  1. Have two Boys and two Girls primary school age, go live in a village surrounded by farms heaving with Rabbits.

get them into the local village primary school, your kids will pal up with local farmer kids, you go to all school events, where you will mix with the local Farmers and Wife's, bingo, tell them you are looking for ferreting permission.

You will soon have as much permission you can shake a stick at.:thumbs::victory:

  2. If the weather is nice, ha ha, you can drive through Glencoe which is stunning, make yourself to Oban, then get the ferry to Mull, and finish of your holiday staying in the hotel on Iona, beautiful wee island with a lot of history, the ferry from Mull to Iona only takes 20 mins, you go as a foot passenger, cars not allowed on the island.

But as i said all depends if you get a decent weather break.

  3. I know its different down South, we have the SNP, and it looks like Labour in Scotland are in for a big shock, and the Cons and libs are a no no, up here.

if i was down South i certainly would not be voting Lab, Con, or lib, they need a big kick in the teeth, i have never known the public to be so fed up. and i agree with last post, for that labour person on question time to say Labour have apologized for getting immigration wrong, the whole lot involved should have been sacked and booted out.

you also need to get rid of that giant gravy train, known as the House Of Lords, i was listening to PMs questions, and never mind the booing, and hear hears, there was someone making mooing noises, what fecking planet do these people come from.

And can you imagine that Labour MPs still feel Millipead is the man to run the Country, when the general public cant stand him.

  4. Cant believe that on prime time television tonight we have Mary Berrys absolute Xmas favourites.

Years ago all cooking and baking programmes would be on in an afternoon slot,

Why don't these people just retire, her face appears to be everywhere, then we have the British sew in,, Strictly come dancing, Xfactor, and that horrible pair Ant and Deck

who should be dropped by helicopter into a real jungle, and with a bit of luck never to be seen again.

    rant over.

  5. mary kings close, they discovered under buildings in Edinburgh streets, that remained in tact, at the time of the plaque.

you are taking round, and told all the history, also the ghost tours Mercat tours are the best, you are taking round all the old closes in the City, classed as ghost tours, they are more of actual gruesome historical events, tales of English being nailed by the lugs, (ears) to the tollbooth door, and lots of tales of hangings and torture, the one we were on the Lady taking the tour was excellent. lasted a while and was well worth the money.

  6. How to ferret hedgerows, is one of the more popular threads,, as they are all different, some have a fence at the back, some a fence through the middle, there's a lot of different methods when dealing with hedgerows, but all the ferreting dvds or on Youtube, seem to be about ferreting moorland, where its a case of a dog marking, and the purse nets being put on, rabbit bolting, maybe time someone like Simon Whitehead put up a dvd of all methods when dealing with hedges.

  7. I use a Jack Pyke handlers vest, can get 20+nets in each pocket, used it for the last 3 seasons its cracking ,think it was about £40,its well made and takes plenty of hammer, still looks well and we don't have nice open buries like the Yorkshire lads :whistling: its all blackthorn, brambles etc on hands and knees :gunsmilie::D

Northern Lad i have one, but hardly used it, its as stiff as a board, does a wash soften it a bit, or do you just have to give it plenty wear?

  8. one of the local golf courses i go on, has a new fence, double stranded barb on top, but a foot and a half behind it is the old fence with a single strand on top, a bad un,

mines is just a rabbiting dog, and i would rather the bunny escaped, and he will take me back to the bury its popped down, and i can ferret it, rather than have vet bills, usually when a rabbit goes through a fence, it will escape anyway, unless it was open ground.

  9. Theres lots of choices out there, i think although its great to see a dog bowling them over, when it comes to ferreting a marking dog is a priority, a good marker will save time, and put far more rabbits in the bag, some of you may know, I prefer the beddy cross, always found them to have a good nose, but most dogs will mark, in fact i know a toy Poodle that will mark occupied burys,

A farm i go to is putting out in lamb sheep out in his fields, and wont be wanting a dog on, my ferreting mate suggested we ferret it without a dog, but that's a no no for me, I could not imagine ferreting without my best pal, and loading up with ferreting gear, and leaving him at home, I have done it years ago, and as Phil says it can end up pretty boring.

I remember years ago a Keeper offered me ferreting on a whole estate, moving with rabbits, one condition, no dogs, I turned him down.

All the best with your choice, for the ferreting game i like a dog with Whippet in it, and Bedlington, but collie would also be good.
