Thanks guys I have sourced them now in big numbers time to bring them down on the 1st

Hi Guys does anyone know if the Canada geese are starting to congragate on the tay as yet? or tentsmuir. Cheers
-
Hi Mik yeah the reeds can be an awsome area depending on which part as they go for miles an area called tentsmuir can be really good or invergowrie bay is always good for greys. Kingston dyke has its good times on a low tide early season. But on the whole lots of good areas on the tay.

Hey mik some areas are shit hot get geese most times I go got some great areas for pinks and great area for greys. Plenty Canada's at the start of the season. Which areas have you shot on the tay mik?
-
Do you shoot the Tay Selvey? Indeed i do Mik from the mouth out at the sea end and back to the river end been doing so since i was 5 years old

Was out on the tay 1st of September by god the Canada geese got a rude awakening there was alot a boys out and a lot of barrels going off shooting started on the moon at 2.30am and shooting was still going on at 8am never seen soo many Canada geese on the tay ever. Great Flight tho ended up with 8 Canada geese and sore arms carrying them back to the Car lol. Went out to Tentsmuir on Wednesday the 12th and that was my first sighting of Pinks and they were piling in from a great height just couldnt get under them at all but great to be out and try will head back out tonight on the good winds

Hi All the 1st is nearly on us again does anyone know if the Canada geese are in at the Carse of invergowrie bay or up by the Kingston Dyke this year? there has been hundreds the last few seasons but you dont get long at them before they get wise.
-
Yeah the birds im getting down the tay valley are gd plenty meat on them they are a little daft tho just now flying stupidly low at times along the ground basically

Was out yesterday morning first time since the ban down at the tay at manorgan rock hides had 1 pinkfoot and 1 greylag hundreds of geese pinks and greys great flight. There was a batch of greylags crossed in front around 200yds out with a pour white goose in the batch great to see wasnt sure if he has been shot at before as he was trailing the main batch great to see though.
-
Excellent mate well done with them i would rather shoot 1 greylag or 1 pinkfoot on the foreshore than 10 geese at decoys foreshores the way for me love it.
-
Yeah he was at high risk at my neck of the woods i will certainly be looking for him next season that would be a picture to get him in the bag. Mj Robson how did Friday go mate last day?????
-
There was also a pure white goose in with a batch of greylags yesterday morning brilliant to see. was that a snowie (black wing tips), a bar headed (grey back) or a domestic? It was very unusual [bANNED TEXT] pure white size of a greylag aswell great to see.

Out at Invergowrie bay this morning hundreds of Greylags and pinks shot 3 Greylags only picked 2 brilliant way to end the season must say i missed the easiest ones right over me in the first light which would usually be easy right and left but never mind that how it goes great flight tho. Last Sat was also great had another pair then good times. my total is less than other years this year i usually shoot around 20 geese a season off the tay but only shot 8 greylags this year no pinks but had some really enjoyable flights.

Seen thousands of Geese heading South over the last two days absolutely thousands must not be able to get any feeding with the snow in Aberdeenshire so they are off in Search of grub down south.
-
Anyone know if there is going to be a call off for wildfowling with the hard weather it used to be if it was really cold for 10 consecutive days there was a ban any ideas or anyone heard anything?.
-
There is no mistaken these birds so the answer is dont shoot near them are at them or you could lose your guns and certificate.
-
Good going mate thats good numbers well done.
-
Yeah theres heaps of them mate but they dissapear before flight time how has the Eden been this year i havent had one trip there this year.
-
Alright selvey, hope we are talking about the same place here bud but i got a chance to shoot geese a month or so back on a pig farm called Vicarsford next to tensmuir forest. Anyway there were thousands there that day a mixture of pinks and greys but on a 100 acre field they weren't interested in the decoys. Managed to bag 1 for the day so wasn't a complete wash out. Yeah thats sounds like the place mate theres definately i piggery there well done on that mate its agd place to shoot

Don't you believe it! Yes Lucky Scalp does get covered with a big spring tide, especially with an easterly wind pushing it in. I was down there on the 12th and all that was showing was the founds for the old lighthouse, untill a big tanker went past with a 3' bow wave. And that was on a flat calm day. If your going to sit it out make sure you pick a suitable tide and check the forecast! Cheers, Mark. very good advice mark .. Thanks for that mate i have never ever seen that under water but thats gd to know for the future you would never think it with all that reeds
-
Hi Edenman the big sandy point that sticks out is a no shooting zone and when the tide comes in it basically covers the whole point. If you walk out towards the sandy point you will reach an old fence thats as far as you can go thats the boundry the best area i find is the small island half way out which the tide never covers this is called the lucky scalp and can only be accessed on a low tide hope this helps mate.
-
THATS WRITE AND LONG MAY IT CONTINUE. Scotlands shores rock, as long as you are below the high water mark on any ordinary spring tide you can go for it.I RECKON THAT THE DOWN SOUTHERS SHOULD HAVE TOO PAY WHEN THEY COME UP MIGHT DWINDLE THEM OUT A BIT AS THEY SPOOK THE GEESE UP WHERE I SHOOT.fOR EXAMPLE I WAS OUT TWO SATURDAYS AGO AND ALL THE GREYLAGS WERE TIGHT IN TO THE EDGE AND THESE PAIR OF GUYS START RIPPING REEDS OUT AND BUILDIND HIDES THEN AS USUAL THE GEESE FLY AWAY HAPPENS ALL THE TIME THEY NEVER LEARN WHATS THE DEAL WITH MAKING HIDES WHEN THERE IS SO MUCH COVER AROUND.ALSO

Not quite sure about digging ponds much myself but the recommended depths for mallard and teal feeding are no more than 9inches deep for Mallard and no more than 6inches for teal but that can just be around the edges shallower ponds always work very well.
