If your thinking about buying a bird for hunting rabbits then a Harris hawk would be a good bird. But what you need is a good knowledge of where to house them, what to feed them, how to train them, first aid and common ailments the list is endless. You won't get all this out of books but it will help. What you could do is join a club if one near you or find a mentor who will show you the ropes with some good advice. It isn't a cheap sport to get into and it isn't just the cost of the bird to take into consideration. There is the aviary, glove, bowperch, bath, swivels, leashes, jesses, bags or vest, tellem

Like previously mentioned all Plummer books are worth a read.He does tend to contradict himself a bit but there is no disputing he did keep and work his dogs which to me is what it is all about. He did say and write things to create a reaction and can imagine him sitting back and laughing after stirring something up. Regards

Many a good night spent in Scarisbrick!!!!!!! It wasn't about a good drink the cup it was all about the Coursing watching the Hares twist and turn and escape from the dogs.Ipersonally wanted every Hare to escape especially after a long hard course.BUT when the antis turned up how I badly wanted a kill{and usually wasn't dissapointed]I would jump up like a fan cheering a goal in FA cup final when a Hare was pulled down.As soon as they had gone back to normal cheering on the Hare.Back to drinking it wasn't about it but the coursing and drinking did go hand in hand. it was a little holiday to us

Any weedkiller containing Glphosate is ok to use on your allotment these are sold under names such as Roundup, clinic and Glyphos.Once it has been sprayed on and allowed to dry it is safe for pets onto the area, but personally i would leave it for 24 hours. The chemical biodegrades on contact with soil so can be planted on when weeds have gone.Only problem with these chemicals is that you may need a spraying certificate to purchase them or you could buy some off a friendly farmer. Hope this helps

Hi everybody Since the unnecessary ban about hunting with dogs came into place it hasn't really afected me.Apart from the mostimportant day in my fildsports calander. The Waterloo cup.Just wanted to know how every body else thought about it.I had attended the Waterloocup since I was 14 years old until it was banned so I have been to 25 waterloo cups. Some really memorable occasions good days coursing, good craic, drinking in southport, curry in southport, hangovers day after ,coursing day after on withens, seeing same characters year after year, having a laugh when antis turned up,having a bigger lau

I am not slagging anyone off who shoots Hares with airrifles it is down to everyones personal choice. And I would chose not to shoot an Hare with an airrifle.I much prefer that extra bit of insurance a winchester sub affords. The problem with shooting Hares with airrifles is not everyone takes the headshot. We feed Hare to our Hawks and on a few occasions have found lead pellets from air rifles in the ribs which have healed over leaving pellet imbedded.

People reading rentomski'e first reply might have thought he was being sharp with him.He wasn't it is just the realities of owning a bird of prey.Every question in that list needs to be answered fully for the sake of the birds welfare. Fare play to the man starting out at least he is seeking advice wellin advance and trying to sort out a mentor!

When we used to attend Waterloo cup in good old days after a course the dogs were rubbed down with a strong smelling rub.excuse the spelling but it was called curraco.

The fact that you are asking the flying weight of a Buzzard is a little worrying .As there is no set weight every bird is different. You need to find the flying weight by weighing it from day 1.man the bird and gradually lower its weight until it starts responding that is feeding off the glove jumping to the glove and then extending the distance flown on the creance line until it is responding instantly the full length of line.It will the be ready to fly free and that will be its flying weight at that moment in time. But as somebody previous stated that won't be its entering weight or killing we

Don't forget to put on your application as well as sound moderator you need to put down expanding ammunition.

You also want to get them out in garden under your feet and get used to your body over them ,if you don't when you try them in holes they are liable to skulk.Ferrets that are running out of your way aren't happy with your prescence and need more time spending with them taming them down.I think a full belly usually helps with taming[ferrets not mine LOL] Hope this helps

Why not phone your local Firearms licensing department and ask there advice most of them are fairly helpful and you will get a feel of what you may get granted.I shoot a 22 BRNO and although being a cheap rifle is extremally accurate and has accounted for thousands of rabbits.
