Disappearing bunnies
perthshire keeper replied to gollum's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
hmm now its odd you should say that we had over 50 last week in one night and the same numbers the week before and me and 2 other keepers went out up at his ground (millden grouse moor) and got almost 300 in one night with shotguns so i cant see how you have come up with one or two then the rest run off maybe if the ground only holds a few rabbits then yeh but a 100 plus on the headlands you will be looking at more than one of two mate -
i for one love gibbet lines used to hvae one at the farm i worked on this estate is to modern and we have a lot of dog walkers about so its not the best thing to do but i do like to see them
-
i have found i can still get a shot in bad weather most of the times but you realy have to have your wits about you as its been said it can get up close. also you could youse the weather to your advantage if its raining real hard for a day or two have a realy good stalk morning and night when the weather clears up as they will have been in cover on tick over mode and will take the chance to fill overe their bellies when the weather calms down agen good luck

Other Rabbit Control Methods?
perthshire keeper replied to glass22's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
FENN TRAPS AND CAGE TRAPPING, HE WANTS TO GET THE NUMBERS DOWN, NOT CATCH 1 OR 2 AT A TIME.... YOU'D GET MORE THROWING STONES......... ime sorry my man but i have to disagree with you their fenn traps are very good at trapping rabbits its easy to get 6/7 rabbits out of 10 traps one in each hole of fill in all the holes losely then trap the ones that have been opend out .... all thou this will also be very hard to do as the holes are under a hedge -

mud / road tyres . what to go for ?
perthshire keeper replied to chimp's topic in 4x4's, Quads & ATV's
I wont go by BF Goodrich mud terrains mate. Great off road tyre, no road noise and you get 50,000 out of them. Not sure of prices but would imagine a set of 4 would set you back £450-500. mee to we have them on my L200 and the head keepers landy i realy cant foult then and they make your truck look mean put a set of bulls on it and some fog lamps and mad max would look just [bANNED TEXT] behind the wheel -
thanks ferret feller, saved me typing but if you were looking at you traps with you gun and dog and went to shoot it and the door some how came open and the rat made a break for it and the dog got it then that cant be helped ehh

i dont realy like trophy stalking to be honest i would much rather it be left alone to spred its seed while its still a good beast ( thats if its not old and buggard all ready) then cull it as i would any normal buck.. so thats a no from me i wouldent pay that
