To load or not too load!?
varminter replied to Grousekeeper84's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Quite agree with Mr_Logic here!!! I have been reloading for quite a while now and all that i have hunted with my centrefire rifles , has been taken with my reloads!!! When you find a load that works well you can rely on that load to perform , the expense of buying a box of different makes of around £25 plus a box , gets very expensive ( and plus you reuse the brass ) ... Then if you find something that works , they have a different batch at a later date ( of the same make / load ammo ) and you will probably find it shoots different!!!! My advise is , if you are starting off reloading , f -
To be honest that would be even worse. I don't know many farmers that a) want the police knowing their buisiness, and appreciate midnight calls just to confirm there isn't a problem. Farmers don't want issues like that and would lead to the loss of shooting rights, so the police would probably be very happy to take that option up Totally understand your comment buddy and agree about how farmers feel!!!! ;) What i am trying to get at is that you have informed the land owner and have every legal right to be out there lamping!! But heres the thing , if you choose to notify the

This does not sound very good does it!!! The more information you give it seems the more they want!! , and there is still no guarantee they wont turn up!!! Its funny when you do all the right things as in telling the land owner that you plan to go out lamping bunnies / Fox , then someone hears a shot and are worried so phone the police , the police take details as in area they are talking about!! Now the police and their computer system which should be telling them who is the land owner with address and probably phone number too!! So why on earth dont they phone the land owner who would t

I have read on a Varminting web site about the love affairs going on with secondhand Mauser actioned Paker-Hale .308's, they do seem very accurate from what people are saying. Atb, ft Hi mate , The above quote is very true!!!! ;) I have been fortunate to shoot 3 different Parker Hale TX1200s , a M83 and skanys M84 and all i can say is that they shoot fantastic!!!! :D All the best................. Thanks for that James!!! Nice photo too!!! , i did see a BSA Monarch for sale a while ago chambered in 6.5-284 which i was tempted with!! I have often heard that people say that the Parker Hales don't shoot!! , they must of not of been talking about the target models because i know of another 4 ( TX1200S / M83 / M4 ) and they all shoot just as well...... :D All the best........................ Out with the Parker Hale!!!
varminter replied to varminter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks for the reply v-max!!! The rifle is not as heavy as it looks!! , like i have mentioned , its a barrel should over a medium weight tube and this is made of alloy!!! I hunt with these weight rifles too because of the dependable accuracy!! This is just a personal view but ever since i was a young hunter , hunting with quite heavy German made rifles , i have found when shouldering a rifle with a heavier weight i seem to be more steadier - feels more planted!! All the best............... RAY....................................... Yep. I was really talking about replacing the -
Out with the Parker Hale!!!
varminter replied to varminter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
No apology needed mate! Cheers for that! I've shot the Nato 7.62 at extended ranges, but can't imagine the old SLR being anywhere near as accurate as that..............not really designed for it, after all. I don't homeload any of my own rounds. I have a .22lr & .17hmr............I don't find I use the .17 enough to benefit from reloading, but after reading your post I might reconsider that thought though! Be interesting to see the difference between a factory round for it & a few carefully-thought out homeloads! Got a bit of research to do, it looks like!!!! Thanks for -

All home loaded mate , Cases are fully prepped ( no neck turn ) Load is.......... 44 grains of Varget CCI Benchrest primers 155 A-max bullet............. Just picked up a new phone with Windows on it , so i just downloaded PC Exbal on it!!! Thanks , The answer to you question is , yes i do like the challenge because it proves that all the time that is spent working up accurate reloads and testing them on paper at different ranges , in different wind / conditions can be used for accurate shooting at the longer ranges!! I use a rangefinder and windmeter and when -

Thanks fellas!!!! Its great that the farmers son is keen!! , i did explain what goes into making shots at extended range and he was very interested!!! All the best........................ RAY.......................................... -
I was talking to Mr Logic on his thread " Shall I turn my 204 into a 22-250? " , and then it got onto talk about 243 / 308!! I did not want to take over the thread with chat about the Parker Hale 7.62s!! , so i have opened a new thread I mentioned that the Parker Hale target models ( TX1200 / M84 / M83 ) are very good shooters for the money!!! 4 months ago i purchased a Parker Hale TX1200 in 7.62!! for £200 , my other friends own another 2 TX1200s / a M84 and a M83!! They are all true sub half inch @100yds rifles with the same specified load... I said that i would keep you u

Shall I turn my 204 into a 22-250?
varminter replied to Mr_Logic's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Sorry buddy!!!! Its just in these times when money is tight , its nice to see you can get some sweet shooting rifles for your money!!! They may not be modern rifles but as you can see - they shoot well........ Like i have mentioned , i fully prep cases ( cut all cases to same length / debur flash holes / cut primer pockets to same depth / debur inside-outside case mouth ) so every case is the same!!! So its just down to what the rifle likes , The rifle has a 1 in 14 twist so it performs best with the 155 grain bullets!! All the best,................... RAY............................... -
Shall I turn my 204 into a 22-250?
varminter replied to Mr_Logic's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Was a slight wind that day when the lads was shooting some groups with their 7.62s / 308s , when it was my turn the wind dropped to nothing hence the group!!! Like i said fellas , not a bad buy - just make sure you strap a decent scope on to make the most of that rifle / reloads!! Hope you do not mind me talking about Parker Hales , i heard that some people say they did not shoot!! Could not of been talking about the Target series , like i have mentioned - have friends who own 4 and they are all great shooting rifles!! Shall I turn my 204 into a 22-250?
varminter replied to Mr_Logic's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I am using a Leupold VX3 8-25-50 , very repeatable dialing for the longer ranges!!!! I use a Leupold M4 6.5-20-50 on my 6PPC , very dialable too - so much so it has enabled me hits on small varmints out to the 500yd mark!!! Its early days with the 7.62 but heres some results so far.................... And some longer range testing................. Windless day at 335yds And some groups at 500yds.................. Not too bad for a £200 rifle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D All the best............... RAY...................................................... -

44 grains of Varget CCI Benchrest primers 155 A-max Cases fully prepped ( apart from no neck turn ) My buddies load and its safe and works well in the other 7.62s ......... I have seen this load / rifles make first round hits well past 500yds on target / varmints..... All the best............... RAY...................................
