar..in fact I still have it here in its original case ..she will not even look at it now ..she was housebound for a good few years as she was diagnosed as a schizophrenic, and after a very long time we persuaded her to go out for a short walk on her own just around the block, and unbelievably she was mugged and her purse stolen by a local cnut,17 years old ,...and she was set back again for another long while

where she lives now they have classes for lots of subjects ,silly little matters that give the residents a sense of achievement ,and there was a class there for learning the harp..a half sized version ,and she took it on board ,and after 4 weeks she could knock out songs that she knew from years ago ,the instructor was gobsmacked but she hasnt the concentration to keep at it any more but shes as happy as she ever will be ,and safe, warm and fed ..cant ask for anything more ,we visit her every week and she comes home for the day at easter ,x mass and other functions but is not comfortable outside her room , its been a long traumatic life for everyone at times but weve come to a good ending ,

This illness can rip a family and their hearts to pieces ,its one of the worst sickness to experience and you feel totally helpless nearly all of the time ..dont ever think its a trivial thing ,,it can have many layers in a person and just when you think its getting better it becomes a  whole lot worse and one cant understand why or see it coming ,that is the sad and frightening thing about depression  ..

Liam she clearly has a good family behind her , lovely to read she has shown an interest in an instrument again even if it was for a short while x

I think you are right Kay...

You need to have a project,..something that is all consuming,... I do have one on the go, but I lack the confidence to get it finished...

    Maybe tomorrow, eh...?

I do tend to finish most things Phil, its usually running out of materials that stops me , I am quite obsessed once I get going but the downside to these episodes is the compulsion to start another project, the charity shop over the road is a god send for bits & pieces

  3. I use this craft to beat manic episodes , I tend not to get the lows , maybe the odd few days when I think everyone's out to get me or my families in danger , but for me making stuff seems to be the easiest way to fill time & stop me being negative, it might work for people with depression because you have an end product ... I also find using a walking tracker , so I set my phone up to count my steps while I am at work & I find myself wanting to do more steps the next day

Kay have you tried those valerian root pills?

We had a dog that could be be a bit of a cnut with others, years ago. Vet said to try it, half human dose in its food everyday. Seemed to work but you have to watch out for lethargy. If the dog seems lethargic then reduce the dose ;)

As for moulting, I have to vacuum everyday or I start to get a white carpet on my tiled floors

I have heard of  skullcap & Valerian , I will have a look online for some reviews.. I am willing to try anything to be brutally honest, i will have a look at these Valerian root pills as well.. I have been looking at these adaptil collars but there very pricey & only last a month

As it happens kay she is white aswell  , think ill get a black one next time ?

Were pretty much the same , she lives in the kitchen/outhouse but they still get everywhere

    surprised shes not bald ?

This dog has developed a stressy personality , its been quite full on in the last 4 or 5 weeks... she is 18 month old & I am hoping its a teenage thing & she will settle again... she is no fan of other dogs either so my dog walks a wee bit of a challenge at the min I have had a staffy cross before & she was a strange but loveable wee thing but this bull cross is on another level .. anyway back to moulting ...I was looking into ways of lessening stress in dogs & one of the symptoms is excessive shedding of hairs

  7. Anything that knocks Katie Price off the front pages is fine by me ... its always nice news to hear of an impending birth...good luck to them they look very happy ... its no secret they both wanted to start a family & given her age she had to get cracking ... ?

  8. my new phone told me yesterday i would have a 3 min delay on my way home from work... christ knows how it does it... must track my movements as i get an alert at 7.20 pm telling me if the roads clear ? or not but not on the weekend.... its mad.... when i got out of work tonight the road had been cordened off outside my work as the water board had to sort a burst pipe out

they dont need to hack or tap folks phones now like that Murdock fiasco a few yrs ago

  9. I have got the one that zooms out 60x you do need a tripod to be able to get moon shots that aren't blurry , having used this sort of camera & a dslr I seriously think the image quality of even an entry level dslr is way better, it makes no difference to me now as a rarely take photos these days , but these zoom compact things are good to stick in your coat pocket on a dog walk

  10. To expect anyone to look after dementia patients in a home environment is a huge ask,its not as simple as just making sure they are dressed & fed & any meds administered, a lot are doubly incontinent , you have to sleep sometimes so unless you have a dedicated army of helpers its near impossible .

Sometimes the decision is taken out of familys hands by social services if they cant provide the level of care needed ?

I remember the days before tv remotes when you had the buttons on the telly, my old man had a long pea stick he used to push the button for itv & the bbc1 button used to pop back out? so he was ahead of his times?

30 yrs ago i had a twin tub washer i dragged it out on a Friday night & did a weeks washing .. whites & lights first & work clobber last ... be at it about 3 hours? & my one had the electronic mangle on the top my mother in law gave it to me ... I also had a spin drier that was for getting the washing rung out even more .

Same as me, have nothing to do with my family, and only got a couple of mates. Only one problem, I don't do the lottery.

I  don't do any lottery and never had so I  am hardly likely to win a life changing amount of money?
