  3. Will a harris just mainly take rabbits? Are they not quick enough for a pheasant
  4. I got told never to start learning your dog with pigeon because the feathers come off to easy you might have to keep him away from the pigeon to get him keen at retrieving game again i know the shooting season has finished but a teal is a good size bird to get them retrieving with
  5. cheers mate what would be the main differents be with the gos?, a mate of mine has a bop center and he says gos's are just as easy as a harris? at the moment it is a toss up between a fhh and red tail, i would like a bit of an all rounder taking rabbit, hare and pheasent wich would you go for? thanks bigwig i aint got a hawk yet but i read some books and been on forums and they say dont start with a goshawk or falcon they are meant to be much harder work to man!
  6. The good thing about cockers is you could put a dozen of them in your boot in still have room They do tend to get affected by the wet weather quicker with being so wee
  7. Ive always fancied a vizla or gsp for beating they are both strapping looking dogs
  8. good advice if your beating and your dog sees a wabbit its on to the next beat cos your dogs charged through and scattered the birdies!!!!
  9. i wouldnt use a pointer if your going to be in a beating line. they range too far, there bred for open grouse moors and best suited to walk and shoot/rough shooting. a spaniel is your best bet for what you want, can hunt, flush and retrieve, the best allrounder. a lab can work well in a beating line but their not as good as a spaniel in cover. if your mainly interested in picking up then get a Lab 'wrong mate... theres a big difference between a pointer/setter and a hpr the gwp's and vizslas are a more versatile breed theyre bred to range closer and work tighter they cover more groun
  10. is there an hpr that is a multi purpose dog ie you can use down the shore beating and in the moor???
  11. do vizlas do well picking up and retrieving??
  12. Thanks guys i look forward to picking your brains in the very near future :D
