  1. Right just so i get things right, can every woman on the forum please state if your good looking, with sexy curves and has a slim fit body that most men would drool over.

Or are you a pie eating monster that has a face that looks like a slapped arse.

This way i will know which ones to pursue and those to avoid.

    Cmon spill the beans :11:

    P.s I know MOLLY is sexy already :icon_redface: :11:

    Yeh,.Molly is a babe,.and she cooks a mean breakfast ;)

  2. A fairly concise and erudite reply there LOCKE :clapper:

That being said,...it IS difficult for lads who desire a Collie lurcher to find a litter..

Its often a case of being in the know and hearing about a litter of pups before they are gone.

Commercial breeders of dogs have always catered for guys who don't get the nod,..this is how they make their money. Its a situation that has proved satisfactory for decades, and I doubt very much if it will ever change. What has absolutely ASTOUNDED me is,...the sheer amount of puppies that have been purchased from such establishments over the last couple of decades,...it really is quite incredible :blink:

Advertising obviously works... ;) Life goes on,... :11: :11:

Just bred two litters of Collie x Greys...Used a nice big strong Red Collie Sire... ;)

I think there are a few pups still left,..kenneled in Wales...

All the best to ALL crosses,...CHALKWARREN ;)

  3. Its a terrible thing to be scared,...I've been there myself on several occasions ;)

However,..for an animal that CANNOT reason or work out what the feck is going on,.it must be torture

In my experience,.this situation generally gets worse as the animal gets older...

Trying to make a load of noises and desensitize the critter to loud bangs and crashes works ok with young dogs, but once an adult critter gets the fear in his head, it rarely helps matters,..just freaks the fecker out even more. I used to have a handy sort of whippet x kelpie bitch. She was very good at the ferreting game, but had a thing about thunder ,.fireworks,.loud bangs,.you name it. I used to work her with a shotgun and it never bothered her,..it was the 'whizz-bang' of the rockets that upset her. AS for thunder,.she could sense that a storm was brewing hours ahead of it actually hitting...She would leap/jump or crawl over ridiculously high fences and disappear for a few days,..god knows where ? When locked in a room for her own protection she would go round the walls like a mad thing and knock pictures off and even tear the lampshades out!. Poor wee devil. I've seen many similar cases and it hurts just watching them...

Personally,.I would speak to your Vet...

  4. Just another earner for Pat!. :11:

:11: Don't think there is an 'earner' in doing vids and Dvds anymore mate,... :D

Their life span is in mere hours at best,...They are copied and sold off fairly sharpish...

I think the way forward (££££) must be in the written word.... :drink:

  5. Its no consolation Dodger,.but,.I'm pleased to see and hear so many genuine words from lurcher enthusiast regarding your loss. Such an action gives me hope for the future of lurcher work...

Many of us have lost running dogs,..but very few have been able to share our grief with others.

I've lost a LOT of lurcher dogs...It happens. Only a post mortem will reveal the truth regarding your pal's demise,..personally,.I'd let it lie.. ;) I'm no terrier man (far too soft),.but I've been privileged to know some of the legendary characters in that dangerous world,.and to a man they all tell me that when such things occur,.it is best to 'move on',.. ;) Walk on mate,.remember your pup,.you ain't the first and my god,.you sure as hell won't be the last. Better to of lived the life of a Tiger ,.even for a short while ;)

All the best to you and yours,.PL. ;)

  6. I dont think he has wriiten a single book.........an occasional chapter may be his but most of the books are full of other peoples dogs, experiances and knowledge.... :11:

His first book is all about his own eperiences. I grant you the second one is an amalgamation of other peoples tales with his own, but its still bloody good reading, and photos, and miles better than Plummer :clapper:

    I ain't read a hunting book in a long time,.maybe I should...

I remember 'proof reading' a few of Plummer's manuscripts years ago..

He used to write in a strange type of script,.almost italics, and it was extremely difficult to read his words.

The photography today is streets ahead of the early times. With modern digital cameras it would seem to be far easier to obtain decent image's , (and the fact that you don't have to take the photos to be developed must also help ;) More books the better I've always thought. Its obvious that young lads want to read em.

Personally,.I think anyone who bites the bullet and risks their hard earned vonger on a book writing project is to be applauded,...From what folk tell me,..(the actual book sellers and distributors),..there is not a lot of financial reward ,.unless your a best selling author of course, and however genuine and realistic your words are, jealous ridicule and unjust criticism from troubled souls is fairly certain to follow,.sooner or later..

I think writing books is a very personal thing,..you have to have a reason for doing it....

All the best to ALL crosses,...regards,...CHALKWARREN... :)

  7. Anyone out there still use any of these? What do you think of them compared to the Fenn Mark 6 and the Magnum 116 Bodygrip?

The Fenn Mk 6 was designed to catch rabbits in their burrows in the UK,.the US ConyBear/Bodygripper was not ;) They are both versitile tools,.but cannot be compared...Different strokes,etc,.. :11:

  8. THE THOUGHT WAS SPARKED BY A MATE OF MINE WHO WONT RUN WITH COLLARS SINCE HE SEEN A MATES LURCHER SNAG ON THE BOTTOM STRAND OF A BARB WIRE FENCE AND BREAK ITS NECK AND WAS KILLED INSTANTLY. WOULD BE ALOT OF WORK GONE AND ITS TREACHEROUS ENOUGH FOR A LURCHER.

That would have to be one unlucky lurcher,...my condolences to your mate.... :(

Used to run a team of seven dogs,..most nights of the week,..two weeks on and two weeks off,...some wore collars and some worked free,...never experienced any snags or hitches from the collar wearers :)

It COULD happen,..the choice is with the owner.... ;)

  9. HAVE ANY OF YOU EVER HAD A LURCHER KILLED OR BADLY INJURED BY RUNNING WITH A COLLAR ON. FOR EXAMPLE CATCHING ON WIRE, OR ON BRANCHES. JUST WONDERING. I THOUGHT I WOULD SEARCH AND RESTART THIS TOPIC RATHER THAN STARTING A NEW ONE. THERE SEEMS TO BE A CONCENSUS THAT THE COLLAR IS THE WAY TO GO AND ACCIDENTS ARE RARE. PREVIOUSLY I ALWAYS RAN WITHOUT AND JUST USED A SINGLE SLIP. I HAVE ONE OF THE SPRING CLIP TYPES WHICH ARE FINE FOR DAYTIME BUT AWKWARD FOR LAMPING. AND WOULD BE NO GOOD OUT ON MY OWN. IT WOULD BE GOOD TO HEAR A FEW VIEWS ON THIS .

    Er,.NO... :11: :11:

  10. someone mentioned him being highly intelligent. did you know that there is a very fine line between high intelligence/creativity and mental insanity? :11: :11:

LOCKE,..That kind of petulant comment cost me a TEN YEAR ban from most magazines :11: :11: :11:

Hopefully,.I'll play it differently this time around..... ;)

    All the best,...CHALKWARREN.... :)

  11. nice to see the smaller dogs, as mines only 20" and 15 mounths old and its her first season the only thing is shes not picking up very well she tends to pin them down, she retrives toys and skins fine will this change with time? and is this common with smaller dogs?

    last nights haul

    http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h250/bla...eandcatcgh1.jpg

A lot of dogs pin their rabbits down,...some get over it and carry back to hand,...and some don't :)

Nothing to do with the size of the dog,.... ;)

All the best,.and keep at it.... :clapper:

  12. Dont read em then :11: :11:

    :11: @ 'LOCKE'....

It has been a PROVEN fact in both the modern lurcher and to some extent,.the terrier world,..that no matter how much a producer of working dogs is ridiculed,.castigated or shown to be less than realistic in the appraisal of his 'product',...there will ALWAYS be guys that are attracted to such things. The written word is a very powerful tool and can certainly influence folk into believing even the most outrageous claims....

Personally,.I have always tried to help out newcomers to the game, especialy when their dogs are not coming up to scratch or following the predicted path to success. As hunting men, I think we owe them that.

Such 'debates' will always crop up. Argument is inevitable. Perhaps, some day , the real stories and true events that helped to create various names and faces within the lurcher world will be told... ;)

Whatever,... :D .....All the best to ALL crosses,.CHALKWARREN.... ;)
