  3. I keep my dogs outside on a farm in kennels, there kennels are 4ftx4ft with a 10ft x 5ft run, fully insulated and filled with straw. Last week I looked into heat lamps, after a bit of research mainly on poultry sites I bought 3 x 250 watt heat lamps (1 for each kennel) Today I fitted them and was amazed at the amount of heat that actually comes out of them, after about half an hour I could actually put my head in the kennels and feel the heat. I normally put kennel coats on my dogs but took them off tonight because of the lamps, I want to know if anyone else uses these and there though
  4. looks like a great day, well done, love the pics!!!!
  5. Just finished cooking the pheasant breast and they are not as tasty as the pigeon but they are still nice, the bacon definately helps, its not as good as chicken but when you think a free range chicken breast cost from £1.20 - £2.50 its not bad for 50p a breast!!!! cheers
  6. Yesterday I skinned and debreasted 8 pheasants, all i use is the breast and the thigh, plus I had 3 pigeons, only took me about 20 mins to do the lot and it only cost me £8.00, £1 a bird and the pigeons for free. I have just cooked 3 pigeon breasts for lunch, they are very dark coloured meat, just put a bit of olive oil in a pan and gently fry them with salt and pepper, they taste lovely! Not very gamey at just a pleasant flavour, I also have 2 pheasant breasts wrapped in Bacon in the oven as I write this, I will post back shortly and let you know what there like!
  7. I feed mine wafcol greyhound dry food with meat (chicken/lamb/beef/pork/hare/rabbit/venison, what ever is available or they catch) I also throw in some cooked veg mainly carrots/celery and tinned tomatoes plus mixed vitamins why do some people not mix meat and dry? Wafcol is dry but i always add hot water and serve them a warm dinner, feed them once a day, they might get a pigs ear in the morning for a treat! dont mean to sound stupid but what does barf stand for?

  14. I agree with heart of wales, I myself have taken on a couple older dogs and apart from the very first dog I bought they have always had one problem or another and I end up stuck with them cos I am to soft to get rid of them! People vastly underestimate the time needed for a working dog, I have mine in kennels and they still need to be walked, cleaned out and fed every day which at its quickest takes an hour and a half to two hours. I have a 9 year old dog who I have had since a pup who now has a constant limp due to various injurys, he does not work just walks with the others, some da

  19. Hey there just wanted to know how different people condition there dogs? I know we are right in the middle of the season but do you just keep them fit from work or do you have a specific regime for specific quarry? I try and Lamp once or twice a week, I run them once a week in the daytime and then just give them genreal walks or a 5 mile bike ride at jogging pace once or twice a week. Currently my dogs are injured and cant run for a few weeks which is why I have the time to come on here! lol! I was sent a PM a few years back of how the coursing lads from the forley cup days used to
  20. I went on a game preparation/cookery day at River Cottage HQ got it as a Christmas Present, it started at 10am on a Saturday Morning, they started with a Fallow Deer which they skinned and butchered, there was about 25 of us there so you get a good view and its all up close and you can ask questions. If you watch River Cottage or read any of the cookery books Hugh Fernley Whittingstal's main butcher is a guy called Ray, he is the one who teaches the day. As they butchered the Venison they cook the liver in a little oil which was lovely! The venison is shot locally on a nearby estate where
