Hi Tyla, I know quite a few local hunters and none of them know anyone with lurchers. They gave me the idea of the Cretan Hound (Kritikos Ichnilatis). This dog is the oldest breed in Europe (4000years). They are quite scarce, mainly bred for show. Most of the hunters use the shoot and retrieve method but there is the odd one here and there who has the Cretan Hound. It's a bit Like the JRT situation, show strain and working strain. atb kriti Sounds like an interesting dog, do you have any pics? i take it they are a sight hound type? Perhaps you could arrange a cross using one of them as

runforyourlife.....flights for humans might be cheap but not for animals!!! Only certain airlines and certain airports with licensed anilmal holding areas can fly pets. I have just flown a puppy to spain from UK (£600) and one to houston £950, and one to autralia £2000. You cant get budget airlines flight for livestock I am afraid. if you can get a lurcher puppy young, then there is a cheaper option that a lot of airlines try not to tell you about, and that is taking them in the cabin as hand luggage. i cant recall the weight criteria now but i think its 8KG, and not all airlines do it, b

Thats for you mate, for a pup, in a traveling crate, in the cargo hold, its £600plus. I know that sounds ridiculous, but, like I said, you hold the aces, you win the game, and they hold all the aces. atb mate

How many of you would get a Lurcher from a rehoming centre?
kriti replied to Hollie's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
we must be talkin peddlars here then as why else would there be a problem if they'd had their kit removed? some people, if they have a good lurcher, like to keep the line, with the kit removed, no chance. -

Most rescue sites insist on neutering which puts alot of people off. I understand the reasoning behind this but it does mean that most will only go to pet homes and not working homes. -
Do'nt think it would be much cheaper. most of the cost is swallowed up in pet passport, anti rabies and flight. Flight alone is £600+ which is a rip off, but when you hold the aces, you win the game. Thank you for replying runforyourlife, it's nice to know that there's people out there who will try to help atb kriti

Good idea, send me a picture of one, what are they like character, jacket etc should imagine smooth coated.Pup all went to good homes 2went to cork 2 to antrim 2 county liex,1 wexford 2 to lurgan. Most of them have been in touch, nice to hear they are ok,should see alot of them at birr castle country fair this year. Heh!just looked them up on the net, would just be your job that. Hi Ann, how ya doin? Hope all the pups went to good homes. I'm thinking of getting a Cretan Hound pup, they cost 300-400 euro a pup, then find someone here with a greyhound and breed my own lurchers. With a bit of luck and a lot of planning I could be up and running in 3-4 years. atb kriti

will look into it,but probably same as rescue centres here, (spayed, neutered). thanks hollie

the rescues in crete do a great job, i live in sissi which is just down the road from malia and the animal shelter there does a great job, but, if you take a dog (or bitch) from there, it has to be neutered or spayed. i can't afford + won't pay the cost to get the lurcher i want from gb to crete, so i'm thinking, breed my own lurcher. it's a bit of a dream but without dreams, we would be left with reality or nightmares. i just need to no of anyone who has greys, beddies etc here on crete and my then my dreams have a chance. thanks for your reply l+l, atb kriti

Hi to all, i'm retired to Crete, have to do some work (part time) to get by. I do miss my dogs, thats 1 of the reasons a joined this site. there's no bunnies here, only big ears, so i thought, get a lurcher and do a bit of work/play. great idea, crap reality. to get a £150 pup from manchester airport to crete will cost min. £1200. if i win the lottery i still would'nt pay that. if any one know's any expats on crete who have greyhounds, beddies, whippets etc., ya know what i mean. Please let me know or let them know so they can get in touch with me, if they want to. thanks to all. kriti

I don't have much to say on here, may be cos a can't be bothered to slag people off. unless a can say to thier face. If some people are that bothered about pictures of bitches that have just had a litter of pups, maybe they would be better off on a R.S.P.C.A sight? -
pm sent mate

how old are the pups mate and are you able to kennel one for me for 4/5 weeks?

unfortunatly your are gona have disputes as not every one thinks or has the same views on things, things would be really boreing if we did . I agree with you Tallyho, a reasonable argument is fine but sometimes things get out of hand. We are all in this together so a bit of respect now and again would not go amiss

hello to one and all, i am a newbie. I am an expat living in Crete who bought a computer for the first time 3months ago. I live in an appartment but i am looking for a house with garden. When i find this i will be looking to bring a JRT over here and probably a Lurcher. I joined this site because of this and have no aims to slag people off or get into any disputes with any other members. Ido hope that loosing THL for a few days will bring some people to their senses and bring a bit of order and respectability back. Thank you all kriti.
