  1. I was hoping you'd say that. Well, an online review showed just that. The bb did separate on impact. But even with that, a regular pellet penetrated much farther, at the same time imparting more energy, being heavier than the Rockets. An interesting find was that the tiny bb's attached to the end of these pellets were of such good quality that they can make better products in itself! Wonder when Gamo would wake up to that. As far as I see, Gamo has always been interested in impressing the pants off of new shooters. The first time shooter usually looks for the highest velocity figur
  2. That ad was under a lot of criticism for being unsporting and encouraging dangerous behaviour. I mean, who'd be retarded enough to shoot a hog with a .177?! That's just cruel. I wouldn't shoot a hog with my .22! I haven't used them. Though most people who have, dont seem to like their accuracy. However, reviews are mixed. Some people seem to be getting great groups with them. But Gamo seems to be enveloped in controversy all the time these days. First the Hog ad, then the claim that the Rockets have improved penetration AND shock transmission. I mean those two ends of the spectrum rig
  3. Lol.. 5" at 17 yards?! I hate the fancy pellets. You must try the Gamo raptor. I haven't seen a worse pellet! But velocities are great though. But you wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it!
  4. H&N makes some great pellets. I haven't tried the AA fields though. Hey that red box in the pic. That's from Crosman right? I remember using similar pellets in my Crosman 1008 Repeat Air. The box came free as part of the package but I couldn't find them being sold separately.
  5. Wonder how I missed that! I have a review of the HW100 lying at home (Airgun World) I'll see of he suggests any pellets and let you know tomorrow. What pellets have you tried already? I love domed pellets for all round use. They have sufficient penetration too. But I'm not sure of hunting at ~ yards with a 12ft/lb rifle. Will they carry enough energy downrange?
  6. After playing around with a lot of pellets and power settings I found this to be the best setting for accuracy with maximum power. But you're perfectly right, 800-900fps is usually the best bet for power with accuracy. I haven't tried the Piledrivers. They're not available here. Though it weighs 30 grains, I feel it wont be accurate at supersonic velocities. I dont know for sure though. The Prometheus brand is interesting though. That guy does a lot of continual research and improves his products all the time. I believe he came up with a much better option after Piledrivers. Dont r
  7. Average 980fps for the first 10 shots. That's not at full power. I'm a believer of the sub-sonic pellet school..
  8. Congrats to you mate! Condolences to the rabbits! :-)
  9. I can only dream of grouping at 70 to yards! Heck I have a hard time keeping a tight group at 50 yards. But I can plink cans at yards. And the easiest of my guns to do it with is the .22 Condor. It makes approximately 45ft/lbs with 21 grain pellets. The condor can make 60+ft/lbs with the extra heavy Eun Jin pellets. But I haven't used those. These guns have heavy potential. Once at an exhibition in Dubai, a guy had one that was tuned to deliver over 90ft/lbs with custom pellets. Look at the Quackenbush, that thing will make the condor look like a toy! So air rifles can do it
  10. Hi Phantom, I'm pretty sure that the 8ft/lbs rifle can take a rabbit out at 10-15 yards. A friend of mine uses a ratcatcher that makes roughly the same power to drop rabbits at those distances. But it doesn't happen that often. Not because the gun cant. But him making it within 15 yards of a rabbit is a rare thing! But again, it depends on the pellet you're using. I've taken a crow at 30 yards using my Crosman 1377. I believe that makes much less power than yours. But it was a crow. Check the penetration and accuracy at 20-25 yards. You must be good with the placement since you ask
  11. Personally I stick to .22 for hunting. For the simple reason that .22 will do 'considerably' more damage than a .177. So even if you miss the killzone by a bit (I sometimes do) , you still get a humane one shot kill. But if you're a really good shot, calibre wont matter to you. Also, I've seen that .177 tends to over penetrate at times (FAC) and sometimes even pass clean through. If this shot is a miss then the quarry will suffer a lot. Not that this doesn't happen with .22. But its lesser at distances of 25 yards or above. But this is a discussion that will last as long as people shoo
  12. Thats a vague question mate! lol.. For what rifle? And what is long range for you? I find medium grain domed pellets the best for my long range needs. (40-55 yards with an FAC rated rifle). They can probably shoot a lot farther, but I cant make any decent groups beyond that! If its for plinking, these are good for 70 maybe yards and if you don't care about groups, even 100 yards with a light pellet! Mo.
  13. I've tried loading pellets backwards and it works absolutely fine out to 15 yards. The funny thing is that Hollow points are best for being loaded backwards. Perhaps the hollow head acts like a skirt! Domed heads performed the worst, wadcutters were good, but tumbled a lot. At 15 yards, an FAC rated air rifle will expand a reverse loaded pellet so much that you'd be shocked! But its best to try out different pellets and see how they perform when loaded backwards. The same process as finding a pellet which performs well when loaded right! lol.. Another thing you can try is to ma
  14. I use a laser on my Condor. The laser is zeroed for 10 yards and the scope for 30. As for them being useful, its a personal thing. But its always useful having multiple aimpoints. Especially if your scope cannot focus down to short distances. At night I doubt the use though as the laser is sure to spook the quarry. Mo.
  15. Thanks Johnbaz! Your HW80 looks sweet. Don't get it reblued. This has an identity of its own. But do get some sorta plating done to protect it. Nickel perhaps? Hey Spike, Thanks mate, see if you have any old gun lying around unused. Give it a go and you'll love the results! Thanks Timelord! Its shoots sweeter than it looks. The Venom does make a difference! A big one at that! Hey Adeyhawk, I'm sure it will! Do post the pics. You getting it done in black or camo? Targa, you honestly liked the stock?! You're the second person to say that. I couldn't stand the looks.. Thanks L
  16. Thanks guys! Jackoleeds, nope, I work with Dell..
  17. Hi Everybody! I recently bought a Diana 52 from a mate of mine. The gun came with a Venom kit installed but the stock was not too attractive and the barrel had lost its bluing. Being heavily inclined towards DIY projects :-) I decided to do something about it. Before we go into the works, here's the config: Custom tuned with V-Mach Venom Kit. Custom Silencer with Added Barrel Weight. Bushnell Legend 5-15 X 40 MilDot Reticle Scope Uncle Mike’s Quick Detachable Swivel and Studs. Remington Leather Sling. Here's a before shot of the gun: Notice the buttpad in the f
